“I’ve been here before”: DMT study explores a strange memory phenomenon

If you take a psychedelic drug that can throttle your conscious perception into an otherworldly space where people often report encountering beings that are unlike anything on Earth, the last thing you would expect to feel is the sense that this all seems pretty familiar. But that’s precisely what some people report after taking the world’s strongest psychedelic: DMT.

“It felt like I had been reunited with everything, like I was complete again,” psychiatrist Dr. Chloe Sakal told Freethink in 2021 while describing a DMT experience she had as a participant in a study that examined the drug’s effects on the brain. “I no longer knew I was in an MRI scanner. My entire reality was very different — really colorful, really vibrant. And I couldn’t even remember that I was in a study. I was in a different dimension.”

Online reports from the r/DMT subreddit convey similarly intense and familiar experiences. “I was beyond time and matter and had no sense of identity whatsoever,” wrote one person. “I definitely felt this common thing like I was ‘at home,’ that I have already been there, and that I will go there again.”

AI search of Neanderthal proteins resurrects ‘extinct’ antibiotics

Bioengineers have used artificial intelligence (AI) to bring molecules back from the dead1.

To perform this molecular ‘de-extinction’, the researchers applied computational methods to data about proteins from both modern humans (Homo sapiens) and our long-extinct relatives, Neanderthals (Homo neanderthalensis) and Denisovans. This allowed the authors to identify molecules that can kill disease-causing bacteria — and that could inspire new drugs to treat human infections.

“We’re motivated by the notion of bringing back molecules from the past to address problems that we have today,” says Cesar de la Fuente, a co-author of the study and a bioengineer at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. The study was published on 28 July in Cell Host & Microbe1.

Joe Biden to ask Congress to fund Taiwan arms via Ukraine budget

The White House will ask Congress to fund arms for Taiwan as part of a supplemental budget request for Ukraine, in an effort to speed up the supply of weapons to the country amid the rising threat from China. The Office of Management and Budget will include funding for Taiwan in the supplemental request as part of an effort to accelerate the provision of weapons, according to two people familiar with the plan. If passed by Congress, Taiwan would get arms through a US taxpayer-funded system known as “foreign military financing” for the first time. The White House is expected to submit the request this month. The request comes on the heels of a White House announcement that the US would supply Taiwan with $345mn in weapons from stockpiles for the first time, under a system known as “presidential drawdown authority” that has been used to send weapons to Ukraine. The decision to include Taiwan funding in the supplemental budget and use PDA to supply weapons underscores a rising urgency to help Taipei. Critics of the current Taiwan strategy have urged Washington to supply weapons more quickly as China increases military activity around the country. “This would be a monumental step that signals how far the US government is now willing to go to accelerate deterrence across the Taiwan Strait,” said Eric Sayers, managing director at Beacon Global Strategies, a Washington consultancy. “For decades we have chosen to only sell Taiwan military equipment but now . . . we are seeing both the tools of drawdown authority and foreign military financing be deployed, just as they have been so successful in Ukraine,” Sayers added.

Luzio, who lived in São Paulo 10,000 years ago, was Amerindian like Indigenous people now, DNA reveals

An article published on July 31 in Nature Ecology & Evolution reveals that Luzio, the oldest human skeleton found in São Paulo state (Brazil), was a descendant of the ancestral population that settled the Americas at least 16,000 years ago and gave rise to all present-day Indigenous peoples, such as the Tupi.

Based on the largest set of Brazilian archaeological genomic data, the study reported in the article also offers an explanation for the disappearance of the oldest coastal communities, the residents of which built the icons of Brazilian archaeology known as “sambaquis,” huge mounds of shells and fishbones used as dwellings, cemeteries and territorial boundaries. Archaeologists often refer to these monuments as shell mounds or kitchen middens.

“After the Andean civilizations, the Atlantic coast sambaqui builders were the human phenomenon with the highest demographic density in pre-colonial South America. They were the ‘kings of the coast’ for thousands and thousands of years. They vanished suddenly about 2,000 years ago,” said André Menezes Strauss, an archaeologist at the University of São Paulo’s Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology (MAE-USP) and principal investigator for the study.

The authors analyzed the genomes of 34 samples from four different areas of Brazil’s coast. The fossils were at least 10,000 years old. They came from sambaquis and other parts of eight sites (Cabeçuda, Capelinha, Cubatão, Limão, Jabuticabeira II, Palmeiras Xingu, Pedra do Alexandre and Vau Una).

This material included Luzio, São Paulo’s oldest skeleton, found in the Capelinha river midden in the Ribeira de Iguape valley by a group led by Levy Figuti, a professor at MAE-USP. The morphology of its skull is similar to that of Luzia, the oldest human fossil found to date in South America, dating from about 13,000 years ago. The researchers thought it might have belonged to a biologically different population from present-day Amerindians, who settled in what is now Brazil some 14,000 years ago, but it turns out they were mistaken.

“Genetic analysis showed Luzio to be an Amerindian, like the Tupi, Quechua or Cherokee. That doesn’t mean they’re all the same, but from a global perspective, they all derive from a single migratory wave that arrived in the Americas not more than 16,000 years ago. If there was another population here 30,000 years ago, it didn’t leave descendants among these groups,” Strauss said.

Luzio’s DNA also answered another question. River middens are different from coastal ones, so the find cannot be considered a direct ancestor of the huge classical sambaquis that appeared later. This discovery suggests there were two distinct migrations—into the hinterland and along the coast.

Innocent Man Beaten to Death in Jail After Being Sentenced to a Decade for Having Kratom

Last week, the Free Thought Project delved into the deeply unsettling story of Shaina Brown, an Alabama resident facing a potential life sentence over the mere possession of kratom. In our coverage, we touched upon the tragic case of Marshall Price, another victim of the merciless war on drugs. This week, we continue our exposé by shifting our focus to Price’s case, highlighting the gruesome realities of this ongoing war on a widely beneficial plant.

Before moving into the details of Marshall’s story, it is important to point out the massive disinformation campaign waged by the media and the government over this plant. A recent story out of Florida is gaining traction and serves as a perfect example of this propaganda after a judge awarded the family of Krystal Talavera $11 million in a lawsuit. Talavera, who had life-threatening pre-existing conditions, died after ingesting a substance in a baggy that had “Space Dust” written on it with a sharpy. This is “kratom,” according to the media, which is unwilling to do even 30 seconds of research to find out the truth.

The court ruled that Talavera died from kratom, and the media ran with it. But this was simply not the case. Talavera ingested a highly potent and concentrated alkaloid extract of the kratom plant, not kratom leaves. This is the equivalent of extracting lethal doses of caffeine from the coffee bean and calling it “coffee.”

House Speaker McCarthy Spotted at Bohemian Grove

The intimate connection between secret societies and the nation’s political elite is as strong as ever.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was among those present at this year’s infamous meeting of the secretive Bohemian Club at the Bohemian Grove campground in Monte Rio, California.

Known as much for its eyebrow-raising occult-tinged rituals as for its luminary member roster, the male-only Bohemian Club has hosted business titans (William Randolph Hearst, the Rockefellers) and presidents (Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon). It was reportedly the place where J. Robert Oppenheimer first discussed the Manhattan project.

Donald Trump is notably one major power player who is not known to be involved with the Bohemian Club. But he was a major topic of conversation at the group’s July meeting last week.

As Politico reports:

At The Bohemian Grove, the secretive conclave of men who gather in Northern California, the attendance was a Who’s Who of pre-Trump Republicans, a murderer’s row of bundlers and Wall Street Journal editorial page favorites including former House Speaker Paul Ryan and ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, as my colleague Ryan Lizza reported. With fear setting in about Trump’s re-nomination, the gathering became something of a fantasy camp on how to avert that prospect or at least confront it. One name that came up as a potential apolitical independent nominee was retired Admiral William McRaven, the former special operations commander who became chancellor of the University of Texas.

Politico further reported that, per sources in attendance at Bohemian Grove, McCarthy spoke favorably of Trump, expressing confidence that he will claim the GOP nomination for the presidency.

At Bohemian Grove, the world’s rich and powerful dress in ceremonial garb, chant around a bonfire, and burn a child in effigy in the presence of a large owl-shaped idol.

The group was started after the Civil War by Henry Harry Edwards, originally as a club for artists, writers, journalists, and other “Bohemians” to get together and relax. Since then, though, the outfit has grown to include more than 2,500 of the world’s elites.

The Bohemian Club, like other major secret societies, has an agenda of furthering globalism. At the United Nations’ founding conference in 1945, UN delegates and key dignitaries were invited to Bohemian Grove for a special program.

During their time at Bohemian Grove, members are known to walk around the forest in the nude inebriated and urinating at will throughout the camp.

Mystery as Goldman Sachs analyst John Castic, 27, vanishes after ‘Zeds Dead’ concert at iconic NYC venue Brooklyn Mirage – weeks after another man was found dead after being turned away from site for ‘drinking alcohol’

A frantic search is underway for a missing Goldman Sachs analyst who was last seen in the early hours of Sunday leaving a Brooklyn nightclub.

John Castic, 27, from Chicago, told friends at the Brooklyn Mirage club he was getting an Uber home to his apartment in Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

It remains unclear whether he ever called or took an Uber, but he never arrived home, and his friends raised the alarm on Sunday.

Castic graduated from DePaul University and begun working as a senior analyst at Goldman Sachs in August 2022.

Castic and his friends had been to see the Canadian electronic duo Zeds Dead.

His final photo, shared by a friend, shows him arriving at their front door at 9pm, before heading to the gig on the edge of Brooklyn’s neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Bushwick.

His friends say he left the venue at 2:30am.

One person on Reddit claimed that there had been crowds of unlicensed cab drivers hovering around the area, and speculated Castic could have got in one of their vehicles to try and get home.

Police initially refused to raise the alarm, they said, because he did not have any known mental health issues, but by Monday evening had assigned a detective to the case.

On Tuesday a group of his friends plan on meeting outside the club and scouring the area.

General, West Point Professor Ran Shadow Investigation to Hunt Down and Silence Military Whistleblower for Mean Tweets

An Army three-star general and a West Point associate professor used government resources in an unofficial investigation to hunt down and punish an anonymous active-duty whistleblower who criticized Army leaders and the Biden administration on social media, according to private emails and text messages obtained exclusively by Breitbart News.

Army Training and Doctrine Command Deputy Commander Lt. Gen. Maria Gervais and Army Maj. Jessica Dawson — who is also an “information warfare research scientist” at the Army Cyber Institute — used their official authority and access to government resources to track down the whistleblower and get him identified publicly and punished by his chain of command.

Despite the lack of evidence, they repeatedly accused the whistleblower of being a “counterintelligence” and “insider threat” in a seeming effort to trigger action by Army Criminal Investigative Division (CID) — an independent federal law enforcement agency with expansive powers designed to investigate serious felonies.

Pat Wier, a civilian defense attorney and Navy reservist, said a CID investigation would require an assumption or designation of a serious threat and called Gervais and Dawson’s trumping up of accusations for exercising free speech rights “wrongful.”

“His alleged actions did not rise to the level of a serious crime, or any crime at all,” he said.

Rather, it appeared to be an attempt by rogue military officials seeking to use the levers of government to punish political dissent.

Project Veritas releases tape in which Ashley Biden appears to claim ownership of infamous diary

Investigative news outlet Project Veritas on Monday released an audio recording in which Ashley Biden appears to confirm her ownership and the authenticity of a diary that fell into the outlet’s possession.

Veritas first obtained the diary after tipsters called the outlet, claiming they obtained the diary and other materials that the president’s daughter left in a room. They also claimed that the diary contained damaging allegations on the then-presidential candidate.

While the outlet maintains that it obtained the diary through legal means and ultimately opted against publishing its contents, the Department of Justice investigated the matter on claims the diary was stolen and subsequently raided the homes of three Veritas journalists.

The audio recordings, previously unreleased, include the original voicemail that the tipster left to Veritas as well as the conversation the outlet had with Ashley Biden.

“So I heard you have a few of my belongings,” Biden says to the Veritas journalist in the phone call on Oct. 8, 2020.

“There’s a diary here…” the journalist states. Biden then directs them to hand over the materials to one “Eric” and subsequently indicates a preference for not involving Secret Service in the matter.”I am Ashley Biden. It is my stuff,” she states on the call. Biden also confirms her ownership of a bag with luggage tags.
