Roswell’s biggest mystery might not be the UFO

Four University of New Mexico students are revisiting one of New Mexico’s most enduring mysteries, the notorious 1947 Roswell UFO Incident.

Not to determine whether aliens landed near Roswell, but to examine what the incident reveals about the law, government transparency and public trust.

UNM constitutional law/pre-law students Nicole Osborne, Caden Salazar, Tatiana James and Miguel Serna recently participated in an online panel discussing the Roswell incident through a legal lens, setting aside the long-running debate over whether the debris found approximately 75 miles northwest of Roswell was extraterrestrial.

That debate began in 1947, when something crashed onto William Ware “Mac” Brazel’s ranch near Corona.

Brazel reported the incident, and personnel from Roswell Army Air Field traveled to the ranch to retrieve the debris.

Soon afterward, the U.S. Army Air Force announced that it had “come into the possession of a flying saucer.”

Less than a day later, the military retracted the statement, saying the recovered object was a weather balloon.

The abrupt reversal fueled decades of speculation about a government cover-up.

“While there is this alien background to everything and a conspiracy background to everything, we’re also able to look at this incident from a legal lens and view the relationship between the people and their government and understand why it’s so applicable to our day-to-day life,” Osborne said.

The four UNM constitutional law/pre-law students are looking at it from a legal angle.

The panel stemmed from an assignment from their professor, Lawrence R. Jones, intended to help students apply constitutional knowledge to real-world scenarios.

“It’s not just about whether there were aliens or not, but there are a whole lot of other issues here on Earth that matter and should matter,” Jones said.

The panel was sponsored by the New Mexico State Library, the New Mexico Museum of Space History and the University of New Mexico Political Science Department.

Moderators asked the students several questions about the crash. They were asked background and summary questions and whether the government or military has the right to enforce a citizen’s silence on what they consider classified material.

Students discussed government secrecy, free speech, property rights, military authority and constitutional protections.

The panelists had been preparing since May and researching the Roswell crash before that.

“I actually invite the whole community to learn about the whole Roswell incident, because it just opens up opportunities for them to learn about their constitutional rights,” Serna said. “I think that one of the most important things that you have is your rights.”

Katherine Miles, bureau chief of the public services bureau at the New Mexico State Library, served as a mediator for the program.

“The Roswell incident has become a pop culture staple, fueling endless speculation about aliens and their intentions,” she said. “But in all the noise, we often lose sight of the human story at its core. These students, with their deep curiosity and insight, have brought that humanity back into focus. Their work reminds us to look at the everyday world around us with a wider, more thoughtful lens.”

Ancient ‘lost world’ discovered off the US West coast rewrites story of first Americans who arrived 13,000 years ago

A remote ‘lost world’ off California‘s coast could rewrite the story of the first Americans. 

Hidden among the Channel Islands are 13,000-year-old human remains, ancient settlements and evidence suggesting some of the continent’s earliest inhabitants may have arrived by boat rather than crossing an inland ice corridor. 

If correct, the theory would overturn decades of conventional thinking that the first Americans crossed a land bridge from Siberia and traveled south through an ice-free corridor in western Canada. 

Instead, it suggests Ice Age humans reached North America thousands of years ago by following a coastal ‘kelp highway,’ using boats to move along the Pacific shoreline and settle places like the Channel Islands. 

The islands have also yielded the bones of pygmy mammoths and remarkably preserved archaeological sites that offer an unprecedented glimpse into Ice Age life.  Scientists have described the chain of islands as a place where ancient landscapes and human history have been frozen in time. 

Researchers said the evidence points to a forgotten maritime migration that could fundamentally change our understanding of America’s earliest people. And they believe many of the answers may still be waiting to be uncovered. 

The Channel Islands have been studied by scientists and archaeologists for more than a century, with some of their most important discoveries, including the remains of Arlington Springs Man, emerging during excavations in the mid-20th century. 

Now, a new documentary released on June 30 on the YouTube channel Timeline is bringing fresh attention to these discoveries and the mysteries that still lie beneath the islands and surrounding waters.

Not all archaeologists agree that the Channel Islands provide definitive proof of a maritime migration. 

While many researchers now accept that people were present in the Americas before the Clovis culture, experts continue to debate exactly when the first settlers arrived and whether they traveled by sea, by land, or through a combination of routes. 

The eight California Channel Islands lie in the Pacific Ocean off Southern California, stretching from Point Conception near Santa Barbara to south of Los Angeles.

Author Frederic Caire Chiles, who has a PhD in history from the University of California at Santa Barbara, said in the film: ‘They are the trace of a vanished world.’

National Guard troops fatally shoot a man in downtown Memphis

Memphis police say National Guard troops fired their weapons in the early morning hours Sunday, killing a man who was armed with a handgun.

Police say officers were responding to calls of shots fired in downtown Memphis just before 4 am local time when they saw “an armed male carrying a handgun.” The man — identified by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson — fled on foot, pursued by Memphis police officers along with Tennessee National Guard soldiers who are assigned to the area.

What happened next was not immediately clear.

“For reasons under investigation, the situation escalated, resulting in two National Guard soldiers firing upon Johnson, striking and killing him,” according to a statement from the TBI. Memphis police said the man had “turned toward NG members with his weapon” before the National Guard soldiers fired their weapons and struck him.

Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene. No law enforcement officers were hurt in the incident, according to the TBI.

The TBI says it is investigating the incident at the request of Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy. TBI agents are “working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews,” the agency said.

The National Guard has been patrolling in Memphis since October of last year as part of a federal task force, established by President Trump, to combat crime in Memphis.

Cynthia Nixon’s wife gets $200k city gig after ‘Sex and the City’ star’s Mamdani endorsement

The Mamdani patronage machine has hired the wife of lefty actress Cynthia Nixon as an educrat making $203,500 a year, The Post has learned.

Christine Marinoni is working as the chief of mass engagement at the Family and Community Empowerment (FACE) office at the Department of Education, according to a well-placed DOE source.

The DOE source said this was Mamdani’s reward to the former “Sex and the City” star after she endorsed him during the mayoral primary.

Nixon held a fundraiser for Mamdani in March 2025 and raised over $200,000 for the socialist mayoral upstart.

“So thrilled to host a fundraiser for the incredible Zohran Mamdani whose clear message & ambitious plan for a more affordable NYC is exactly what we need right now,” she posted on Instagram at the time beside a picture of her and Mamdani standing together grinning ear to ear.

The hire is already drawing sharp comparisons to New York’s most notorious political machine.

“It’s painfully fitting that inside Tweed Courthouse, a DSA machine reminiscent of Tammany Hall is handing taxpayer-funded jobs to the well-connected spouses of multimillionaire celebrities,” another source, a City Hall insider, said.

When reached for comment, Nixon denied that her wife was rehired by the DOE for political reasons, and declined to speak further. Marinoni could not be reached for comment.

Marinoni previously worked as special assistant to the chancellor during the de Blasio administration and made $131,708, according to public data.

Spain instructs state-backed companies to avoid new Palantir contracts

Spain just told Palantir to pack its bags. Or at least, to stop unpacking new ones.

On July 1, the Spanish government issued a directive through SEPI, the state holding company that oversees the country’s publicly owned enterprises, instructing its portfolio companies to avoid entering new contracts with Palantir Technologies. The reason: concerns over classified national security information and what officials see as risks to national sovereignty.

The directive targets firms operating in defense, communications, and infrastructure. We’re talking about heavyweights like Telefónica, defense contractor Indra, and naval shipbuilder Navantia.

What’s actually happening

Here’s the thing: this isn’t technically a ban. It’s not legislation. It’s not even a formal regulation.

It’s more like a strongly worded internal memo with teeth. SEPI is directing the companies it controls to exercise “vigilance” regarding sensitive data, which in practice means no new Palantir contracts.

That distinction matters. Existing contracts remain intact, at least for now. Palantir’s most notable Spanish deal, a contract worth approximately €16.5 million with CIFAS (the Centro de Inteligencia de las Fuerzas Armadas, Spain’s military intelligence center), runs through November 2026. So the company isn’t getting kicked out mid-project. It’s just not being invited back.

The company, co-founded by Peter Thiel and led by CEO Alex Karp, has long positioned itself as the Western world’s answer to authoritarian surveillance tech.

Since Donald Trump has turned our nation’s 250th anniversary into a celebration of himself — complete with grift — let’s imagine a Fourth of July that might have been.

In this alternate history, the 2024 presidential election ended differently. Vice President Kamala Harris was elected the 47th president of the United States. Two years later, the nation is still marked by political polarization and economic uncertainty. On July 4, 2026, America celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Perhaps the most striking feature of this alternate 2026 is tonal. The central theme of Harris’ speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention was “Take Back the Flag,” a message she had touted since her days serving as a senator from California. Since her closing argument during that campaign emphasized “turning the page” on division, it’s safe to say that unity in the name of patriotism would be her paramount goal during the festivities.

It is absurd, right out of the gate. The piece talks about Harris ‘taking back the flag’ and patriotism at a time when poll after poll shows Democrats can’t even muster the pride to celebrate America’s 250th this year. Do they really think this would be any different with President Kamala? Please.

This part is especially funny:

Back in Washington, D.C., the atmosphere feels less like a presidential production and more like a national family reunion. Instead of the protective fortification of concrete barriers and razor wire, the National Mall is marked by a sprawling, deliberate openness.

Do they think no one remembers the Democrats putting up barriers all over Washington, DC after the 2020 election? It looked like Eastern Europe during the Cold War.

Good Grief. Politico Laughably Kvetches About America 250 Fireworks Pollution – Fears Americans Won’t Mask Up for Show!

Do you remember when the media pretended to love America and the Fourth of July?

Those days are long gone.

The far-left crew over at Politico decided that the America 250 celebration — a record-setting fireworks show over the nation’s capital — was the perfect moment to whine about the environment.

And they did it with a straight face.

The tell is right there in the first word of the headline: “Trump plans record fireworks show, internal docs warn of smoky skies.”

Trump.

That’s the whole story.

NewsBusters nailed exactly what this is really about:

Substitute the name of any Democrat president such as Clinton or Obama or Autopen and the silly story by the Politico troika of Alex Guillen, Miranda Willson, and Ariel Wittenberg would have been nonexistent. Yes, they just can’t allow President Donald Trump to enjoy along with thousands of spectators what they consider to be a triumphal moment without raining on the parade. TDS is just that powerful, especially at Politico.

Then comes the thin veneer of concern.

Here is how the Politico team framed it, as quoted by NewsBusters:

Scientists have well documented the soot and heavy metal pollution that can spike severely in the wake of pyrotechnic displays, and the world-record-setting number of fireworks lined up for July 4 will mean an equally large jump in pollution, according to experts and internal NPS documents reviewed by POLITICO.

Soot. Heavy metals. Smoky skies.

Over fireworks.

On the Fourth of July.

It gets better. According to the same report, Politico frets that no one is telling Americans to mask up before watching the show…

There are no indications that the administration plans to suggest masking or other personal protection for revelers viewing the fireworks from the nation’s front lawn. And the Environmental Protection Agency said tracking the air quality impacts of the fireworks isn’t their jurisdiction.

Mask up… for fireworks.

As NewsBusters put it, any government warning to mask up — after the useless Covid mask warnings — would be rightly ignored and/or laughed at.

And here’s the punchline the Politico kvetch-fest was forced to admit itself. The scary pollution doesn’t even stick around.

The good news is that the dirty air doesn’t linger too long. One study found that particulate matter from July Fourth fireworks remained elevated for about 24 hours across 315 different monitoring sites. On average, the fireworks displays increased pollution by 42 percent. But after a day,

About 24 hours. Then it’s gone.

So the crisis is over before the leftover hot dogs are.

Face it. This was never about the air.

It was about Trump celebrating America’s 250th, with hundreds of thousands of Americans cheering along the National Mall, and a media that simply cannot stand the sight of it.

‘Snake the Bigfoot Hunter’ claims he unearthed scientific proof of Sasquatch — and DNA shows it’s part human

A Bigfoot hunter who claimed to have found the legendary creature’s corpse now says he has scientific proof the remains are a real-life Sasquatch — and its DNA is part human.

Charles Stuart, who bills himself as “Snake the Bigfoot Hunter,” made highly disputed claims in 2024 that he found the decomposing remains of an 8-foot, 300-pound Sasquatch in upstate New York’s Adirondack mountains.

Now he claims he enlisted Cornell University to conduct a DNA test and found the creature is a mixture of Neanderthal and human, according to the hunter’s website. 

“After doing a DNA test — we found that this is 58.5% Neanderthal — and this 41.5% remaining, that is human,” Stuart told Local 4 Detroit on Sunday.

“What we have is a Neanderthal-human hybrid — and that neanderthal side that has been evolving over the millennia has remained very aggressive,” Stuart said about Dack, which is what he named the supposed corpse.

A former Democrat activist and Elizabeth Warren Presidential campaign volunteer attended the funeral of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and participated in propaganda interviews, wearing a hijab and traditional Muslim garb. 

Calla Walsh, in a documentary-style interview with Iranian state media, described herself as “a journalist, originally from the United States.” She told the propaganda outlet, “The US and Israel were mistaken in thinking that by assassinating the leader that they could overthrow the Islamic Republic. In fact, this aggressive move, this audacious move, has actually only had the opposite effect, and that the people are more determined than ever in favor of the revolution, in defending the Islamic Republic, in defending Iran’s sovereignty, and there is still continuity in the leadership of the revolution.

“he was a leader to all people of the world who struggle against imperialism, against arrogance, against Zionism, against genocide,” she said. “To me, he was the greatest anti-imperialist leader to have lived during my lifetime.”

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Iran began a weeklong funeral last weekend for Khamenei, months after an airstrike killed him at the start of the U.S.-Israeli war against the country.

Walsh, a 22-year-old social justice warrior-turned defector, started out as a youth leader in Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey’s 2020 reelection, volunteering with Senator Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 Presidential campaign, and championing progressive causes. Now, the former rising star in the Democratic Party is on a US government watchlist “for her expansive dealings with the governments of Cuba and Iran,” the Free Press reports.
