The unprovoked US-Israeli war against Iran launched on 28 February had “been planned for months, and the launch date decided weeks ago,” even as the US and Iran carried out indirect nuclear negotiations, an Israeli defense official told Reuters.
Washington and Tel Aviv renewed negotiations in February over Iran’s nuclear program. President Trump was under pressure from Israel force Iran to give up uranium enrichment, as well as its ballistic missile program and support for regional resistance forces.
Amid the negotiations, Trump sent an “armada” of US naval ships and warplanes to the region, threatening to launch an attack if officials in Tehran refused to make a deal.
After the latest round of talks on Thursday, a senior US official told Axios the talks were “positive.”
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who mediated the talks, said the talks had shown “significant progress.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also expressed optimism, saying both sides had shown a “clear seriousness” about getting a deal.
However, the US and Israel launched large-scale attacks against Iranian targets early Saturday, suggesting the negotiations had never been serious.
In the wake of the attacks, Omani Foreign Minister Albusaidi said that the negotiations he mediated had been “deliberately undermined.”
Mehran Kamrava, director of the Iranian studies unit at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies and professor at Georgetown University in Qatar, stated that Israel “appears to have launched an attack designed to derail the negotiations.”
Once again, America is going to war for Israel. Once again, many will die for the Zionist state, including American service members. Once again, we will stumble blindly into a military fiasco. Once again, we will do the bidding of a foreign power whose interests are not our interests, but whose lobbyists have bought up our political class, including Donald Trump. Once again, we will violate the U.N. charter by attacking a country that does not pose an imminent threat.
This is not our war. This is part of Israel’s demented vision of Greater Israel, of dominating the Middle East. But Israel needs our military, our taxpayer dollars, our weapons to do it. And we have handed them the keys to our formidable arsenal.
The architects of the war with Iran, which the administration feels no need to justify to the American public or the international community, admit it will not be quick.
Sen. Tom Cotton, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told CBS News on Saturday that the goal is not only to curb Iran’s nuclear program, but “dismantle their terror support network.”
“To do all that is going to take longer than the strikes on their nuclear program last summer,” Cotton said. “We’re probably looking at weeks, not days, of joint efforts by the United States, Israel and our Arab partners, who have also been attacked this morning.”
Israel’s lackeys in the political class, along with their courtiers in the media, including former American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) employee Wolf Blitzer, as well as academia, are shining examples of Israel’s transparent and often illegal meddling in the American political system. Forget Russia. Forget China. No foreign government comes close to exerting Israel’s influence.
Democratic Party leaders are not opposed to attacking Iran — they are opposed to attacking Iran without being consulted. Two dozen Democrats lept to their feet and applauded every time Trump threatened Iran, or lauded Israel, in his State of the Union address. The Biden administration and Democratic Party leadership made no effort to reinstate Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear agreement. It focused instead on sustaining the genocide in Gaza. It cheered Israel’s decapitation of Iranian proxies in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen. Kamala Harris in her feckless and tone deaf presidential campaign promised to continue funding the genocide, which alienated many voters, and labeled Iran our most dangerous enemy.
Endless war is a bipartisan project.
Republican Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee appeared on NewsNation tonight and provided a reminder for all of the Democrats who are suddenly claiming that Trump can’t act on Iran without congressional approval.
Burchett points out that Obama bombed eight different countries without congressional approval.
Democrats think no one remembers anything. When Obama was president, he could pretty much do anything he wanted with zero pushback from his party or the media. He could do no wrong in their eyes.
Partial transcript via Overton News:
BURCHETT: “President Obama bombed 8 countries without Congressional approval.”
“So I think it’s a little disingenuous for the Democrats start saying this is unprecedented and you’ve got the most stable regime, outside of probably the Chinese, in the whole right now.”
“And they’ve killed Americans within recent memory.”
“Is this the revenge tour? Maybe be a little bit. But you poke the bear you get it.”
“Or you poke the bull, you get the horns and the horns.”
“And the horns right now are Donald J. Trump.”
“And he’s letting an enemy of this country know how we feel about them.”
A newly uncovered photo from the Epstein files revealed a shocking home surgery appearing to show a woman getting stitches on his dining room table, as the disgraced financier’s ties to the medical industry are exposed.
Millions of documents tied to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, released by the Department of Justice, are beginning to show how entrenched the famed figure was in high society.
Epstein was arrested in 2019 on federal sex trafficking charges before he died by suicide in prison, but evidence of his abuse dates back decades.
Information on his large-scale scheme has slowly come to light since the DOJ released millions of files related to the disgraced financier, including several loyal medical specialists who allegedly brushed his wrongdoings under the rug.
Emails released by the DOJ and first reported by the New York Times revealed that Dr Eva Dubin, former Miss Sweden and founder of the Dubin Breast Center at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City had frequent correspondence with Epstein.
In one particularly shocking exchange, Epstein told Dubin that he was flying to New York with a Russian female student, whose name was redacted in the files, after she fell off an ATV on his private island in the US Virgin Islands.
In an email to Dubin dated October 6, 2012, Epstein wrote: ‘I am flying to ny will land at 630… [redacted] fell off the ATV and needs stitches in her forehead and an x-ray to ensure no concussion… can you organize thanks will call later or try my cell.’
Dubin responded that top plastic surgeon Jess Ting was ‘standing by’ and told Epstein to call her when they landed so she could go with them.
The next day, Epstein sent another email to his assistant, instructing her to purchase large first-aid kits and asking for a defibrillator.
‘[Redacted] had a bad accident on the island. dr ting put 35 stitches in her head, laid out on the dining room table,’ the email continued.
A photo in the files showed a woman lying down, apparently undergoing a medical procedure. Her face was blocked by towels, and the faces of the three other individuals in the picture were redacted.
A person in a checkered shirt who looked like a man was seen sitting near the woman while two other women stood over them, and one held a lamp over the alleged procedure.
The New York Times also found several other emails included in the files between Dr Ting and Epstein.
One of the emails revealed correspondence about Ting’s family taking a trip to Epstein’s island. Another email, months later, revealed that Epstein agreed to donate $50,000 to breast cancer research.
Ting denied any wrongdoing and said he was not in the photo of the alleged home procedure. He added that he never witnessed any criminal activity from Epstein.
Jonathan Capehart of MSNOW appeared on PBS this weekend and claimed, with a straight face, that the media is necessarily liberal.
He was taking part in a discussion about the imminent takeover of CNN by Paramount and was defending CNN’s coverage.
As proof of his claim about the media, he admitted that FOX News, which leans right, is the most-watched cable news network. He failed to point out that FOX is the only right-leaning network in a media sea of progressive spin.
NewsBusters reports:
Reverting to his first instinct, Brooks conceded that new CBS News chief Bari Weiss’s intention to shake things up is not unreasonable, “And I’m a guy who—I don’t know Bari Weiss particularly, but I support what they’re trying to do. I think it’s time to mix up the media. That we got a little too progressive, a little too elite, and if Bari Weiss can change the mind-set, all power to her.”
Flip-flopping again, Brooks lamented, “But if this is being done for lobbying and business, which it sure looks like it is, then that’s the real deterioration in the business we’re in.”
Even that centrist position was too much for Capehart, “Well, I would argue that the media isn’t necessarily liberal, when you look at the fact that the number one cable channel and the number one viewing channel is Fox News Channel.”
Proving that he hasn’t watched CBS since the Weiss takeover, Capehart continued, “This idea that there are liberals out there running around through the media indoctrinating people and changing—you know, setting the narrative, I just think is wrong. I think bringing a Fox-like mentality and demeanor to CBS News and potentially to CNN, I think in the end makes the American people worse off.”
He also added, “Our job as journalists, and I’m speaking specifically of CNN in this case in this deal. Folks turn to CNN for news. They turn to them for just what is happening in the country. And if what’s happening at CBS is bound—could happen at CNN, then our country and our profession will be in worse shape.”
The secret conclave that elected Pope Leo head of the Catholic Church in May 2025 was interrupted when one of the 133 cardinals involved was found carrying a cellphone, a massive security breach, a book released on March 1 revealed.
As the clerics were preparing to take their first vote inside the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, which was fitted with jamming equipment to prevent outside communications, security officials picked up the signal of an active mobile connection.
The cardinals stared at each other incredulously, then one of the older clerics discovered he had a phone in his pocket and handed it over, according to The Election of Pope Leo XIV, a new book by two long-time Vatican correspondents.
The book does not name the cardinal or suggest he had any motive for keeping his phone, saying the moment left him “disoriented and distressed”.
The scene was “unimaginable even for a film and never before seen in the history of modern conclaves”, wrote authors Gerard O’Connell and Elisabetta Pique.
One such film, the 2024 hit Conclave, imagined a tangled web of intrigues during the fictional selection of a pontiff. The unprecedented discovery of a phone in 2025 was in its own way more startling than anything portrayed in that movie, O’Connell told Reuters. “Reality (was) better than fiction,” he said.
Clerics taking part in a conclave take a vow not to communicate with the outside world and surrender their phones and all other communication devices for the duration of the proceedings, which can last for days.
Iraq’s Coordination Framework is still putting forward Nouri al-Maliki as its candidate for prime minister, despite President Trump loudly and repeatedly demand he be withdrawn. The US had reportedly set a deadline of Friday, February 27, to end the candidacy or face unspecified repercussions. What happens next, after the US has attacked Tehran, is anyone’s guess.
If that sounds familiar, it’s because the US had similarly set a “final deadline” for Maliki’s withdrawal last weekend, though that deadline passed with little visible consequence and just more US complaining about Maliki.
With just 24 hours left, the latest deadline doesn’t seem like it’s going to change anything either, with the Framework saying they don’t intend to allow the US to decide who gets to be Iraq’s prime minister.
Furthermore, the indication is that they don’t even intend to hold another meeting on the premiership until next week, well after this deadline will have already passed.
There does not appear to be any other serious candidate being put forward by any part of the Framework, which is the largest bloc in Iraq’s deeply divided parliament.
Maliki served as Prime Minister of Iraq from 2006 through 2014. President Trump has insisted he has “insane policies and ideologies” and cannot be allowed to return to office, though again there are no other serious candidates within the Framework who have come forward to replace him with.
Maliki has sought to return to office for years and though his State of Law Party only won about 6% of the seats in last year’s election, he has the support of Kurdish factions, and the largest party within the Framework, that of current Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, has appeared to accept Maliki’s candidacy after Sudani said he doesn’t intend to serve another term.
It’s a recurring theme in Iraq that after their elections forming a coalition government takes quite some time and a lot of negotiation.
An unofficial Columbia University student group, the pro-Palestinian ‘Columbia University Apartheid Divest’ posted “marg bar amrika,” the Islamist Iranian regime chant that means, “death to America,” to X Saturday in response to the killing of Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ale Khamenei in joint U.S.-Israeli air strikes.
Via Wikipedia: “Death to America (Persian: مرگ بر آمریکا Marg bar Amrika) is an anti-American political slogan and chant which has been in use in Iran since the inception of the Islamic Revolution in 1978. Ayatollah Khomeini, the first leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, popularized the term. In most official Iranian translations, the phrase is translated into English as the less offensive “Down with America.” The chant “Death to America” has come to be employed by Islamists, anti-imperialists, and decolonisation movements worldwide. Great Satan is another closely linked propaganda phrase.”
The group later posted that X made them take the post down, but that it stood by the thought, “X forced us to delete our “marg bar amrika” tweet in order to gain back access to our account but the sentiment still stands”
The DOE released a Notice of Funding Opportunity offering up to $171.5 million for next-generation geothermal field tests and resource exploration.
The program targets field-scale demonstrations of enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) for electricity generation, along with drilling to characterize and confirm hydrothermal and next-gen prospects nationwide.
The funding splits into two initial open topics: up to $100 million for EGS field tests and $71.5 million for exploratory drilling. Letters of intent are due March 27, with full applications due April 30. The move directly supports President Trump’s Executive Order “Unleashing American Energy,” according to the agency.
Geothermal currently supplies roughly 4 GW of U.S. capacity, but represents only about 0.3% of total power generation. DOE estimates the resource base could support 300 GW or more by 2050 with technology improvements, delivering firm, 24/7 baseload power that complements intermittent renewables and meets rising demand from data centers and AI infrastructure.
Recent studies show that some of the best locations in the United States for new geothermal sites are in the western part of the country and some of the southern states.
