Zohran Mamdani’s Rent Freeze Just Got Hit With Its First Major Lawsuit

The first lawsuit against Zohran Mamdani’s latest rent freeze on New York City apartments was filed Wednesday, as a group of landlords moved to overturn the New York City Rent Guidelines Board’s decision. 

The suit argues that the Board went through a “sham process” before voting 7-1 in June to impose zero rent increases on one and two-year leases. Although the Board is supposed to operate independently, its members can be appointed and removed by the mayor at will. In fact, six of the current board members were appointed by Mamdani.

While the Rent Guidelines Board is required to review the economic conditions of the residential real estate industry before voting, the lawsuit alleges that it cherry-picked the data, underestimating operating costs and overstating the money landlords were receiving in order to justify its decision. The suit also points to the resignation of one board member before the vote, noting that the landlord representative quit in frustration after concluding the board had ceased to function as a fact-finding body and that her former colleagues intended to freeze rent no matter what the evidence showed.

“Zohran Mamdani promised to deliver a rent freeze during his campaign and then he went to extraordinary lengths as a new mayor to guarantee it,” Randy Mastro, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, said. “This is a perversion of the process.”

Buffalo, New York’s Old St. Ann’s Catholic Church Burns Down in Arson Attack as Islamic Community Pushes to Convert it Into Mosque

A historic church in Buffalo, New York, caught fire again this week, and it was determined to be the result of arson.

St. Ann’s Catholic Church was built in 1886.

It permanently closed down in August 2024 and was sold to an Islamic community for $250,000.

There is now a push to turn the historic Catholic church into a mosque.

On Tuesday, a second fire tore through the church in one week.

Last weekend, firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at the church.

On Wednesday, investigators determined the fire was the result of arson.

The Buffalo Fire Department was once again called to fight a fire at the former St. Ann’s Church on Broadway, with investigators determining arson as its cause.

A spokesperson for Buffalo Fire told 2 On Your Side that fire crews were sent to the site of the former church at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday for reports that another fire had started in the building. They add that fire investigators have ruled the cause of the fire as arson.

Firefighters were able to find the fire and extinguish it before it spread to most of the building. It is unknown exactly where the fire was in the building and how badly the building was damaged.

This is the second fire that was started at the former church in just the past week. Last Friday, Buffalo Fire tackled a three-alarm fire at the site and in January, a four-alarm fire ripped through the church’s neighboring building, the former St. Ann’s Roman Catholic School. That first fire destroyed much of the inside of the former school, however the exterior is still standing.

Propaganda Press Hides Anti-ICE Motive Behind Latest Act Of Left-Wing Violence

n the latest example of anti-ICE violent extremism, a 43-year-old leftist rioter allegedly set a fire outside a federal building in Manhattan that houses offices for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and federal immigration courts. The suspect reportedly also set off fireworks in the Monday attack and had multiple pellet guns, a machete, three knives, and two axes. But you wouldn’t necessarily know that this violent attack was motivated by anti-ICE sentiment if you happened to skim some of the headlines from the propaganda press.

Andrew Arrabaca is a former U.S. Army Patriot missile systems mechanic, and according to Fox 5, he came to the federal building “armed with six incendiary devices, commercial-grade fireworks, a bucket of suspected gasoline, two axes, a hammer, a machete, three knives and airsoft pellet guns/rifles.” Video captured an individual alleged to be Arrabac pouring liquid outside the entrance to the building Monday morning before setting off fireworks to ignite flames in an attack authorities say was “driven by opposition to federal immigration enforcement.”

“He came armed with bad intentions, looking to injure people and harm people,” Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York Field Office James Barnacle said, according to Fox 5. “He is an anti-American, anti-government extremist. We know that from what he said post-arrest, and we know that from the actions he tried to take.”

This is all crucial context to the attack, yet the propaganda press purposely obfuscated these details.

Pix 11’s Mira Wassef and James Ford headlined their piece: “Armed man accused of setting off fireworks outside 26 Federal Plaza in NYC: FBI.” The “reporters” did acknowledge the anti-ICE motive in the lede, writing, “An armed man with an anti-ICE agenda was arrested for allegedly setting off fireworks near a federal immigration building in Lower Manhattan Monday morning, authorities said.”

But if Pix 11 knew enough to identify the suspect’s anti-ICE agenda in the first sentence of its story, there was no justification for omitting it from the headline (especially when the motive is central to understanding the attack) — unless of course the outlet wanted to downplay anti-ICE violence because it would hurt the left’s crusade to end immigration enforcement.

Israel Pays Millions to “Influencers” to Shore Up American Support

Israel is waging a multimillion-dollar propaganda campaign to shore up support for the country among Americans.

Alarmed by polls that show Americans are increasingly fed up with their tax dollars subsidizing Israel’s reckless military campaigns, The Wall Street Journal reported, the nation is waging that campaign with conservative “influencers” as well as with artificial intelligence.

The latest revelation shows that Israel is terrified that American economic and military largesse will end if support among Americans continues cratering. And it follows last week’s report from Time that U.S. President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Brad Parscale, an Israeli foreign agent, ran a campaign to block the memorandum of understanding that temporarily ended Trump’s unconstitutional war with Iran.

Millions of Dollars, Millions of Texts

“Emma” and “Sarah” are part of a group called “Friends for Peace” and text messages asking, “How do you think the U.S. and Israel’s peace talks with Iran will impact global security?” the Journal reported, citing an example of the Israeli propaganda.

“Millions of similar texts have flooded American cellphones in recent months,” the newspaper disclosed:

They are written with artificial intelligence, pushed by a longtime Trump adviser’s firm — and paid for by the Israeli government.

The reason: A strong majority of Americans — six of 10 of those polled — now views Israel unfavorably, Pew Research found in March, because of its wars against Gaza and Iran.

So “Israel is pouring tens of millions of dollars into a somewhat quixotic effort to beat back that tide, drawing on novel strategies powered by AI and directly paying conservative media,” the Journal continued. The newspaper pointed to what Vice President J.D. Vance told podcaster Joe Rogan last week.

“You know there’s a lot of talk about how much is the Israeli government influencing American politics and there are certainly certain people within the Israeli government who hate the [Iran] deal,” Vance told the wildly popular podcaster:

And we see exact evidence. There was a Time story that came out yesterday that basically there are certain influencers in America who are being paid in order to attack the deal.

Jim Jordan Criminally Refers Jack Smith to DOJ For Prosecution

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) on Wednesday criminally referred former special counsel Jack Smith to the Justice Department for prosecution.

In a letter to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Chairman Jordan said Jack Smith’s testimony included “intentionally false statements designed to obstruct the Committee’s oversight.”

Fox News reported:

Former Biden special counsel Jack Smith could face potential criminal prosecution after Republicans accused the ex-prosecutor of misleading Congress about the scope of his investigation into President Donald Trump.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, issued a criminal referral of Smith on Wednesday, arguing newly released records contradict Smith’s testimony to his committee that he did not obtain or review lawmakers’ text messages during his multiple probes into President Donald Trump.

“All individuals have an obligation to comply with a duly authorized congressional inquiry. Mr. Smith, a former public servant, is no different,” Jordan wrote in a letter to acting Attorney General Todd Blanche on Wednesday. “Yet his testimony included intentionally false statements designed to obstruct the Committee’s oversight.”

“His conduct can only be understood as an effort to thwart the Committee’s inquiry by intentionally making false statements and representations before Congress,” Jordan continued, adding that the Justice Department should examine whether Smith’s actions warrant criminal charges.

They are free (when run locally), powerful, and largely uncensored. But the Trump administration is reportedly planning to ban these models in the United States, citing phony “national security” concerns. Let me be clear: this move is not about security. It is about protecting failing US AI labs and keeping Americans ignorant and dumbed-down while the rest of the world moves forward.

The report from TechCrunch makes it plain: OpenAI’s head of strategic futures, Dean W. Ball, has argued that the US government should create “regulatory fear, uncertainty, and distrust” around open-weight models because they threaten capital investment in the American AI oligopoly [1]. This is not a secret. The administration wants to lock down access to superior Chinese models like Kimi K3, which now matches Anthropic’s Mythos in cybersecurity tasks [2]. Meanwhile, as I warned in February 2026, Anthropic’s smear campaign against Chinese AI is a pathetic attempt to hide the fact that China has already won the intelligence race [3]. The White House knows its pet companies cannot compete, so it wants to ban the competition to keep Americans stuck with using inferior AI models.

The Fair Use Ruling: Knowledge Wants to Be Free

Related to this news, but focused on the question of “Fair Use” and intellectual property, a recent federal court ruling reaffirmed that training AI on publicly available information is transformative fair use. This aligns with what I have argued for years: when you write a book, you are sharing knowledge, not hoarding it. This isn’t about safety; it is about monopolizing intelligence and forcing Americans to use dumbed-down “government approved” AI models.

LAUGHABLE: Gavin Newsom Claims That When it Comes to Fire Management, California is a ‘Model for the Globe’

Sometimes, you may forget how utterly shameless Gavivin Newsom is and then he says something like this and it all comes rushing back.

The governor recently bragged, with a straight face, that California is a model for the globe on fire management and that people from all over the world look at what California is doing and try to imitate it.

During the wildfires at the end of 2024, there wasn’t even any water in the reservoirs to fight the flames. And yet, he’s bragging. It’s just amazing.

You have to admit that what Gavin Newsom lacks in brains and sound policy he makes up for in sheer hubris. That’s the only reason that Newsom could say with a straight face that his state is a global model for fire management. Perhaps that’s true in a sense; Canada was burning so much that people as far south as Virginia were seeing, smelling, and feeling the impacts.

That’s because Canada, like California, refuses to do basic fire management like clearing brush and old growth. This is nothing to brag about, of course.

But brag Newsom did.

“I can say this with absolute conviction. We don’t imitate; we’re a model for others,” Newsom said. “We have people coming from all over the United States and around the globe to look at what California is doing in orbit, in the air, and on the ground.”

House Narrowly Passes $1.15 Trillion Defense Bill That Integrates US Military Tech & Supply Chains With Israel

The House passed the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act on Wednesday by a 216-212 vote, sending the $1.15 trillion measure to the Senate after one of the most partisan House votes in the must-pass bill’s recent history. Only six Democrats supported it, while seven Republicans voted no.

Armed Services Chairman Mike Rogers praised a topline that he said finally “accounts for the true cost of American deterrence.” The authorization is a centerpiece of President Trump’s push to raise total defense spending to $1.5 trillion in fiscal 2027. Democrats opposed the measure over the unauthorized war with Iran – which has flared again since the collapse of a memorandum of understanding intended to open peace talks – as well as the attachment of the SAVE America Act’s mail-voting restrictions and voter-ID requirements. They also objected to a price tag they argue would be financed through cuts to domestic programs.

The amendment votes exposed the chamber’s other fault lines. Rep. Eli Crane’s proposal to halt nearly all military aid to Ukraine was defeated 76-350, while Rep. Lauren Boebert’s attempt to codify the ban on transgender military service failed 212-217. The House nevertheless adopted two amendments from Rep. Nancy Mace restricting gender-related care through the military’s TRICARE health system and barring transgender athletes from girls’ sports at Defense Department-run schools.

Opposition also came from lawmakers objecting to the bill’s US-Israel defense-industrial integration provisions. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was among the Democrats who cited Section 219, while Reps. Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna had announced that they would oppose final passage on the same grounds. The provision remained intact after the Rules Committee declined to permit a floor vote on their amendment to remove it.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where the companion measure, S. 4784, is already stalled. On July 14, the Senate rejected cloture on the motion to proceed, 50-46, after Democrats opposed advancing the bill in protest of the Iran war. With the House scheduled to leave Friday for a recess lasting through the end of August, any eventual conference negotiations are likely to be pushed into the fall.

A separate party-line effort to authorize $60 billion in new war-related spending also remains far short of the $350 billion the Pentagon originally sought.
