NYC Expands Use Of Drones To Respond To Crimes

The New York Police Department has launched a new program that will send drones zipping to emergency scenes before officers can get there.

Two drones will be stationed at each of five NYPD station houses, including the one that oversees the 843 acres of Manhattan’s iconic Central Park. Three precincts in Brooklyn and one in the Bronx will also be getting the drones as part of the “Drone as First Responder” initiative.

“New York City is flying into the future as we keep New Yorkers safe,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement Wednesday. “These drones will mean more efficient policing and will help increase the safety of our responding NYPD officers and New Yorkers.”

The drones will be deployed remotely and programmed to autonomously fly to the exact longitude and latitude of emergencies, including missing-person searches, alerts from the NYPD’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system and crimes in progress, according to the mayor’s office.

Once a drone arrives at the scene, an NYPD drone pilot at police headquarters in Lower Manhattan or another location will take control of the device. High-resolution cameras equipped with night vision technology and high-definition audio microphones will allow pilots to assess situations and send live feeds to the smartphones of officers and supervisors on the ground.

MSNBC Blasted For Article Sympathizing With Laken Riley’s Murderer: ‘These People Are Sick’

MSNBC is facing significant backlash yet again after publishing a sympathetic opinion piece on Jose Ibarra, the illegal immigrant who brutally murdered 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley in February.

The title of the article originally was “Laken Riley’s killer never stood a chance,” before the outlet edited the headline to “The guilt of Laken Riley’s killer was never in doubt.”

In a few excerpts of the article, MSNBC columnist Danny Cevallos wrote many troubling lines that stood out, in addition to his original title.

“Saving the judge from a pointless jury trial might have been Ibarra’s best chance at life with the possibility of parole… in Ibarra’s case, the judge cut him no breaks — jury or no jury.”

Or maybe his line that reads: “Sometimes defense counsel just gets handed a truly awful, unwinnable case.”

Soon after, journalist Kyle Becker posted on X, highlighting the distasteful and morally bankrupt opinion piece.

“MSNBC got *CAUGHT* trying to defend Laken Riley’s illegal alien murderer. Now, it has backtracked and changed its headline. Too late. We see you, MSNBC. We know this is who you are,” posted Becker on X.

The MSNBC article was released after a judge sentenced Ibarra to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Seattle finally starts throwing shoplifters and other petty criminals in jail for the first time in 4 years

Seattle has finally started tossing people in jail for low-level crimes again after four years of letting shoplifters, vandals and other petty criminals walk free.

The change, which went into effect earlier this month, reverses pandemic-era restrictions by King County that kept Seattle police from booking all but the most serious misdemeanors into the slammer.

Officials in the Emerald City argued the policy hamstrung prosecutors and cops.

But now Seattle’s ne’re-do-wells will face a jail cell if they flaunt the law.

The move is a win for local law enforcement, which has long pushed for more tools to fight a four-year crime wave that has continued since the pandemic — despite crime in nearly every other major city declining, an analysis by the Seattle Times showed.

“We’ve had people tell us, ‘You can’t arrest me for that.’ Well, that was true but now we can. We’re hoping to get a little bit of accountability back,” the Times quoted Deputy Police Chief Eric Barden as saying.

The booking restrictions began in 2020, when King County Jail — which contracts with Seattle — slashed its capacity for social distancing reasons.

After that, the county cited staffing issues for the ongoing restrictions.

Woman Accused of Murdering Dad With Ice Ax Over Election Married to Transgender Author, MSNBC, CNN, Daily Beast Contributor

New details have emerged concerning a Seattle woman’s suspected murder of her father on Election Night, including a clearer picture of how the killing unfolded and revelations about the woman and her prominent transgender author partner.

According to The Daily Mail, Corey Burke, 33, who police claim killed her 67-year-old father Timothy Burke with an ice ax in their $800,000 home last Tuesday after a disagreement over house lights, was a “power lesbian” who worked as a training program manager for Jeff Bezos’ space exploration company Blue Origin.

The Mail has more grisly details behind the murder, to which Burke reportedly confessed:

After emerging from the house with blood ‘dripping’ down her face, she confessed to police that she ‘freaked out,’ claiming there was ‘something important about Election Day.’

Burke reportedly told detectives that ‘she knew that she could not convince her father to keep the lights off’, so went upstairs and retrieved the murder weapon.

She then tripped her father and strangled him before attacking him with the ice axe.

Burke then bit him and hit him several times in the head and side with the blunt and sharp ends of the ice axe, cops say.  His body was found in the basement.

Burke claimed she knew the killing ‘needed to happen today,’ according to a police report.

She allegedly told police she had to bite her father while choking him because ‘he was too strong.’ Burke added that she felt better once her father ‘went limp.’

Burke also told police that as her father labored to breathe after the attack, ‘the defendant sat next to him until he stopped breathing.’

The Mail reports the day after the murder Burke whispered, “I killed him,” to an officer and that she’d described killing her father “was really hard, really fu****g hard,” adding “there were points where she felt she wasn’t going to be able to.”

She also mentioned something about wanting to help people “change their attachment to their parents.”

Minnesota dad who ranted against Trump election gunned down wife, ex-girlfriend and his 2 kids in murder-suicide

A Minnesota dad who ranted against President-elect Donald Trump online shot and killed his wife, ex-partner, and his two sons before turning the gun on himself, according to authorities.

The shooter, 46-year-old Anthony Nephew, had a “pattern of mental health issues,” Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa said on Friday — one day after authorities found five people dead inside two homes in the city.

Authorities found Anthony Nephew’s ex-partner Erin Abramson, 47, and their son, Jacob Nephew, 15, dead from apparent gunshot wounds inside their home Thursday afternoon, police said.

After identifying Anthony Nephew as a suspect, police found his 45-year-old wife, Kathryn Nephew, and their 7-year-old son, Oliver Nephew, dead from gunshot wounds inside their family home close by.

Anthony Nephew was also found dead inside the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

Before his rampage, Anthony Nephew had been sharing left-wing and anti-Trump posts on his Facebook account.

“My mental health and the world can no longer peacefully coexist, and a lot of the reason is religion,” Anthony Nephew wrote in July.

“I am terrified of religious zealots inflicting their misguided beliefs on me and my family. I have intrusive thoughts of being burned at the stake as a witch, or crucified on a burning cross.

“Having people actually believe that I or my child are Satan or, the anti-Christ or whatever their favorite color of boogie man they are afraid are this week.”

Multiple Mississippi elected officials indicted in federal bribery investigation

Several top elected officials in Mississippi’s most populous county are now defendants in a federal bribery probe.

HuffPost reporter Sam Levine tweeted an announcement from the Department of Justice, stating that an indictment was unsealed in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Mississippi in which three high-profile officials have officially been charged with “participating in a bribery scheme to enrich themselves.”

According to the indictment, Jackson, Mississippi Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba, Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens and Jackson city council member (and former council president) Aaron Banks are all named as defendants. Mayor Lumumba confirmed his indictment to local NBC affiliate WLBT on Wednesday.

The indictment alleges that Jackson’s mayor, the district attorney in Jackson and members of Jackson’s city council conspired to accept bribes in exchange for official acts benefiting purported real estate developers,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri, who heads the DOJ’s Criminal Division.

“Officials who abuse their positions of authority to enrich themselves undermine public confidence in government. The Justice Department is committed to restoring that confidence by working with its law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute public corruption.”

Kamala Harris Refuses to Answer Reporter on How She Voted on California’s Proposition 36 “It’s the Sunday Before the Election”

In full defensive mode, Kamala Harris refused to answer a reporter’s question when pressed on how she voted on California’s Proposition 36.

Prop. 36 is one of the most significant issues on the ballot for the citizens of California, yet Harris, a presidential candidate who is asking Americans to trust her leadership,is hiding her position on how crime should be tackled.

Prop. 36 rolls back some of the soft-on-crime policies that California voters passed in 2014 with Prop. 47.

Per LA Public Press, Prop 47 “scaled back punishments for certain nonviolent offenses for drugs and theft, which were reclassified from felonies to misdemeanors.”

Under the proposed Prop. 36, penalties would be increased and sentences lengthened for drug possession and for the theft of items valued at less than $950.

Reporter: How did you vote on Prop 36?

Kamala Harris: My ballot is on its way to California, and I’m going to trust the system that it will arrive there.

I am not going to talk about the vote on that because, honestly, it’s the Sunday before the election, and I don’t intend to create an endorsement one way or another around it.

But I did vote.

She doesn’t want to “create an endorsement” around a major issue that is impacting Americans?
