Who Will Protect Us From the Protectors?

In the same week in which President Donald Trump announced that he was federalizing 200 Oregon National Guard soldiers and dispatching them to the streets of Portland, he quietly signed a Presidential National Security Memorandum that purports to federalize policing. The Memorandum, just like the federalization of troops in Oregon, completely disregards constitutional safeguards against such practices.

Here is the backstory.

When James Madison and his colleagues crafted the Constitution and shortly thereafter the Bill of Rights, they intentionally created a limited federal government. They confined the federal government to the 16 discrete powers granted to Congress. Those powers identify areas of governance uniquely federal.

Conspicuously and intentionally absent is public safety. To clarify this, the 10th Amendment articulates the reservation by the states of powers not granted to the feds. This relationship is called federalism.

Constitutional scholars often refer to the powers retained by the states as the police power. The use of the word “police” here doesn’t mean police officers on the streets. It means the inherent and never-delegated-away powers of the states to govern for the health, safety, welfare and morality of all persons in those states.

In his famous Bank Speech, in which Madison argued brilliantly but unsuccessfully for a textualist understanding of the Constitution – he was opposing the creation of the First National Bank of the United States essentially because it was not authorized by the Constitution – he laid out the principles of limited government. He reminded those in Congress who had just sent the proposed Bill of Rights to the states for ratification that they did not constitute a general legislature that can right any wrong or regulate any behavior or intrude upon any relationship. Rather, their powers were limited to federal matters.

Merely because an area of governance is reflected nationally does not make the area federal. Chief among these is the police power.

The wall between state and federal law enforcement was generally recognized until 9/11. Prior to that, the FBI and other federal police agencies, none of which is authorized by the Constitution, generally devoted their efforts to enforcing federal law. After 9/11, the Bush administration – perhaps to divert public attention from its having slept on that fateful day – began a federal/state collaboration to fight “terrorism.”

Just as the war on drugs in the 1970s and ’80s weakened the privacy protections of the Fourth Amendment, the war on terror in the 2000s weakened the constitutional fabric of federalism. With a public still shell-shocked over the attacks, and a Congress pliant to the presidency and the intelligence community, Congress enacted the Patriot Act, which permits federal agents to write their own search warrants, and the states fell subject to federal domination over their policing. Slowly, the feds began to intrude and dominate into areas of law enforcement with the false claim that nearly all crimes affected national security.

To garner public support for this, the feds engaged in ostentatious sting operations in which they lured disaffected young Muslim men into traps that were ostensibly criminal but were totally controlled. They then took credit for solving “crimes” that they had created. None of this was constitutional, yet few but the victims of the stings complained. Even the courts went along.

As Benjamin Franklin warned, when people fear for their safety, they will allow the government to curtail their liberty. Of course, this is all illusory, as history teaches that sacrificing liberty for safety enhances neither.

Nation Stunned After Child’s Killer Freed

The White House is looking into the case of a convicted killer who stabbed a 6-year-old to death in 2015 and is now walking free because of supposed good behavior since he plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

Ronald Exantus broke into a family’s home, stole a kitchen knife and used it to stab sleeping Logan Tipton, who was sleeping, to death.

White House Secretary Karoline Leavitt posted on X that the White House is looking into this case.

“I can confirm the White House is looking into this. It’s wholly unacceptable for a child killer to walk free after just several years in prison.”

A viral video shows Kentucky father Dean Tipton said he will kill the man if the two cross path.

“I’ve had my talks with God ’cause I’m not afraid to tell you what I told the court,” his father, Dean Tipton, told WLKY-TV. “If I ever cross paths with him, I will kill the man. I will kill him where he stands.”

Matt Walsh previously posted a video on X.

“This case should be getting A LOT more attention. Should be massively viral. We need the White House on it. A man who broke into a house and stabbed a child to death is now walking free. One of the most heinous miscarriages of justice in American history.”

Pam Bondi Orders FULL INVESTIGATION into Nick Sortor’s Unjust Arrest in Portland – Investigation Will Be Led By No-Nonsense Assistant AG Harmeet Dhillon

The Trump Administration is taking action following the arrest of one of the most prominent conservative journalists in America.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, Portland Police arrested Sortor on Thursday night after he defended himself from Antifa thugs. The woman who attacked him was not arrested.

X user Mark Wilson shared a clip showing Sortor being led away in handcuffs. “Portland PD arrested a journalist, but none of the domestic terrorists,” he wrote.

Sortor explained to Fox News’s Bill Melugin that he was getting video of Antifa fascists crying after getting maced by federal agents. Then, the agitators swarmed him, shoved him down into a flower bed, and someone threw a punch.

Sortor responded by swinging back but missing. He then disengaged and walked over to a group of Portland PD.

The police, though, responded by arresting him and charging him with disorderly conduct.

Now, Sortor has revealed that the Portland Police are about to find out.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed to Sortor that she has ordered a full investigation into Sortor’s ridiculous arrest. No-nonsense Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon will lead the investigation.

“BREAKING: Attorney General Pam Bondi has ORDERED a full investigation, led by Asst. AG Harmeet Dhillon, of the Portland Police Bureau, following my wrongful arrest last night, Bondi confirmed to me,” Sortor wrote.

“FAFO, @PortlandPolice,” he added.” @AGPamBondi personally called me to deliver this news, and I’m incredibly grateful to her for doing so.”

“The Trump DOJ WILL NOT allow Portland Police to continue to do the bidding of Antifa.”

Trump’s base (apart from the Zionists) is increasingly restive. Venezuela, Iran, Israel, Ukraine policies are deeply unpopular. The economy is becoming toast. How will he move to regain popularity?

Does President Trump think a new war or two can save him? Nope—his BS maneuvers bombing Iran were a joke, a fake show of strength that bought him absolutely nothing except loss of respect.

UKRAINE

His claim of concern for the waste of life in Ukraine led to no reasonable offers to end that conflict. Here is what the West did to Russia (and the US still leads the West) to provoke this war:

  1. Trashed the 2014 Maidan agreement
  2. Built up a large Ukraine army and transferred many arms to Ukraine subsequently
  3. Applied very strict sanctions on Russia
  4. Encouraged neo-Nazi elements in Ukraine to continually terrorize the Russian-speaking eastern regions, killing about 15,000 citizens
  5. Placed criminal, compromised Zelinsky (a comedian) in as President to do the West’s bidding
  6. Attempted to blow up all 4 Nordstrom pipelines that brought Russian gas to Europe, and managed to blow up 3 with 2 charges placed on one line

Well, the West, its NATO and the US have expended a huge amount of money and lives in hopes of grabbing Russia’s resources after chewing up most of the fat in their own countries. And look where it has gotten them. The crazed European leaders with open immigration, Net Zero, 15 minute cities, etc., in addition to election thefts and now sending troops to Ukraine, have destroyed their countries’ economies. And lost all shred of dignity and morality. They are desperate, cornered, and we fear where they will go from here. Will the US go with them?

ISRAEL

Meanwhile, the West encouraged Netanyahu to impose the final solution on Gaza—putting his country’s future at grave risk, encouraging antisemitism everywhere, and murdering and terrorizing millions of innocent civilians. Using the excuse of Hamas’ terrorism. But we can never forget that Israel funded Hamas or allowed Qatar to fund Hamas—it is one or the other, the facts are very clear—supposedly to keep Gaza from allying with the West Bank. But what if it was also to lay the groundwork for an October 7 excuse to empty Gaza of its 2 million inhabitants?

Why is Trump handing Israel the weapons to continue its “war” in Gaza? This is no war, it is a massacre. Simply look at the casualty figures if you disagree with me.

Trans Democrat Attacked ICE Agents. Now She’s Asking the Public for Bail Donations.

A Portland transgender activist pleaded guilty this week to felony charges after attempting to intimidate federal immigration officers with a knife and later resisting arrest.

Despite the serious nature of the crimes, the defendant has now turned to crowdfunding to solicit donations for bail.

Julie Winters, 47, of Portland, admitted in federal court to one count of Felony Intimidation of a Federal Officer and one count of Resisting Arrest.

According to court documents, on June 24, 2025, Winters confronted officers at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in South Portland armed with a large knife.

Prosecutors stated Winters swung the weapon back and forth in an effort to scare off officers who were attempting to engage with her. The incident was treated as a direct threat to federal law enforcement personnel.

Following the June confrontation, Winters was released on pretrial conditions. However, she violated those terms just weeks later.

On August 20, 2025, she appeared at the Pretrial Services Office in Portland, where U.S. Marshals attempted to arrest her on a federal warrant.

Court records show she resisted by making “forcible contact” with deputy marshals during the arrest attempt.

The defendant was subdued and taken into custody without serious injuries reported.

China is starting to talk about AI superintelligence, and some in the U.S. are taking notice

Early last week in the Chinese tech hub of Hangzhou, a slick, larger-than-life video screen beamed out four words that would drive tech giant Alibaba’s stock to historic levels and signal a shift in China’s approach to artificial intelligence: “Roadmap to Artificial Superintelligence.”

During his 23-minute keynote address at the flagship Alibaba Cloud conference, Alibaba CEO Eddie Wu charted out a future featuring artificial general intelligence (AGI) and artificial superintelligence (ASI). These terms point to a theorized era in which AI becomes roughly as smart as humans (AGI) and then much, much smarter (ASI).

While these terms have been tossed around Silicon Valley for years, Wu’s presentation was notable: Alibaba is now the first established Chinese tech giant to explicitly invoke AGI and ASI.

“Achieving AGI — an intelligent system with general human-level cognition — now appears inevitable. Yet AGI is not the end of AI’s development, but its beginning,” Wu said. “It will march toward ASI — intelligence beyond the human, capable of self-iteration and continuous evolution.”

“ASI will drive exponential technological leaps, carrying us into an unprecedented age of intelligence,” Wu said, highlighting ASI’s ability to help cure diseases, discover cleaner sources of energy and even unlock interstellar travel.

The U.S. and China are the world’s leading AI powers, each with immense computing capabilities and top-tier researchers developing cutting-edge systems. Yet observers have framed the countries as having different approaches to AI, with perceptions that China focuses more on real-world AI applications.

For example, commentators recently argued that Beijing is currently “winning the race for AI robots” against the U.S., as China is home to much of the world’s most advanced robotics supply chains and a growing network of robotics, or embodied AI, labs.

“There’s been some commentary in Western media recently about how the U.S. is missing the point by pushing for AGI, while China is focusing solely on applications,” said Helen Toner, interim executive director of Georgetown’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology. “This is wrong.”

“Some Chinese researchers and some parts of the Chinese government have been interested in AGI and superintelligence for a long time,” Toner said, though she noted this view was primarily held by smaller startups like DeepSeek.

Seattle mayor rejects locking up repeat criminals during tense debate: ‘Maybe they’re hungry’

Seattle Democratic Mayor Bruce Harrell said during a mayoral debate Thursday night he has “no desire” to put repeat criminal defenders in jail, and he doesn’t know how to answer the question on whether the city is “too lax” on repeat offenders.

“So, let me make something very clear. I was the one that sponsored the ‘Ban the Box’ legislation when everyone opposed it because the criminal system has had a disparate impact on Black and Brown communities, let me lead with that,” Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said in a mayoral debate Thursday night when asked a follow-up question about repeat offenders in the city.

Harrell’s “Ban the Box” proposal in 2013 prevented employers from asking about an applicant’s criminal history on applications up front.

Harrell then said, “When this person is committing six or seven crimes, I don’t know his or her story. Maybe they were abused as a child. Maybe they’re hungry. But my remedy is to find their life story to see how we can help. First, I have no desire to put them in jail, but I need to protect you, and that’s the calibration that we have.

Three Germans arrested in Norway over drone incident

Three Germans have been arrested in Norway for allegedly launching a drone in a prohibited zone around an airport, Bild has reported.

The outlet cited local media as saying the three men were detained on Tuesday and released shortly afterwards. It did not identify the men or the type of UAV involved in the incident near Rossvoll Airport.

Separately, Norwegian police confirmed that a Chinese national was deported and fined 12,000 kroner ($1,200) after allegedly flying a drone near Svolvaer Airport in the north of the country. Authorities said they are continuing to investigate multiple reports of drone activity near airports, military facilities and other critical infrastructure.

The incidents come as Western Europe has been plagued by repeated drone sightings in recent weeks, forcing temporary shutdowns at several airports. In Belgium, authorities confirmed that 15 drones were detected above the Elsenborn military base in Liege Province. Munich Airport in Germany was temporarily closed on Friday after unidentified drones were reported in its airspace. Scandinavian airports have also reported incursions.

Western media and officials have suggested that Russia is behind the drone incidents. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson claimed it is “quite probable” Moscow is responsible, although he admitted this has not been proven. European leaders have cited the incidents as justification for boosting military spending and creating a so-called “drone wall.”

New York Imposes Law Forcing Social Media to Justify Speech Policies to State Authorities

Social media companies operating in New York are now under fresh legal obligations as the state enforces the so-called “Stop Hiding Hate Act,” a new compelled speech law that forces platforms with annual revenues exceeding $100 million to hand over detailed reports on how they handle various forms of speech, including speech that is legally protected under the First Amendment.

The legislation went into effect on October 1 and has already triggered a constitutional showdown in court.

The law, officially Senate Bill S895B, demands biannual disclosures to the state Attorney General’s office.

These reports must outline how platforms define terms such as “hate speech,” “misinformation,” “harassment,” “disinformation,” and “extremism.”

Companies are also required to explain what moderation practices they apply to those categories and to provide specifics about actions taken against users and content.

Platforms that fail to comply face penalties of up to $15,000 per violation, per day. Injunctive action can also be taken against non-compliant entities.

Attorney General Letitia James declared that the law is about transparency and oversight.

“With violence and polarization on the rise, social media companies must ensure that their platforms don’t fuel hateful rhetoric and disinformation,” she said in a public statement, reinforcing her view that private companies should be accountable to the state for how they manage user expression.

“The Stop Hiding Hate Act requires social media companies to share their content moderation policies publicly and with my office to ensure that these companies are more transparent about how they are addressing harmful content on their platforms.”

Governor Kathy Hochul voiced similar sentiments, saying the legislation “builds on our efforts to improve safety online and marks an important step to increase transparency and accountability.”

TikTok censors posts about AIPAC’s influence after ownership change

TikTok has begun censoring posts that discuss the influence of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) in the United States. This change follows a recent ownership transition to billionaires aligned with Israeli interests.

The decision to censor content related to AIPAC has raised concerns among users regarding freedom of expression on the platform. The specific nature of the posts being targeted has not been detailed, but the move has sparked discussions about the implications of ownership on social media content moderation.

This development comes amid ongoing political tensions and discussions surrounding AIPAC”s role in U.S. politics. Similar situations have been observed in other contexts, including recent developments in Madagascar, where protests have erupted over political issues, as reported in recent coverage.

No further information has been provided by TikTok regarding the criteria for censorship or the potential impact on user engagement. The situation continues to evolve as users and observers monitor the platform”s policies.
