Conspiracy Theories Are Caused By Government Secrecy

The DC Circuit has ruled that the CIA is under no obligation to comply with Freedom of Information Act requests pertaining to its involvement with insurgent militias in Syria, overturning a lower court’s previous ruling in favor of a Buzzfeed News reporter seeking such documents.

As Sputnik‘s Morgan Artyukhina clearly outlines, this ruling comes despite the fact that mainstream news outlets have been reporting on the Central Intelligence Agency’s activities in Syria for years, and despite a US president having openly tweeted about those activities.

“In other words, the CIA will not be required to admit to actions it is widely reported as having done, much less divulge documents about them to the press for even greater scrutiny,” Artyukhina writes, calling to mind the Julian Assange quote “The overwhelming majority of information is classified to protect political security, not national security.”

A journalist and online researcher, Conger specializes in infiltrating and exposing the violent far right. Using dummy accounts and pseudonyms, she lurks in private chat rooms and invitation-only forums used by neo-Nazis, militias, Proud Boys, and other right-wing extremists. When she sees someone make threats or plan for violence, she screenshots the person’s messages, digs up the person’s real identity and employer, and publishes her findings on her Twitter account, @SocialistDogMom, where she has more than 110,000 followers.

COVID-19 relief bill embraced by Democrats will cause billions of dollars in cuts to critical programs such as Medicare

Under the Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2010, bills that add to the national debt cause automatic cuts to programs such as Medicare.

Federal aid programs for farmers, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Medicare, the Social Services Block Grant Program, and more would be subject to devastating cuts. 

Social Security and low-income programs such as food stamps would be exempt from cuts.

To prevent budget cuts, Democrats need to get 60 votes in the Senate, which would require the support of 10 Republicans. 

However, Democrats are planning to use a process known as budget reconciliation, which would allow them to pass the COVID-19 relief bill without 60 votes in the Senate. 

“The cuts would be huge,” said Paul Van de Water, a senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, told NBC. “It’s a critical issue, which, at some point, is going to have to be dealt with.”

Finally, the “very fine people” false accusation against Trump exposed

One of the most pervasive false narratives about President Trump is that he referred to white supremacists as “very fine people” after the Charlottesville, Virginia protests.

In fact, as demonstrated at the most recent Senate impeachment trial of Trump, his comments played in full show that Trump explicitly condemned Neo-Nazis, white nationalists and white supremacists. He also referred them as “rough, bad people.”

In response to a press question, Trump reiterates it again. (Notice that the press questions resemble those of a hostile mob.)

Nonetheless, many political figures, analysts and those in news media falsely continue to misrepresent the statement.

Leftist Guardian Writer Who Said ‘There Is No Cancel Culture’ Gets Canceled For Criticizing Israel

Robinson wrote about his canceling in an article titled, “How the Media Cracks Down on Critics of Israel“:
Personally, I had never thought about the question of whether I could suffer consequences for criticizing the government of Israel (and U.S. support for it). I have just about as much “free speech” as you can get in this world. Perhaps I should have thought about it more, though, because as soon as I crossed an invisible line, it was very quickly made clear to me. The moment I irritated defenders of Israel on social media, I was summarily fired from my job as a newspaper columnist.

I have been writing for the Guardian US since 2017, first as a contributor and then as a full columnist. I write almost exclusively about U.S. politics. I have never written about Israel. My editor has always been satisfied with my work, which is why I kept getting commissioned. I am good at putting out sharp, well-sourced, political commentary quickly, and needed little editing. (I only had a column spiked for content reasons once, as far as I can remember, which occurred when I criticized Joe Biden over Hunter Biden’s corrupt business ties.)
