China faces draft dilemma as youth reject military conscription

As Beijing prepares for its grand September 3rd military parade, a pageant meant to project might across the Taiwan Strait, troubling cracks are appearing beneath the polished boots and synchronized salutes. A rising wave of defiance among China’s youth is testing not only the mettle of its armed forces but also the ideological grip of the Communist Party itself.

The announcement of the parade, made by the State Council Information Office on June 28th, was meant to remind the world of China’s growing military prowess. But just days later, that carefully curated image was shaken by a bold act of resistance. In early July, Chinese state media reported that a young man from Guilin had been severely punished for refusing compulsory military service after enlisting in March 2025.

A 2004-born college student nearing graduation reportedly struggled to adapt to the military’s rigid conditions and sought to withdraw from service multiple times. Authorities, however, responded with severe penalties—expelling him and imposing restrictions on employment, financial access, and overseas travel. He also faces a hefty fine of over ¥37,000, signalling zero tolerance for voluntary exit.

Recent conscription refusals in China appear far from isolated. A former legislative official now in exile claims over 200 similar cases occurred in Inner Mongolia alone, along with provinces like Shandong, Hubei, and Fujian recording widespread resistance. Analysts link this trend to a deeper disillusionment: a clash between rigid military expectations and a generation nurtured in comfort and digital independence, increasingly skeptical of the state’s legitimacy and unwilling to endure harsh regimentation for questionable nationalist aims.

What deters these young recruits is more than just the iron discipline. Whistleblowers reveal widespread corruption within the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) forged reports, sold positions, and power networks immune to accountability. For idealistic youth once drawn by patriotic fervour, the realization is sobering: they are entering not a dignified profession, but an institution hollowed out by greed and favouritism.

Is the Interstellar Object 3I/ATLAS Alien Technology?

Today I co-authored an intriguing new paper with the brilliant collaborators Adam Hibberd and Adam Crowl from the Initiative for Interstellar Studies in London, UK. The paper is accessible here.

One of the solutions to Enrico Fermi’s question about extraterrestrials: “where is everybody?” is offered by the dark forest hypothesis, popularized by Cixin Liu’s science fiction novel “The Dark Forest.” This hypothesis proposes that our cosmic neighborhood is dangerous, filled with intelligent civilizations that are hostile and silent to avoid detection by potential predators. In this context, the silence in searches for radio signals by the SETI community is not caused by the lack of extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations, but is instead a consequence of them fearing mutual destruction.

Our paper explores the possibility that the recently discovered interstellar object, 3I/ATLAS, may provide evidence in support of the dark forest hypothesis. This new interstellar interloper has displayed a number of anomalous characteristics, some of which were summarized in an essay that I wrote shortly after its discovery. In particular:

1. The retrograde orbital plane (defined by the orbital angular momentum vector) of 3I/ATLAS around the Sun lies within 5 degrees of that of Earth — the so-called ecliptic plane. The likelihood for that coincidence out of all random orientations is 0.2%.

2. As I showed in a recent paper, the brightness of 3I/ATLAS implies an object that is ~20 kilometers in diameter (for a typical albedo of ~5%), too large for an interstellar asteroid. We should have detected a million objects below the ~100-meters scale of the first reported interstellar object 1I/`Oumuamua for each ~20-kilometer object.

3. No spectral features of cometary gas are found in spectroscopic observations of 3I/ATLAS. The detected reddening of reflected sunlight could originate from the surface of the object. Related data can be found here and here. The fuzz observed around 3I/ATLAS (see images here, here and here) is inconclusive given the motion of the object and the inevitable smearing of its image over the exposure time.

4. For its orbital parameters, 3I/ATLAS is synchronized to approach unusually close to Venus (0.65au where 1au is the Earth-Sun separation), Mars (0.19au) and Jupiter (0.36au), with a cumulative probability of 0.005% relative to orbits with the same orbital parameters but a random arrival time.

5. 3I/ATLAS achieves perihelion on the opposite side of the Sun relative to Earth. This could be intentional to avoid detailed observations from Earth-based telescopes when the object is brightest or when gadgets are sent to Earth from that hidden vantage point. The retrograde trajectory at a perihelion speed of 68 kilometers per second, opposite to the direction of motion of the Earth around the Sun at 30 kilometers per second, makes the velocity difference between Earth and 3I/ATLAS 98 kilometers per second. It is therefore impractical for earthlings to land on 3I/ATLAS at closest approach by boarding chemical rockets, since our best rockets reach at most a third of that speed.

6. The optimal point for a reverse Solar Oberth maneuver to become bound to the Sun is at perihelion. In an Oberth maneuver, the thrust of a spacecraft is applied at its maximum orbital speed, namely at periapsis, so as to maximize the resulting change in kinetic energy. This applies both to accelerating to achieve Solar System escape, or alternatively to slow down from a high speed (a `reverse Oberth maneuver’) in order to break, stay bound to the Sun and potentially visit a planet like Earth. It is this optimal breaking point for 3I/ATLAS that is obscured from our view by the Sun.

7. The direction from where 3I/ATLAS is coming is oriented towards the bright Milky-Way center, where crowding by background stars made its detection difficult prior to July 2025. Figures 1 and 2 in our paper show that if astronomers were to detect 3I/ATLAS more than a year earlier, then we would have had an opportunity to launch a spacecraft that could have intercepted 3I/ATLAS along its path. By now, such an interception is not feasible with chemical rockets.

8. The velocity thrusts needed for launches of gadgets out of 3I/ATLAS to intercept Venus, Mars, or Jupiter are smaller than 5 kilometers per second, achievable by intercontinental ballistic missiles.

ENOUGH OF THE ABUSE! Michigan Attorney Sues AG Dana Nessel Over 2-Year “Lawfare” Nightmare Against Elderly Trump Electors

This afternoon, Michigan Attorney Kevin Kijewski, who is representing Cliff Frost, one of the 15 Republican alternate electors in the 2020 election, announced the filing of a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari with the United States Supreme Court in the case of Frost v. Nessel. The case against Michigan’s politically motivated Attorney General, Dana Nessel, challenges her two-year lawfare criminal case against her client and 14 other electors. In his lawsuit, Kijewski argues the lawsuit against the alternate electors “exemplifies the weaponization of government by current Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.”

In his press release today, Kijewski mentioned a video of Nessel who attended a private Zoom call with a leftist group that was released several months ago.

In the video below, Michigan AG Nessel told a far-left group that it’s challenging to get the electors to flip on each other because, “They legit believe that President Trump won the 2020 election.” The premise of her case against the 16 (mostly senior citizens) electors is that they knew President Trump was not the winner of the 2020 election, yet they cast their electoral votes for him anyhow. The truth is, the electors cast their votes for President Trump in Michigan and other hotly contested states because they needed to protect the electoral votes in the event that enough election fraud was proven to flip the states for Trump. Had they not cast the alternate slate of electoral votes, no votes from that state would have been given to Trump.

How to Stop Google’s Gemini AI from Accessing Your Apps

Google has initiated a broad Android update that enables its Gemini AI assistant to access third-party apps such as WhatsApp, even when users had previously set their devices to block such interactions.

This shift is taking place starting this week and appears to override individual privacy preferences, leaving many Android users without a clear path to opt-out.

According to ArsTechnica, in an email sent ahead of the rollout, Google linked to a support page that confirms “human reviewers (including service providers) read, annotate, and process” data accessed by Gemini.

The email fails to provide direct steps for those hoping to prevent the AI from integrating with their apps.

While it claims users can block specific app interactions, it also states that data will still be stored temporarily for 72 hours.

The message offers conflicting statements about user control. It says Gemini will begin integrating with services like WhatsApp, Phone, and Messages “whether your Gemini apps activity is on or off.”

Yet shortly after, it says, “If you have already turned these features off, they will remain off.” Nowhere in the email or the support pages does Google explain how users can fully remove Gemini from their devices or prevent it from being enabled in the background.

Keep in mind that WhatsApp is an end-to-end encrypted messaging and the app Gemini accesses it undermines that encryption.

OpenAI Unveils ‘Agent’ Feature That Can Control Your Computer and Perform Tasks Automatically

OpenAI is preparing to launch a new feature that may mark the latest leap forward in the artificial intelligence revolution.

On Thursday, the company unveiled ChatGPT Agent, a tool designed to carry out tasks independently using its own built-in “virtual computer.”

The Verge has more details:

In a briefing and demo with The Verge, Yash Kumar and Isa Fulford — product lead and research lead on ChatGPT Agent, respectively — said it’s powered by a new model that OpenAI developed specifically for the product.

The company said the new tool can perform tasks like looking at a user’s calendar to brief them on upcoming client meetings, planning and purchasing ingredients to make a family breakfast, and creating a slide deck based on its analysis of competing companies.

The model behind ChatGPT Agent, which has no specific name, was trained on complex tasks that require multiple tools — like a text browser, visual browser, and terminal where users can import their own data — via reinforcement learning, the same technique used for all of OpenAI’s reasoning models. OpenAI said that ChatGPT Agent combines the capabilities of both Operator and Deep Research, two of its existing AI tools.

To develop the new tool, the company combined the teams behind both Operator and Deep Research into one unified team. Kumar and Fulford told The Verge that the new team is made up of between 20 and 35 people across product and research.

Despite stiff competition from the likes of Google’s Gemini, Elon Musk’s Grok and China’s DeepSeek, OpenAI remains the most popular and advanced large language model currently on the market.

Backroom Politics and Big Tech Fuel Europe’s New Spy Push

A hastily arranged gathering within the European Union is reigniting fears over a renewed push for sweeping surveillance measures disguised as child protection.

Behind closed doors, a controversial “Chat Control” meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, has raised alarms among digital rights advocates who see it as a thinly veiled attempt to subvert the European Parliament’s current stance, which expressly prohibits the monitoring of encrypted communications.

Despite no formal negotiations underway between the Parliament, Commission, and Council, Javier Zarzalejos, the rapporteur for the regulation and chair of the Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE), has chosen to hold what is being described as a “shadow meeting.”

Notably, this comes over a year after the Parliament reached a compromise aimed at defending fundamental rights by shielding private, encrypted exchanges from warrantless surveillance.

The meeting’s guest list, obtained by netzpolitik.org, painted a lopsided picture.

Government and law enforcement figures from Denmark, including its Justice Ministry, which has put forward an even stricter proposal, are slated to attend, alongside Europol, representatives from Meta and Microsoft, and several pro-surveillance NGOs like ECPAT.

Also expected is Hany Farid, a US academic affiliated with the Counter Extremism Project, an organization known for its close relationships with intelligence agencies.

What was missing from the invitation list until late Monday was any representation from civil liberties groups or organizations that have consistently pushed back against warrantless monitoring.

NPR CEO Lies About ‘Real Risk to Public Safety’ with Taxpayer Funding Cut

NPR CEO and welfare queen Katherine Maher has come up with a brand-new lie to protect her taxpayer-funded slush fund to spread left-wing lies. Get a load of the latest from this shameless broad…

“Public media, public radio, public television, are a critical part of the emergency response plans of nearly half of the states in this nation,” Maher told the far-left CBS News, which just settled an election interference lawsuit with President Trump.

She added, “If these types of emergency alerting go away, you will have fewer outlets to be able to respond in real time” to natural disasters.

Earlier this week, America’s favorite welfare queen laughably claimed there’s no left-wing bias on NPR.

You know why Maher’s been reduced to this kind of desperate lying? Because in a world where Trump, the GOP, and New Media no longer play by the regime media’s rules, she’s got nothing else.

You see, we can no longer be emotionally blackmailed. We no longer play by the fake rules of debate created by the left to stop us from expressing the truth. And all this bullshit about killing Big Bird is debunked as quickly as it’s launched.

So what is Maher reduced to? Laughably, claiming NPR is not biased in favor of the left…

Bias? What bias? Oh, you mean this bias…

The Telegraph alters headline to note that the harms caused by covid injections have been catastrophic

On Sunday, The Telegraph published an article describing their interview with Dr. Aseem Malhotra. By Tuesday, the paper had changed its headline to highlight Dr. Malhotra’s statement that the covid vaccines had caused catastrophic harms. This could be an indication that the noose controlling the “safe and effective” narrative is loosening further.

As well as the newly appointed chief medical adviser to the US’s MAHA Institute, Dr. Malhotra is a consultant at the HUM2N longevity clinic, which offers biohacking services.

On Tuesday, Dr. Aseem Malhotra alerted the public to a change in one of The Telegraph’s headlines to read: ‘Aseem Malhotra: ”The harm caused by covid vaccine has been catastrophic”’.

We couldn’t establish when the headline was changed because The Telegraph only shows an uploaded date and time for their articles and not a “last edited” date and time.  However, below are screenshots of the two headlines that were archived on 13 July (the day the article was published) and 15 July.

Netherlands: 517 people died by euthanasia without request in 2021

The Netherlands has had a problem with euthanasia without request (LAWER) and the under-reporting of euthanasia since the inception of its euthanasia law.

Every five years, the Netherlands government has commissioned a study to determine the number of deaths by medical and end-of-life decisions. The study is done by researchers who send questionnaires to physicians to determine how a random person died within a given year.

The questions seek to determine the number of deaths from all causes, including euthanasia, assisted suicide, and ending of life without explicit request. The questionnaires allow the physician to respond anonymously, and the data effectively uncovers the actual number of assisted deaths within a given year.

The Netherlands 2021 study (one year later than usual) found that there were 9,799 assisted deaths representing 9,038 euthanasia deaths, 245 assisted suicide deaths, and 517 ending of life without explicit request (LAWER).

LAWER involves the intentional ending of a person without an explicit request. I oppose euthanasia and assisted suicide but I recognize that killing someone without request or consent remains a criminal homicide in nearly every jurisdictions, even when it is tolerated.

The 2021 study indicated that there were 517 LAWER deaths in the Netherlands representing approximately 0.3 percent of all deaths.

It is important to note that six of the deaths were newborns, also known as infanticide, who would have been killed based on the Groningen protocol. Newborns with disabilities can be injected with lethal drugs in the Netherlands when a parent and doctor agree that the prospects for the child are poor or the child is considered “incompatible with life.”

As stated, the Netherlands government commissions a study every five years. The 2015 study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) in an article titled: End-of-Life Decisions in the Netherlands over 25 years. The researchers published the 2015 study as a comparison to the previous studies.

The data from the 2015 study indicated that there were 7,254 assisted deaths representing 6,672 euthanasia deaths, 150 assisted suicide deaths, 431 ending of life without explicit request.

Revealed: Child exploitation and bestiality material allegedly found on former Deputy Police Commissioner Jevon McSkimming’s work devices

Child exploitation and bestiality material were allegedly found on former Deputy Police Commissioner Jevon McSkimming’s work devices, it can now be revealed.

The revelation comes after a High Court judge dismissed an application to prevent media reporting the nature of the alleged objectionable material.

McSkimming resigned as the country’s second most powerful cop in May amid separate investigations by the Independent Police Conduct Authority and police.

His resignation came a week after RNZ approached him, via his lawyer, with allegations about material found on his work devices.

RNZ earlier revealed pornography found on McSkimming’s work devices was being investigated as alleged objectionable material.

His lawyer Linda Clark was then granted a rare “superinjunction” by Justice Karen Grau that prohibited reporting that disclosed the nature of the allegedly objectionable material, as well as the existence of the injunction itself.

Following a teleconference held by Justice Gwyn, the order prohibiting publication of the nature of the allegedly objectionable material was continued – but the order prohibiting the existence of the injunction was not continued, meaning RNZ could report the fact of McSkimming’s application and the interim result.
