Remarks from Lisa Belcastro, the coordinator for Martha’s Vineyard homeless shelter Harbor Homes, went viral Thursday after she was asked about 50 illegal immigrants arriving on the island.
Belcastro’s remarks come after Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis sent the illegal immigrants to the island off the coast of Massachusetts on Wednesday.
“Yes, Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” an official for DeSantis’ office said in a statement. “States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country’ by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”
“In this past legislative session the Florida Legislature appropriated $12 million to implement a program to facilitate the transport of illegal immigrants from this state consistent with federal law,” the official added.
The 50 illegal immigrants landing on the small island, where ultrawealthy progressives like former President Barack Obama live, sent the political Left into meltdown mode, with some falsely claiming that DeSantis had created “an ethnic cleansing program.”
Millions of illegal immigrants have poured into the U.S. under President Joe Biden, particularly into southern states, but the media and the political Left have shown less interest in addressing the humanitarian and national security crisis that has erupted under Biden.
When Belcastro was asked Thursday about what the “most difficult challenges” were that the island faced from the arrival of the 50 illegal immigrants, she responded: “The difficult challenges are, we have, at some point in time they have to move from here to somewhere else.”
“We cannot, we don’t have the services to take care of 50 immigrants,” she continued. “And we certainly don’t have housing. We’re in a housing crisis as we are on this island. And we don’t, we can’t house everyone here that lives here and work here. We don’t have housing for 50 more people.”

In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation” Warner suggested that the largely unarmed group of soccer moms and Joe Sixpacks who stormed the capitol that day — are a larger threat than the folks who murdered thousands on 9/11.
“I remember, as most Americans do, where they were on 9/11. I was in the middle of a political campaign and suddenly, the differences with my opponent seem very small in comparison and our country came together,” he said. “The stunning thing to me is here we are 20 years later, and the attack on the symbol of our democracy was not coming from terrorists, but it came from literally insurgents attacking the Capitol on Jan. 6.”
“I believe our intelligence community has performed remarkably. I think the threat of terror has diminished,” he said. “But I do worry about some of the activity in this country where the election deniers, the insurgency that took place on Jan. 6, that is something I hope we could see that same kind of unity of spirit.”
Despite the senator’s fear mongering and rhetoric, the vast majority of these folks weren’t domestic terrorists and judging by the lack of damage caused to the Capitol building and grounds, they weren’t much of a riotous mob either. The idea that Trump and his MAGA followers had any chance of overthrowing the U.S. government, or even that they thought they could, was a delusion. This was evidenced by the fact that thousands of them refused to even break the DC law that prohibits guns in the area.

One of the weirdest, most insane things happening today is the way the entire western world is being trained to freak out about “Russian propaganda” — which barely exists in the west — while ignoring the fact that we are spending every day marinating in billions of dollars worth of US empire propaganda.
CNN has an article out titled “Darya Dugina’s death provides a glimpse into Russia’s vast disinformation machine — and the influential women fronting it” on the recently assassinated daughter of Alexander Dugin, a Russian political thinker of wildly exaggerated influence.
The article uses Dugina’s assassination to further stoke its audience’s ever-growing panic about Russian disinformation, quickly becoming a commentary on Russia’s entire propaganda network without bothering to articulate how Dugina’s death “provides a glimpse” into its workings.
Without the slightest hint of self-reflection or irony, this CNN article about Russian propaganda cites as its two main experts a think tanker from the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensic Research Lab and a think tanker from the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA). The Atlantic Council is a NATO narrative management firm that is funded by NATO, the US government, the UK government, various other US-aligned states, the arms industry, and numerous billionaires. CEPA’s donor list looks similar to the Atlantic Council’s and includes US arms manufacturers and the US government through both the US State Department and the CIA cutout National Endowment for Democracy. Both are used to promote the information interests of the US-centralized power alliance in Europe and North America.
As we’ve discussed previously, the way news media cite corrupt warmongering think tanks to discuss foreign policy without ever mentioning their immense conflicts of interests is plainly journalistic malpractice. But this practice is ubiquitous throughout the western news media, the because western news media are propaganda outlets.

Harrison Ford, a famous Hollywood actor, has frequently traveled via private jet in recent months despite his well-known climate change activism.
Ford’s private jet, a multimillion-dollar Cessna Citation Sovereign, has made at least eight trips stretching roughly 5,284 miles and emitting about 35 metric tons of carbon dioxide in less than two months, according to data from ADS-B Exchange and Celebrity Jets. [bold, links added]
Ford, however, has made regular appearances at global climate conferences, calling upon individuals and government leaders to support efforts to reduce emissions and prevent disastrous global warming.
“It’s hard to read the headlines — floods, fires, famines, plagues — and tell your children that everything is alright,” he remarked at a conservation summit in France last year.
“It’s not alright. Damn it, it’s not alright. It’s alright to feel frustration, anxiety, grief, but don’t run away from it. Cry out for justice, justice for mother nature.”
“The Earth has irreplaceable ecosystems rich in carbon and biodiversity,” he continued. “By preserving just a small fraction of these wetlands, tropical forests, and mangroves, we can protect our wildlife, our air, water, food jobs, and climate.”
Ford added that a younger generation of climate activists has the energy and conscience to do “what we have not yet been able to do.”
“If we don’t stop the destruction of the natural world, nothing else will matter,” Ford said during a separate speech at the 2020 Global Climate Action Summit.
But Ford’s jet has emitted more carbon into the environment in less than two months than the average American burns every two years and the average person worldwide burns every nine years.
The average carbon footprint of an American is 16 tons a year while the average person worldwide burns about 4 tons a year, according to The Nature Conservancy.
