Third Chinese scientist charged with smuggling illegal biological pathogen into US from Wuhan

A third Chinese scientist has been charged with smuggling biological materials into the United States after a University of Michigan student and her boyfriend were caught last week.

Chengxuan Han was arrested on Sunday at Detroit Metropolitan airport and charged with smuggling goods into the US.

Police allege Han sent four packages which ‘contained biological material related to round worms’ from China to the US.

The packages were sent between September 2024 and March 2025 and addressed to people linked to the laboratory at the University of Michigan.

Han initially denied sending the packages at all, according to court documents. She later insisted they contained plastic cups, rather than petri dishes.

According to the documents, she ultimately admitted sending the samples, which she had collected during her research as a Ph.D. student in Wuhan, China.

The charges come less than a week after University of Michigan postdoctoral fellow Yunqing Jian, 33, was charged alongside Zunyong Liu, 34, for attempting to smuggle a weapon of ‘agroterrorism’ into the United States in a sinister plot allegedly tied to the Chinese Communist Party.

Liu arrived in the United States from China in July 2024 carrying four small baggies of Fusarium graminearum – a product responsible for causing billions of dollars worth of damage to livestock, wheat, barley, maize and rice globally each year.

All three of the accused have links to the same university laboratory.

Third Teen Death in National Forest Alarms: Two High Schoolers Found Shot on Camping Trip

The tragic deaths of high school students Pandora Kjolsrud and Evan Clark have gripped the community, with their lives cut short in Tonto National Forest, Arizona. Both teenagers were found shot near Mount Ord, north of Mesa, and authorities have confirmed the investigation as a homicide. The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office remains tight-lipped on the specifics, yet the gravity of the situation has left an indelible mark.

Arcadia High School students Kjolsrud and Clark were simply on a camping trip when their lives were tragically ended. This incident marks the second and third teenager deaths in the area since February. Earlier, the remains of 14-year-old Emily Pike were discovered, adding another layer of mystery and concern to the sequence of events.

Emily Pike’s disappearance from a group home in January ended with the grim discovery of her dismembered body. The distance of over 70 miles from her last known location to where she was found is chilling. Her case, still under investigation by the FBI and local law enforcement, has yet to see any arrests.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office has not linked Pike’s case with the recent deaths of Kjolsrud and Clark. However, the community is on edge, yearning for answers and justice. Families are left to grapple with loss and the haunting questions that accompany such tragedies.

A GoFundMe campaign for Kjolsrud’s family highlights her vibrant spirit and the joy she spread. Her infectious smile left a lasting impact on those who knew her. The fundraiser paints a picture of a young woman who made everyone feel special, a testament to her remarkable character.

Evan Clark, remembered fondly by his mother, wasn’t your typical teenager. His entrepreneurial spirit and sensitivity set him apart. The touching letter he wrote to his mother on Mother’s Day is a poignant reminder of the depth of his love and the promise of a future now lost.

The community’s call for answers is echoed in the voices of those who knew and loved the teenagers. The proximity of this tragedy has left many feeling vulnerable and yearning for closure. The question of what happened that fateful day looms large in the hearts of those affected.

DACA Recipient Imprisoned in U.S. for Purchasing Guns for Mexican Cartels

A Mexican national under the DACA program has received a significant prison sentence for his involvement in a firearms trafficking scheme. Mario Elier Leal, 22, was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for leading a straw purchasing ring supplying weapons to Mexican cartels. The sentencing took place in McAllen, Texas, overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane.

Leal had pleaded guilty to the charges in 2024, admitting his role in the illegal operation. The U.S. Attorney’s Office detailed that Leal will face deportation proceedings after serving his sentence, as he is not a U.S. citizen. His status under DACA allowed him to remain in the U.S. despite being brought in as a child illegally.

Prosecutors revealed Leal recruited individuals to purchase AK-47-type rifles, which were then smuggled into Mexico. At the time of his arrest, authorities seized three rifles acquired through two young Americans legally able to buy firearms in Texas. Although the court documents did not specify which cartel received the guns, the Gulf Cartel controls the area south of McAllen.

Leal confessed to paying $300 to each participant who bought guns for him, exploiting a loophole in U.S. laws that barred him from purchasing them himself. Federal officials suspect that at least 13 additional weapons were either purchased or in the process of being obtained for Leal. This case highlights the ongoing challenges of gun trafficking across the U.S.-Mexico border.

The connection to the Gulf Cartel, though not explicitly stated, raises concerns about the porous nature of the border in terms of illegal arms smuggling. The Gulf Cartel has long been a dominant force in the region, and activities like Leal’s only serve to strengthen their grip. Authorities are keen to reinforce the legal measures that prevent such trafficking.

‘Coming for us’: Expert sounds alarm on CCP’s mission to ‘kill Americans’ after FBI makes shocking arrests

Following news that two Chinese nationals were charged with allegedly smuggling a “dangerous biological pathogen” into the U.S. to study at an American university, Fox News Digital spoke to an expert on China who said the arrests should be a wake-up call to the country.

“I was entirely unsurprised, which is a sad commentary, but it speaks to the Chinese Communist Party, the CCP wants to kill Americans,” Michael Sobolik, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute focusing on U.S. and China relations, told Fox News Digital after FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrests of the two Chinese nationals.

“Look at what they’ve done with smuggling fentanyl precursors into our country to kill Americans, look at the effects of them failing to stop the spread of COVID-19,” Sobolik said. “Dead Americans. The fact that they want to target Americans here within the United States with pathogens and with bioweapons. This is the Chinese Communist Party. This is what they do. They’re in a cold war with the United States. They want to become the most powerful nation in the world and they wanna make the world safe for their tyranny and unsafe for freedom. And they’re coming for us here at home.”

The couple are accused of smuggling a fungus called Fusarium graminearum, which scientific literature classifies as a “potential agroterrorism weapon,” according to the Justice Department. Federal prosecutors note that the noxious fungus causes “head blight,” a disease of wheat, barley, maize and rice, and “is responsible for billions of dollars in economic losses worldwide each year.”

FBI thwarts teen’s alleged ‘serious’ mall attack plot involving explosives, gunfire

The FBI and law enforcement officials in Columbia County, Oregon, arrested a teenager late last month who was allegedly planning to carry out a mass shooting involving explosives at a Washington state shopping mall.

In a news release Thursday, the FBI said the teen, whose name was not released, was arrested May 22 by deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

The FBI learned of “detailed and imminent” attack plans after they were reported to the agency just two days before the juvenile’s arrest.

After learning about the alleged planned attack, the FBI said it began working with its partners to identify the mastermind behind the threat. On May 20, the Columbia County teenager was identified as a suspect.

According to the FBI, the teenager shared nihilistic violent extremist ideology, as well as the plans, in online chats.

The teenager was placed under court-authorized surveillance out of caution for the public, and, on May 22, a federal search warrant was executed, leading to the teen’s arrest.

The FBI said the suspect demonstrated the intention and means to carry out a plan that included details like the map of the Three Rivers Mall in Kelso, located more than two hours south of Seattle, and a route to follow.

Alleged manifesto of murder suspect Luigi Mangione highlights lessons learned from Unabomber: Court docs

Police caught up with Luigi Mangione, 27, at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, five days after he allegedly gunned down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel last December. In addition to allegedly finding a 9mm handgun, a homemade silencer, multiple cartridges, a fake New Jersey ID, a passport, approximately $7,800 in cash, and a written admission of guilt on his person, police reportedly found a notebook detailing plans for the shooting.

Mangione’s defense attorney asked the court overseeing the case to rule the notebook inadmissible, claiming the search of Mangione’s backpack where it was located violated his Fourth Amendment rights. The defense also asked the court to dismiss his indictment altogether.

Prosecutors responded with a damning court filing on Wednesday containing entries from Mangione’s alleged notebook, which they claim reveals “in unambiguous terms [the] defendant’s intent and motive in deliberately assassinating the CEO of the country’s largest health company.”

In an Aug. 15, 2024, entry, Mangione allegedly wrote, “I finally feel confident about what I will do. The details are coming together. And I don’t feel any doubt about whether it’s right/justified. I’m glad — in a way — that I’ve procrastinated bc it allowed me to learn more about UHC. KMD [the initials of another apparent target considered] would’ve been an unjustified catastrophe that would be perceived mostly as sick, but more importantly unhelpful.”

‘It’s Disgusting’: Voters Are Furious With Gavin Newsom For Pulling Rug From Under Passed Ballot Measure

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom elected not to dedicate funds in his proposed budget to enforce a widely-popular ballot proposal that passed in November, prompting small business owners and lawmakers to tell the Daily Caller News Foundation that they aren’t pleased that the governor appears to be ignoring the will of the voters.

In November 2024, 68.4% of California voters approved Prop 36, aimed at cracking down on retail theft and drug use and subsequently reversing Proposition 47, which reduced criminal punishments such as shoplifting and grand theft. But when Newsom released his revised $322 billion budget in May, small business owners and lawmakers criticized him for leaving out funding and ignoring the measure’s broad support.

Speaking to the DCNF ahead of the November 2024 vote, Fraser Ross, owner of a small business with multiple locations across Los Angeles County, said theft in the city had been rampant. He described how businesses were “taking a loss” because Prop 47 downgraded drug possession penalties and reclassified thefts under $950 from felonies to misdemeanors.

The small business owner ripped into Newsom when asked by the DCNF about the governor’s decision to exclude funding for the measure in his May budget revision. “He’s just a puppet and he has no care for California,” Ross told the DCNF.  “He likes to emphasize we’re now the fourth biggest economy in the world, wherever these statistics came from. But Newsom does not care about business in California.”

Three Sisters Who Vanished Visiting Homeless Father Found Dead, Manhunt Underway

The three young sisters who vanished near Wenatchee, Washington, while visiting their homeless father have been found dead and police have launched a massive manhunt for the missing father.

The Decker sisters – Paityn, age 9, Evelyn, age 8, and Olivia, age 5 – were all found dead near their father’s truck at a campground in Wenatchee after an intensive search by SWAT and a Homeland Security helicopter.

Per the New York Post:

The girls’ AMBER alerts were canceled late Monday without explanation, before police confirmed the deaths Tuesday with “sincere and deep heartfelt condolences to the family.”

The search continued for their 32-year-old dad, Travis Decker, who had collected them from their mother’s house for a planned visitation on Friday — then went missing with them in his white 2017 GMC Sierra truck.

Hours before the bodies were found, a warrant was issued for Decker’s arrest on three counts of first-degree custodial interference.

Upon discovery of the bodies, the charges against Decker were upped to three counts of kidnapping and first-degree murder. He was divorced from his ex-wife, the mother of his children, and had been staying at campgrounds and hotels with his dog. Whitney Decker, the girls’ mother, said in a statement prior to their bodies being discovered that Travis struggled with mental health issues, but that she never thought he would become violent.
