Drug Enforcement Leads To Increases In Violence, Report Published By UK Government Concludes

Drug-related law enforcement is more likely to increase violence than reduce it, indicates a report commissioned by the government of the United Kingdom. Whether the government will revise its drug policies accordingly remains to be seen.

“The available evidence suggests that drug-related law enforcement activities are of limited effectiveness in reducing violence,” states the report, which was prepared by the research organization RAND Europe and published by the UK Home Office on March 27. “Indeed, more studies demonstrated an association between drug-related law enforcement activities and increased violence than decreased violence.”

The findings, which echo earlier evidence on the subject, are less startling than the fact that the UK government published them. The report references a prior review on the impact of drug-related law enforcement activity on serious violence and homicide, which, it notes, “found that increasing drug law enforcement was unlikely to reduce drug market violence alone and risked exacerbating it.”

The report urges British police forces planning drug-related law enforcement actions to “consider the risk of increased violence,” particularly related to the removal of leaders of trafficking groups and drug seizures.

“The counterproductive nature of drug law enforcement has been very obvious for a long time,” Steve Rolles, senior policy analyst at the Transform Drug Policy Foundation, told Filter. “The war on drugs has fueled an arms race between law enforcement agencies and organized crime groups—ensuring only the most cunning and  violent crime groups prosper.”

Nonetheless, he continued, “It is welcome to see the systemic failure of the enforcement model confirmed by academic work commissioned and published by the Home Office itself. It certainly makes it a lot harder for them to ignore.”

The Home Office, which is responsible for areas including public safety, policing and border security in the UK, did not respond to Filter’s request for comment on whether it would act on the report’s recommendations.

Former police officers are among those who have long warned that the disruption of drug markets increases violence, as trafficking groups fight over resultant power vacuums when established hierarchies are disturbed by seizures and arrests.

“For years I’ve been arguing that no police activity in drug markets reduces the size of the market,” Neil Woods told Filter. A former undercover police officer, he changed his mind about the drug enforcement actions he once participated in. He now chairs the Law Enforcement Action Partnership UK, which campaigns to end the drug war.

“This kind of study should not just be of niche interest, it should inform policy,” he said. “We are talking about the very fabric of security and safety in our society.”

Police disruption of drug markets also increases the risk of overdose among people who use drugs, Woods added, citing a 2023 study, published in the American Journal of Public Health, which illustrated this. In what has been described as “the drug bust paradox,” the arrest of a person’s source of drugs can lead them to experience withdrawal and hastily seek a new source—who might provide drugs that are adulterated or of higher potency.

Woke White Teacher Filmed Beating Asian Student Wearing MAGA Cap Fired from Washington State University

On a chilly February night in 2025, Jay Sani, an Indian-American student at Washington State University, stepped out of a bar wearing his red MAGA hat. The 28-year-old engineering student didn’t expect the night to take a violent turn, but it did.

According to reports, as Jay walked, two figures approached him.  Patrick Mahoney, a university instructor and vocal proponent of Palestinian causes, and Gerald Hoff, a graduate student and teaching assistant.

It is unclear what sparked the confrontation, but words were exchanged and, as seen on security footage, Mahoney lunged at Jay, ripping the hat from his head. Hoff joined in, and Jay was shoved to the ground as fists flew.

The security footage shows the two men throwing Sani to the ground, and while he lay bleeding, kicking him while he was defenseless.

Sani reported the incident to police and, when questioned, Mahoney and Hoff admitted to the attack, though they attempted to blame Sani for the attack, claiming the student “provoked” them.

Former Marijuana Prisoners Who Got Clemency From Trump Hold Event Outside White House To Request Relief For Those Still Behind Bars

Former marijuana prisoners who received clemency from President Donald Trump during his first term staged an event outside the White House on Thursday, expressing gratitude for the relief they were given and calling on the new administration to grant the same kind of help to others who are still behind bars for cannabis.

Flanked by cardboard cutouts of individuals pardoned or granted commutations by Trump, activists impacted by criminalization stood outside the White House with a message to “free all cannabis prisoners.”

The grassroots “Cannabis Prisoners Unity Day” called attention to the opportunity to build upon the executive-level relief. In addition to Trump’s clemency actions in his first term, former President Joe Biden also pardoned and commuted sentences for hundreds of people while he was in office. But numerous people remain behind bars over non-violent federal cannabis convictions.

“President Trump, we are your example of a victory,” Craig Cesal—who received a commutation for a life sentence he was handed down in 2002 for a marijuana distribution conviction—said during a panel discussion ahead of the White House meetup.

How do they pick such poster boys — boost them up as noble worker-saints just minding their own business only to be persecuted by President Trump, then rally the media to repeat the ridiculous narrative, until of course, it falls apart with the police records? After all, there were quite a few they could have chosen from to make their next hero — the Venezuelan gay “hairdresser,” the soccer player who was said to have been beaten up by the Maduro regime, several others. How did they pick Abrego-Garcia for congressional delegations to San Salvador, extensive media coverage, and all that?

Man Whose Death Sentence Was Commuted by Biden in 2024 Indicted for First-Degree Murder of 12-Year-Old Girl

Thomas Steven Sanders, a convicted child murderer whose federal death sentence was commuted by Joe Biden in December 2024 through his autopen, has been indicted for first-degree murder by a Louisiana grand jury.​

Sanders was originally sentenced to death in 2014 for the 2010 kidnapping and murder of 12-year-old Lexis Roberts of Las Vegas.

He had taken Lexis and her mother, Suellen Roberts, on a trip to the Grand Canyon, during which he murdered Suellen in Arizona and then brought Lexis to Louisiana, where he killed her in Catahoula Parish.

Despite his federal conviction and death sentence, Biden commuted Sanders’ sentence to life imprisonment without parole as part of a broader move affecting 37 of the 40 inmates on federal death row.

Now, the state of Louisiana is seeking to impose its own justice.

A Catahoula Parish Grand Jury indicted Sanders for the state-level murder of Lexis Roberts.

District Attorney Bradley Burget announced that his office will seek the death penalty, emphasizing that Biden’s federal commutation does not affect state prosecution, KALB reported.

“Biden’s action to commute the federal death penalty will have no effect on the state prosecution of Sanders,” Burget stated per The Democrat.

Thomas Steven Sanders is the third individual granted clemency to end up back behind bars.

Attorney General Releases Police Records Detailing Abrego Garcia’s Criminal History

On Wednesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi released police records showing Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, the “Maryland man” who was deported to his native El Salvador by the Trump administration, was in fact a member of MS-13 and was in the United States illegally.

Contrary to the assertions of Garcia’s lawyers (and many in the corporate press) that there’s no evidence he’s a member of MS-13 and that the cops just made it all up, the police affidavit from Garcia’s arrest in March 2019 shows that Garcia was arrested with multiple other confirmed MS-13 gang members, was wearing clothing associated with the gang, and was identified by a confidential police informant as a confirmed MS-13 gang member with a rank and a moniker.

Here’s what the police record said. Garcia and three other men were arrested outside a Home Depot by Hyattsville City Police in Maryland, and as police approached them, “two of the individuals reached into their waistbands and discarded several unknown items under a parked vehicle,” according to the affidavit. One of the men, Christhyan Hernandez-Romero, was immediately recognized by police as a member of the MS-13 Sailors Clique. Hernandez-Romero, police said, “has an extensive criminal history for multiple assault, concealing dangerous weapon, burglary and many other offenses.” They even knew his rank and moniker, which was “Bimbo.”

Another of the men, Jose Guillermo Dominguez, was covered in MS-13 gang tattoos and was identified by “a past proven and reliable source” as an active MS-13 gang member with the rank of “Chequeo” and the moniker “Maniaco.”

As for Garcia, police recognized his clothing as “indicative of Hispanic gang culture,” and that he was a “member in good standing with the MS-13.” The same confidential informant told police that Garcia had the rank of “Chequeo” and the moniker “Chele.” In addition, the arrest record shows that Garcia was by his own admission an illegal alien from El Salvador who had entered the U.S. by walking across the border near McAllen, Texas, in March 2012. At the time of his arrest in Maryland while loitering outside a Home Depot, he had $1,178 in cash on him. Several plastic bottles containing marijuana were also found near the men after their arrest. 

The fourth man was released after police were unable to determine his gang affiliation, which calls into serious question the claim by Garcia’s lawyers that the cops were just making up his affiliation with MS-13. If so, why didn’t they do so with this fourth man?

This police record is likely what multiple immigration judges, as well as the Board of Immigration Appeals, relied on when finding that “the evidence shows that he [Garcia] is a verified member of MS-13.”

‘Free Melo’: Karmelo Anthony’s friends, family sell merch in support of Austin Metcalf’s admitted killer

Friends and relatives of 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, the Texas high school student accused of fatally stabbing another teen, are promoting t-shirts with his face on them with slogans like “FreeMelo” and “#Justice4KarmeloAnthony.” When he was taken into custody after the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf at a Frisco High School track meet, Anthony admitted that he was the killer.

A website selling the shirts describes Anthony as “just a small town kid, raised in a loving two parent household,” and goes on to paint a portrait of him as a model youth.

“Karmelo, A 4.0 student. A football team captain. A leader, a protector, a role model. Karmelo Anthony is the kind of young man every parent hopes to raise. He speaks with respect. He takes care of his younger siblings and little cousins. He works hard, stays out of trouble, and carries himself with dignity,” the website states.

Anthony was arrested earlier this month after authorities said he stabbed fellow student Austin Metcalf during a confrontation at a high school track meet. According to police, the dispute began when Metcalf told Anthony he was sitting under the wrong team’s tent and asked him to leave. A witness claimed Anthony replied, “Touch me and see what happens,” before the altercation turned physical. Metcalf was fatally stabbed and died in the arms of his twin brother.

Anthony has been under house arrest in a $900,000 rental home located in a gated community, having been released on a $250,000 bond that was reduced from $1 million. The Daily Mail reported that the family also recently acquired a new vehicle. In court, Anthony’s father said they intended to use the crowdsourced legal funds to move house amid “racist threats.”

A press release from the Department of Justice notes that the communications were sent between March 29 and April 1, 2025.

Screenshots of the texts included in the arrest affidavit show the extent of the demented threats, which are clearly of an extreme Islamist nature.

Karmelo Anthony living with family in $900K home in gated community, bought new car after release on bond in Austin Metcalf murder case: report

The Texas teen accused of fatally stabbing a high school football star at a track meet allegedly lives in a $900,000 home with his family inside a luxurious gated community — despite requesting that a judge lower his $1 million bond because of financial difficulties, according to a report.

Karmelo Anthony, 17, is holed up with his family at the pricey home inside the gated community of Richwoods in Frisco, Texas, after he was released from jail Monday on a reduced $250,000 bond for allegedly killing Austin Metcalf earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported.

The home — where rent is estimated to be $3,500 a month — had a white Suburban, a black Acura, and a third sedan in the driveway on Tuesday, according to the outlet.

A neighbor said the family had just bought a new ride.

“He got a new car,” the resident told the outlet. “If you look at the license plate, it’s got a paper tag and it says it expires June 4.”

Richwoods is about a mile from Centennial High School, where Anthony went to school and ran track.

Residents in the gated community were allegedly unaware the family was living at the home until Anthony was released Monday, and have voiced concerns about having the accused killer in their exclusive neighborhood.

“Not good. Not good. I don’t think he should be out,” an anonymous mother in the neighborhood told the Daily Mail.
