AOC puts on mask for picture, removes it afterward, video shows
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., masked up for a photo op with activists on the steps of the U.S. Capitol — but only for the picture, a viral video shows.
Ocasio-Cortez dropped her coronavirus mask after the snap Monday, when she posed with protesters in support of a new eviction moratorium. She was joined by fellow progressive Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass.
The congresswoman was maskless while sitting on the steps before the photo, but donned her gray mask before Markey sat down and the picture was snapped.
“Housing is a human right,” the group said as the picture was taken, with someone after the photo saying “Everybody say ‘whiskey.’”
Markey pulled down his face mask almost immediately after the photo was taken as he chuckled at the “whiskey” joke.
Ocasio-Cortez soon followed suit, ditching her mask entirely a mere minute after the photo was taken, according to Breitbart, which posted the video to Twitter.
The Politics of Spectacle: On Eviction Moratorium, The Squad Talks the Walk
Members of Congress departed for a seven-week vacation at the same time that the Center for Disease Control’s (CDC) national eviction moratorium expired on July 31. The Squad, a subset of members of the House of Representatives who espouse Bernie Sanders’ policy agenda, gathered at the Capitol building to demand that Congress come back to work and hold a vote to renew the moratorium. Cori Bush, Jamal Bowman, and other Squad members slept on the Capitol steps overnight as part of the ongoing protest. Critics on social media pointed out that the rally was too little, too late while others remarked that the low attendance of the rally, comprised mainly of political surrogates, rendered the action nothing more than a photo opportunity for the Squad.
Founder of Black Agenda Report (BAR) Glen Ford died three days before the protest. Ford strongly opposed the politics of diversity, which privilege political representation over substantive policy demands and the popular power required to achieve them. He closely monitored the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to demonstrate that voting for elected officials who look and behave like their constituents does not necessarily equate to representation. Ford led BAR’s effort to expose how the CBC, for example, voted in large majorities to militarize U.S. police departments and enshrine their officers with protected class status under federal hate-crime legislation.
The Squad rose to prominence following Barack Obama’s two-term presidency. Obama represented the pinnacle of diversity. Obama was famously touted as a victory in the long, hard struggle of Black Americans for human rights, yet his administration greatly expanded the theater of the U.S. war machine and enacted a broad policy agenda friendly to the rich. Bernie Sanders’ 2016 presidential campaign emerged from the economic discontent once encapsulated by Occupy Wall Street — a protest movement that Obama’s DHS and FBI brutally repressed at the tail end of his first term. In a pivot away from protest, an increasingly left-leaning Democratic Party base placed their energy into electing “progressive” members of Congress.
AOC has spent thousands on security, including $4k-plus to ex-Blackwater contractor
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez paid thousands for personal security to a former Blackwater contractor, a review of Federal Election Commission records shows.
AOC’s campaign spent at least $4,636 at Tullis Worldwide Protection for “security services” between January and June of this year, according to the filings.
The Franconia, Virginia-based company is owned by Devin Tullis, whose other clients include the royal families of both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, according to his website.
AOC, a New York Democrat, has been among the most vocal proponents of the defund the police movement since coming to Congress, and has insisted the idea would turn blighted communities into suburban paradises.
“[Suburban] communities have lower crime rates not because they have more police but because they have more resources to support healthy society in a way that reduces crime,” she said in a June 2020 Instagram story.
When New York City moved to defund a billion dollars from the NYPD, Ocasio-Cortez slammed the measure as insufficient. “Defunding police means defunding police,” the congresswoman said in a statement at the time.
YouTube complies with CNN copyright claim, censors leaked footage
YouTube has removed a recent video from investigative reporting outlet Project Veritas that featured leaked clips from an unreleased CNN documentary where Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez discusses her experience of the January 6 storming of the US Capitol with CNN anchor Dana Bash.
In the clips, Ocasio-Cortez agreed with Bash’s assertion that she thought she was going to be raped and killed during the events of January 6. She also claimed that “misogyny” and “racism” “animated that attack on the Capitol,” that “white supremacy and patriarchy are very linked in a lot of ways” and that “there’s a lot of sexualizing of that violence.”
Project Veritas criticized Bash’s questioning style, and noted that Ocasio-Cortez was not in the Capitol building when some of the CNN footage in the documentary was taped.
As with many of Project Veritas’ videos, this video featuring clips from the leaked CNN documentary was an instant hit and racked up tens of thousands of views in its first few hours.
But a few hours after it went live, YouTube blocked it after a copyright claim from “Turner CNN.”
Ocasio-Cortez Needs Fame, Invests $1.4 Million In Merch, Much Of It Emblazoned With Her Initials
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, in another move to make herself ubiquitous, paid a political merchandise firm a whopping $1.4 million from her campaign coffers just in the first six months of 2021 to create T-shirts and hats with leftist slogans such as “Tax the Rich” and “Abolish ICE” — much of the merchandise featuring her initials.
That sum paid to Financial Innovations, a political merchandise firm, according to campaign disclosures to the Federal Election Commission, is roughly twice as much as what she paid to the firm the previous two years, the Daily Mail noted.
Financial Innovations has also created merchandise for Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden. According to Andrew Frawley, who managed the merchandise operation for Andrew Yang’s 2020 presidential campaign, the Ocasio-Cortez campaign could accrue at least a 50% profit from sales of the merchandise.
Last December, The Daily Wire reported, “At her online store at shop.ocasiocortez.com, the former bartender is selling sweatshirts that say, ‘TAX THE RICH.’ You can also buy a ‘New Green Deal’ coffee mug for $27. Then there’s the ‘Drink Water & Don’t Be Racist’ T-shirt for $27. And the ‘cancel student debt’ shirt for the same price. And the ‘ABOLISH ICE’ dad hat for $28. But the ‘SOCIAL ECONOMIC RACIAL JUSTICE’ sweatshirt will set you back $65.
“The first question in the FAQ section addresses returns: ‘We do not accept returns or exchanges,’” The Daily Wire added.
AOC warns about ‘hysteria’ over rising crime just months after accusing GOP colleagues of trying to murder her
Ocasio-Cortez later agreed with far-left Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) who said during the video event that law enforcement should be defunded.
The progressive Squad member and Bowman have both been staunch proponents of the “Defund the Police” movement.
Bowman, however, despite his fiery rhetoric against “white supremacist” police, begged the Yonkers Police Department for increased police presence where he lives due to alleged “death threats” after the Capitol Hill riot on Jan. 6.
The pair discuss how to push the defunding police agenda further, despite the disastrous results it has produced. Ocasio-Cortez tells her congressional colleague:
“We are seeing these headlines about percentage increases [of violent crimes]. Now, I wanna say that any amount of harm is unacceptable and too much.”
“But, I also wanna make sure that this hysteria … you know, that this doesn’t drive a hysteria, and that we look at these numbers in context so that we can make responsible decisions about what to allocate … in that context,” she added.
Independent journalist Glenn Greenwald pointed out that just last month, Ocasio-Cortez had the power to stop $2 billion in additional funds for the Capitol Police that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wanted. All she had to do was vote “no” like Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Aryanna Pressley (D-MA).
“Instead, she voted ‘present’ to get more police protection for herself,” he said.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Aunt Says Officials In Puerto Rico Are To Blame For Blocked Aid, Not President Trump As Rep. Suggested
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-N.Y.) aunt has slammed her own niece after the congresswoman blamed President Donald Trump for her grandmother’s hardship. Speaking to a Daily Mail reporter this week, the New York Democrat’s aunt said Trump is not to blame for the lack of aid residents are receiving, but instead, officials on the Caribbean island are.
“It’s a problem here in Puerto Rico with the administration and the distribution of help,” said the aunt. “It is not a problem with Washington. We had the assistance and it didn’t get to the people.”
This comes after Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to say her grandmother had been suffering in Puerto Rico since Hurricane Maria in 2017. She proceeded to blame President Trump for blocking relief.
