European Powers Trigger ‘Snapback’ Sanctions on Iran

The UK, France, and Germany have begun the process of reimposing UN Security Council sanctions on Iran under the “snapback” mechanism of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, known as the JCPOA, a step that makes another US-Israeli war on Iran more likely.

The European countries, known as the E3, sent a letter to the UN Security Council notifying it that they were triggering the sanctions, which will take effect in 30 days. Iran has said that the E3 countries don’t have the right to reimpose the sanctions since it was the US that withdrew from and violated the JCPOA in 2018.

The E3 said they were open to reaching a diplomatic deal with Iran that could halt the sanctions, but it’s unclear what sort of agreement could be reached. Their demands include that Iran resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), but Tehran’s recent decision to allow IAEA inspectors to return to Iran didn’t stop the E3 from triggering the sanctions.

Iran expelled IAEA inspectors in the wake of the US-Israeli war in response to the watchdog’s role in providing a pretext for the initial Israeli attack and for its failure to condemn the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities. Tehran also suspects that Israel may have gotten the names of Iranian scientists who were assassinated in the war from the IAEA.

The E3 also wants Iran to resume nuclear negotiations with the US. Iranian officials have been clear that they’re open to diplomacy with Washington but want assurances that they won’t be attacked again since the US and Israel used the previous negotiations as a cover to launch the war.

The US welcomed the E3’s step to trigger the sanctions. “The United States appreciates the leadership of our E3 allies in this effort. Over the coming weeks, we will work with them and other Members of the UN Security Council to successfully complete the snapback of international sanctions and restrictions on Iran,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi strongly condemned the E3’s move as “unjustified, illegal, and lacking any legal basis,” and warned that Tehran would take steps in response. “The Islamic Republic of Iran will respond appropriately to this unlawful and unwarranted measure by the three European countries to protect its national rights and interests,” he said.

Some Iranian officials have warned that if snapback sanctions are re-imposed, Tehran could withdraw from the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), a step that could be used by Israel and the US as a pretext to launch another war, even though Israel is not a signatory to the NPT. Unlike Iran, Israel actually has a secret nuclear weapons program and a stockpile of nuclear weapons that’s not officially acknowledged by the US and Israel.

Democrat Policies Are so Unpopular That a Dark Money Group is Paying Progressive Influencers $8K a Month to Push Them

A dark money group on the left is paying progressive influencers up to $8,000 a month to push Democrat policy ideas. Must be nice.

This is so typical. For all of the Democrats’ talk of getting ‘big money’ out of politics, they are the worst culprits of using big money to advance their agenda when it suits them.

The New York Post reports:

‘Dark money’ group paying pro-Dem influencers up to $8K a month: report

A secretive dark money group tied to the Democratic Party is paying online influencers up to $8,000 a month to disseminate left-leaning talking points, according to a report.

The “Chorus Creator Incubator Program” is said to be funded by the “Sixteen Thirty Fund,” a nonprofit sometimes portrayed as the left’s answer to the Koch network and which has funneled money to dozens of Democratic-friendly influencers, according to WIRED magazine.

The names attached to the program span some of the most recognizable liberal voices online.

They include Olivia Julianna, the Gen Z activist who spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention; Loren Piretra, a former Playboy executive turned Occupy Democrats YouTuber; and Barrett Adair, the content creator who runs a viral American Girl Doll–themed meme account.

The program also includes Suzanne Lambert, who styles herself a “Regina George liberal”; Arielle Fodor, a teacher with 1.4 million TikTok followers; Sander Jennings, the TLC reality star and older brother of trans influencer Jazz Jennings; and David Pakman, host of a YouTube show.

More from the story in Wired:

“There are some real great advantages to … housing this program in a nonprofit,” Graham Wilson, a lawyer working with Chorus, said to creators on a Zoom call reviewed by WIRED. “It gives us the ability to raise money from donors. It also, with this structure, it avoids a lot of the public disclosure or public disclaimers—you know, ‘Paid for by blah blah blah blah’—that you see on political ads. We don’t need to deal with any of that. Your names aren’t showing up on, like, reports filed with the FEC.” (Wilson did not reply to a request for comment.)

Video confirms Israeli troops fired three tank shells at Gaza’s Nasser Hospital

New video shows that a double-tap attack carried out by Israeli forces on a hospital in Gaza involved three separate munitions, one in the first strike and two in the second, CNN reported on 28 August.

The 25 August attack on Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Yunis in Gaza killed 22 people, including health workers, emergency response crews, and five journalists.

On the morning of the strike, Reuters journalist Hossam al-Masri was operating a live stream from an exterior stairwell on the top floor of the Nasser Hospital.

At 10:09 am, an Israeli munition targeted Masri, killing him and one other man.

Journalists and rescue workers rushed to the stairwell to look for survivors.

At 10:17 am, as rescue workers were carrying a body down the stairwell, a second and third Israeli strike, just milliseconds apart, targeted the stairwell, killing 20 more.

“One shell hits the staircase where first responders had gathered; a fraction of a second later, another explodes at almost the same spot,” CNN wrote, describing the video.

N.R. Jenzen-Jones, director of Armament Research Services, said the munitions were likely fired by two separate tanks at the same time.

“The impact of two projectiles at nearly the exact same moment suggests two tanks may have fired on the target simultaneously,” Jenzen-Jones told CNN. “It’s hard to read too much into that, but it suggests a more carefully coordinated attack, rather than a single vehicle firing at a ‘target of opportunity.’ Modern tank guns, supported by the sensors and systems of modern tanks, are very precise.”

“In gruesome video filmed after the second and third strikes, scores of bodies can be seen on the staircase on both the top floor and the floor below,” CNN added.

The five journalists killed were Reuters journalist Hossam al-Masri, Al Jazeera cameraman Mohammad Salama, Independent Arabia and AP journalist Maryam Abu Daqqa, and NBC journalist Muath Abu Taha.

Journalist Ahmad Abu Aziz later succumbed to his wounds, which were sustained in the same attack.

Mother of Transgender Minneapolis Mass Shooter Robin Westman Appears to Have Fled and Is Not Cooperating with Police… and Retained a Criminal Defense Attorney

Mary Grace Westman, the mother of the transgender Minneapolis mass shooter and child killer Robin Westman appears to have fled and is not cooperating with police.

As The Gateway Pundit reported on Wednesday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that a male in his 20s opened fire on children as they attended mass at Annunciation Catholic School, killing at least two children and injuring 14 children and three adults. Police say the shooter was armed with three guns: a rifle, a shotgun, and a handgun.

The shooter was later identified as 23-year-old transgender Robert “Robin” Westman. Westman is deceased.

According to court documents obtained by Fox News, Mary Grace Westman ‘transitioned’ her son and changed his name from Robert to Robin when he was 17.

Via Fox News: According to court docs, at 17-years-old Robert Westman formally had his legal name changed to Robin because docs state the “minor child identifies as female and wants her name to reflect the identification.” The application for a name change of a minor was filed by the mother and a court granted the request in 2020.

After Westman’s mother transitioned him, he wrote in a journal that he was tired of being trans.

“I only keep [the long hair] because it is pretty much my last shred of being trans. I am tired of being trans, I wish I never brain-washed myself,” he wrote, according to a translation by The New York Post.

NIH schemes to keep risky gain-of-function research alive despite Trump crackdown

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) plans to continue creating novel pandemic viruses in apparent defiance of an executive order signed by President Donald Trump calling for a crackdown on the research, according to three government sources involved with the process, who were granted anonymity to avoid government reprisals.

Biosafety hawks have been duking it out with officials at the NIH, the Pentagon and the Department of Homeland Security as an interagency group finalizes Trump’s policy on dangerous gain-of-function (GOF) research — which makes viruses more deadly in the lab. Per the executive order, the policy on federal GOF research is due Sept. 2. Three intelligence agencies have concluded that a lab accident sparked COVID-19.

Former White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy Director Gerry Parker — a biodefense expert who has long been critical of the NIH gain-of-function policies that preceded COVID-19 — led the process of drafting the policy. But Parker resigned this July from the White House after a six month stint, STAT News first reported. Parker confirmed his departure to the Daily Caller News Foundation and said it was due to a personal rather than professional issue.

In the void, inertia has set in. At NIH — where the policy shop has remained unchanged since the Biden administration — a consultant hired by NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya was marginalized as an extremist for pushing for a stricter policy, according to a government source. Ed Hammond, who tracked Fauci’s biodefense buildup for years, was fired from NIH on Aug. 21, he said on X. Hammond declined to comment beyond his tweet.

Another Narrative Busted: Bolton Investigation Began Under Biden

For several days the media has been saying the Trump administration FBI targeted John Bolton, hence the FBI raid on his home and office.  However, the New York Times now outlines how the investigation into John Bolton began during the Biden administration and picked up speed after they received access to his email information from an “adversarial country’s spy service.”

Apparently, John Bolton used an unclassified email system to send information to his friends and allies.  The emails were intercepted.  Bolton was discussing information that appears to have been the outcome of his access to classified information as National Security Advisor.

CTH has previously outlined how John Bolton’s business model was essentially selling information and influence.  This common DC business model seems to have formed the baseline for him to share sensitive, possibly classified information, of greater value.  This does not come as a surprise.

Selling information is the currency of affluence in Washington DC.  That’s why the removal of security clearances is looked upon as devastating within the beltway.  New York Times story below:

NEW YORK TIMES – The investigation into President Trump’s former national security adviser, John R. Bolton, began to pick up momentum during the Biden administration, when U.S. intelligence officials collected information that appeared to show that he had mishandled classified information, according to people familiar with the inquiry.

The United States gathered data from an adversarial country’s spy service, including emails with sensitive information that Mr. Bolton, while still working in the first Trump administration, appeared to have sent to people close to him on an unclassified system, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive case that remains open.

The emails in question, according to the people, were sent by Mr. Bolton and included information that appeared to derive from classified documents he had seen while he was national security adviser. Mr. Bolton apparently sent the messages to people close to him who were helping him gather material that he would ultimately use in his 2020 memoir, “The Room Where It Happened.”

In a sign of the stakes for Mr. Bolton, he is in talks to retain the high-profile criminal defense lawyer Abbe Lowell. Mr. Lowell, who has represented Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Mr. Biden’s son Hunter, is defending two other prominent perceived enemies of Mr. Trump who are now under scrutiny: the New York state attorney general, Letitia James, and Lisa Cook, a member of the Federal Reserve Board. (read more)

At the time of the raid, we noted the activity of Bolton mirrors that of former Senator John McCain (now dead). “An FBI investigation under the auspices of potential violations of the Espionage Act, where Bolton would have leveraged current or prior classified intelligence information as part of his influence business.

Almost identically to former Senator John McCain, John Bolton was well known to intersect with the nation of Qatar as part of his operation.  Qatar has deep pockets and a long-identified influence operation throughout the Middle East, sometimes playing both sides. Qatar is also the playground for the CIA.

While it is yet unknown which nation and which activity Bolton was likely engaged in, the highest probability centers around the deepest pockets, which would also put Bolton on the CIA radar.

The Chicanery Behind Inequality Data

If self-described progressives decry anything more fiercely than poverty, it is income and wealth inequality. Some have even suggested that they would prefer low-income equality to inequality, regardless of how affluent the lowest level was. What counts is the gap.

The terms poor and low-income are relative, of course. We’d be better off talking about the poorer and lower-income. Also, it’s better to be poor in America than anywhere else if we factor in immeasurables such as good prospects. However, some people don’t understand the point or perhaps don’t want to understand it. Reasonable people ask, “How am I doing and how can I do better?” not, “How much less am I making than Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk [but not Taylor Swift or Juan Soto]?”

So let’s talk about inequality—not in the legal and political sense but in terms of income and wealth. You can’t go a day without hearing politicians and commentators complain about the top 1, 10, or 20 percent. Those complaints seem to be backed up by government statisticians and parts of the economics and sociology professions. Dissenters are rarely invited on television and podcasts. The impression given, to which compassionate laypeople will be vulnerable, is that America is riddled with extreme, even obscene (so Bernie Sanders says) inequality. Is it true?

Economists Phil Gramm and Donald Boudreaux make an overwhelming case against it in their book, The Triumph of Economic Freedom: Debunking the Seven Great Myths of American Capitalism. Gross inequality is one of those myths. (Last week I discussed their chapter on poverty.)

“[T]he claim that income inequality in America is high and rising on a secular basis is almost universally accepted as true,” Gramm and Boudreaux report. But: “Census numbers overstate the difference between the top and bottom quintile household incomes by over 300 percent.” Can they back up that claim? Let’s see.

The U.S. Census Bureau tells us that in 2017 the average income of households in the richest quintile (the top 20 percent) was 16.7 times greater than the average in the lowest quintile. No one can say, without other information, whether that number is appropriate or not. But is it accurate?

“The official Census data also show,” Gramm and Boudreaux continue, “that income inequality has grown on a secular basis and, by 2017, was 22.9 percent higher than in 1947.” That’s not all. According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the United States has the worst record on this count among the wealthy countries—and it’s been getting worse.

Let’s pause for a word about the morality of income and wealth inequality. Individuals contribute unequally to the production of wealth, which improves living standards even for those who contribute little or nothing. So why would anyone expect their incomes and wealth to be equal? Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

Gramm and Boudreaux disclose a puzzle about the government’s numbers: “According to the official statistics of the nation’s two leading statistical agencies, the bottom 20 percent of American households had an average income of $13,258 in 2017 yet, in that same year, consumed $26,091 of goods and services.”

This fact raises the obvious question of how the bottom 20 percent of households can consume twice their income. This extraordinary gap between the official measure of income and the official measure of consumption has grown more or less steadily since 1967, when funding for the War on Poverty began to ramp up.”

That indeed is a puzzle. Could it be that the government agencies do not count everything that’s relevant?

NATO state’s president claims Trump a ‘Russian asset’

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has accused US President Donald Trump of only pretending to act as an impartial mediator in the Ukraine conflict, while serving Moscow’s interests and functioning as a “Russian asset.”

Speaking on Wednesday at the Social Democratic Party’s Summer University in Castelo de Vide, Rebelo de Sousa criticized Trump for shifting away from his predecessor’s policy of unconditional support for Kiev.

“The top leader of the world’s greatest superpower is, objectively, a Soviet, or Russian, asset. He functions as an asset,” Rebelo de Sousa stated, as cited by CNN Portugal.

The Portuguese leader further claimed that Trump is less a genuine mediator than an “arbiter who only negotiates with one of the teams,” arguing that Kiev and its EU backers had to “push their way in” to take part in recent talks in Washington.

EU Trying for Regime Change in Hungary Using Zelensky

Viktor Orbán has been a thorn in the paw of the European dictatorship masquerading as a democracy when the people have no right to vote for any leader, and the Parliament, which they do vote for, has no complete democratic control over other EU institutions, especially the European Commission. It can hold hearings, ask questions, and set up committees of inquiry. Most dramatically, it has the power to pass a motion of censure and force the entire European Commission to resign.  It cannot pass laws alone. It can reject proposed legislation entirely, killing the bill. It has done this on numerous occasions, forcing the Commission to go back to the drawing board. However, it has the power to reject the entire annual EU budget. It has no power to alter laws or the budget. It is always an all-or-nothing role.

The European Union has not stripped Hungary of its voting rights over issues related to migrants or Ukraine, but is dying to do so and is now behind closed doors telling Zelensky to create a confrontation with Orban to force Hungary to exit the EU and enter war with Ukraine. On Ukraine’s Independence Day, Zelensky gave Hungary an ultimatum: “You must make a choice.”

US-Israeli scheme for Lebanon includes forced displacement, turning Beirut suburb into ‘refugee camp’: Report

There is a new US plan for a “clampdown” on Beirut’s southern suburb, which could potentially see the area come under the control of a foreign or Arab security force, according to a report released by Al-Akhbar newspaper on 27 August.

The southern suburb, a strong base of support for Hezbollah, was heavily bombarded by Israel during its brutal war on Lebanon last year. The suburb has been repeatedly hit by airstrikes since the ceasefire took effect.

According to Al-Akhbar, the plan aims to “treat the southern suburbs just like Palestinian refugee camps.”

The 1969 Cairo Agreement for years allowed Palestinian groups a degree of autonomy over refugee camps in Lebanon. Despite the agreement being declared null in the 1980s, the status of the camps has remained more or less the same.

However, Lebanese troops maintain checkpoints and a heavy presence around the camps. Palestinian camps in Lebanon have recently begun a symbolic disarmament process in line with the state’s efforts to monopolize control of weapons in the country.

The Al-Akhbar report frames the new US plan as part of Washington’s broader goal of disarming Hezbollah, which the Lebanese government vowed to achieve in a cabinet session in early August.

“The US proposal envisions checkpoints at all entrances [of the Beirut suburb], thorough searches of individuals and vehicles, and a tight control on goods, materials, and money flows. This mission would not be handed to the Lebanese army. Instead, the plan calls for a foreign security force, possibly an Arab one, to take on the task,” it said.

Al-Akhbar also said the plan falls in line with US efforts to “empty the southern border region.”

A recent report by Axios said there is a US plan for a “Trump economic zone” near the southern border, aimed at preventing Hezbollah from re-establishing its presence there. The report said this would happen with the help of Gulf financing.

During a press conference in Lebanon’s Presidential Palace on Tuesday, US envoy Tom Barrack confirmed plans for the economic zone.

“We have to have money coming into the system. The money will come from the Gulf. Qatar and Saudi Arabia are partners and are willing to do that for the south (of Lebanon) if we’re asking a portion of the Lebanese community to give up their livelihood,” Barrack said.

“We have 40,000 people that are being paid by Iran to fight. What are you gonna do with them? Take their weapon and say ‘by the way, good luck planting olive trees?’ It can’t happen. We have to help them,” he added, referring to Hezbollah members.

“We, all of us, the Gulf, the US, the Lebanese are all gonna act together to create an economic forum that is gonna produce a livelihood,” he went on to say.

This economic zone reportedly serves as an ethnic cleansing plan to remove residents of the southern border villages and prevent the return of those already displaced from there.

Lebanese MP and former head of Lebanon’s General Security Directorate Jamil al-Sayyed said in a post last week that “Envoy Tom Barrack has received the Israeli response to his mediation over the south.”
