The Phoenix Lights: 28 years later, the mystery endures

On the night of March 13, 1997, thousands of Arizonans looked up and saw something they couldn’t explain—a massive, V-shaped formation of lights hovering in the sky.

Twenty-eight years later, the Phoenix Lights remain one of the most infamous UFO sightings in U.S. history, fueling speculation, debate, and ongoing scientific curiosity.

Among those who witnessed the phenomenon firsthand was Dr. Lynne Kitei, a former medical professional who was so profoundly impacted that she left her career in medicine to study the lights full-time.

“They have become the most witnessed, the most documented, the most anomalous aerial sighting in modern history, if not all of history,” said Kitei, founder of the Phoenix Lights Network.

Kitei recalls the day vividly, describing how two lower orbs appeared to hover motionlessly.

“It was just bizarre. Again, I’m a healthy skeptic, but I was seeing something that was so extraordinary.”

While some, like Kitei, are convinced that the lights were something beyond our current understanding, others believe there is a more earthly explanation.

Chris Impey, an astronomy professor at the University of Arizona, points out that the southwest sees an unusually high UFO reports—coinciding with the region’s large number of Air Force bases, frequent military flights, and clear skies.

“You know, the Southwest generates a lot of UFO sightings, and it’s not coincidental,” Impey explained. He says he tends to believe the more conventional theory that the Phoenix Lights could have been A-10 aircraft flying in a chevron formation, followed by military flares.

And sometimes, he adds, people may just be seeing the planet Venus.

“After sunset, you’ll see it low on the horizon, and with atmospheric effects, it might look like it’s moving or hovering. That’s a classic UFO sighting.”

Kitei, however, remains unconvinced.

“The impact it made on the witnesses themselves is so compelling,” she said. “It cannot be explained.”

The UFO Disclosure Hopes That Fizzled: How Momentum Under Trump Has Stalled For Now

It wasn’t supposed to be this way.

For some time, relationships had been carefully cultivated with members of the new Trump administration.

Lue Elizondo, Former head of the Pentagon’s UAP investigation program, AATIP (Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program) had even made multiple appearances on Donald Trump Jr.’s podcast

Key positions were filled by individuals who had previously advocated for greater transparency on Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP).

Notably, the newly appointed Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, even appears in a documentary film exploring what is claimed to be the greatest cover-up of all time—one involving multiple groups of non-human intelligence.

Under the Trump administration, it had been expected that a key appointment would be made within the National Security Council to orchestrate the disclosure of UAP information.

For once, we were set to see the full muscle of the White House backing UAP transparency.

After all, that had been the plan from day one of the modern disclosure effort, but under a President Hillary Clinton.

But she lost. And so too, was her promise to “open the files as much as we can.”

The man who currently occupies the White House – who triumphed over Clinton – President Trump, has himself acknowledged receiving briefings on UAP.

When asked by podcaster Lex Fridman whether he would push the Pentagon to release more UAP footage, President Trump responded enthusiastically: “Oh yeah sure I’ll do that, I would do that, I’d love to do that, I have to do that.”

So far, there has been no public effort to release such footage, in contrast to the declassification of records related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Senator Robert F. Kennedy, and Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—campaign promises Trump pursued through executive orders.

FOIA-Released Emails Mention Alleged Triangular UAP Photo; Former UAP Task Force Director Speaks Out

Newly released documents obtained by The Black Vault through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) under case 21-F-0299 reveal email exchanges within the Department of Defense (DoD) discussing a photograph reportedly showing a triangular Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP) emerging from the ocean. The FOIA request was originally filed in December 2020. Along with these documents, John “Jay” Stratton, former Director of the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (UAPTF), has now spoken exclusively to The Black Vault about this claim, offering brand-new clarification that no such photograph depicting a triangular craft emerging from the ocean was ever received by the UAPTF.

The long-rumored photograph in question gained significant attention following a December 2020 article by The Debrief, which described an “extremely clear” image of a large triangular object with rounded edges and white spherical lights in each corner. According to the article, the photograph was allegedly taken in 2019 by an F/A-18 fighter pilot after the object emerged from the ocean and ascended vertically. The story quickly became one of the most talked-about pieces of evidence that the DoD was allegedly withholding, with references by public figures such as Luis Elizondo which fueled widespread discussion across social media.

The FOIA-released emails, dated December 3 and 4, 2020, show internal communication within the DoD discussing The Debrief article. In one email addressed to Susan Gough (her name is redacted in the “to:” line but not in the body of the email), someone (name redacted) from the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations (DCNO) office states, “Jay [Stratton] tells me the photo is part of the active investigation, so it would probably be withheld from release for that reason.”

From Farmland to Deserts to Mountainsides: Lesser-Known UFO Crashes from Around the Planet

Most of us, even those outside of the UFO community, will almost certainly have heard of the Roswell UFO crash in July 1947, even if there is debate as to whether it was an otherworldly vehicle that crashed in the desert in New Mexico. The fact is, though, there are many other claims of vehicles from elsewhere crashlanding on Earth, and what’s more, these mystifying and baffling events are not at all limited to the United States but are on record in locations right around the planet.

As is usually the case with such a huge subject, while we will not have time nor space to explore every alleged crash of an alien vehicle – even briefly – we will examine some of the most intriguing and thought-provoking, not to mention some of the most credible. Ultimately, what will become apparent as we negotiate our way through these remarkable and enthralling cases is that something out of the ordinary has been taking place around the world for decades, if not longer, and it could very well be in our collective interests to find out what that something is.

A good place to start is with an apparent legitimate case of a downed UFO that came to light through forged documents. It is one of several intriguing cases investigated by the late British UFO investigator Tony Dodd. The account was detailed in Dodd’s book, Alien Investigator: The Case Files of Britain’s Leading UFO Detective, and is one that Dodd claimed was at least as important as the more famous Roswell crash that occurred four decades previously. Moreover, as well as the wreckage, which was seemingly recovered by the South African military, the craft’s occupants were also recovered, each of which was still alive.

The Vatican and UFOs: Is there a secret about aliens hidden in the Pope’s mysterious archives?

For centuries, the Vatican’s Secret Archive has been the subject of fascination for scholars.

They have wondered just what revelations are lying hidden in documents stored on what now consists of more than 50miles of shelves underground.

In 2020, Pope Francis opened up the files related to the papacy of the controversial Pope Pius XII, allowing researchers the chance to discover why he remained silent about the Nazi Holocaust.

But one claim that we might never know the truth of is the one made by former Pentagon official David Grusch in 2023, that Pius tipped off the US about an alien spacecraft that had crashed in Italy in the 1930s.

He also alleged, in his interview with US cable network News Nation, that the Vatican ‘certainly’ knew about the existence of non-human intelligences on Earth.

The claim was music to the ears of those who have long sought access to the Vatican’s archives in the hope they may contain information about UFOs.

Former UFO investigator Nick Pope, who worked for the Ministry of Defence until 2006, told MailOnline: ‘There have been persistent rumours that the Catholic Church knows some big secrets about UFOs, and that these forbidden truths might be hidden somewhere in the Vatican archives, accessible only by the Pope, a select few Cardinals, and other key personnel.’

Diana Walsh Pasulka, the author of 2019 bestseller American Cosmic: UFOs, Religion, Technology, has previously said that the archives are ‘filled’ with records of the paranormal – so the possibility that they might too contain UFO revelations has excited many.

JFK assassination task force to reveal findings on UFOs, Area 51 and pledges Americans will get ‘the truth’

A top Republican lawmaker overseeing DOGE’s sweeping changes in Congress has vowed that Americans will soon get ‘the truth’ about UFOs and what secrets are hidden at Area 51.

House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-K.Y., this month created a task force to unveil long-kept government secrets of massive public interest.

His group is a direct response to Donald Trump’s executive order to declassify secrets like the JFK assassination files, intelligence on Martin Luther King Jr.’s murder, and also the killing of Robert Kennedy.

Trump has also pushed for the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein‘s death in prison and information on UFOs, also called unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).

During the roll out of the new task force earlier this month its leader Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, standing next to Comer, said the group will uncover files on JFK’s assassination – which she believes involved multiple shooters – and UAP.

Speaking with Daily Mail’s podcast Welcome to MAGAland at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) this week, Comer, for the first time, committed to investigating and – possibly releasing – files on Area 51 as a part of Trump’s new mandate.

‘I don’t think the government’s been 100 percent truthful with the American people about what may or may not exist out there, especially in Area 51,’ Comer said in an exclusive interview, which was previewed on Daily Mail’s podcast Welcome to MAGAland

UFO alert in Türkiye’s Gaziantep: Flights halted

Flights were suspended at Gaziantep Airport on Monday night after pilots reported a luminous, unidentified flying object (UFO).

At around 10:00 p.m. local time (GMT+3), pilots of an aircraft reported spotting a bright, unidentified object at an altitude of approximately 8,000 to 10,000 feet.

UFO alert in Türkiye’s 6th biggest city led to a brief chaos at the airport. Gaziantep is located in southeastern Türkiye, near the Syrian border.

The object, which did not appear on radar, was reported to air traffic control, prompting authorities to halt flights as a precaution.

One Turkish expert claimed that the light might be coming from a Starlink satellite.

Bizarre ‘Plasma Jellybean’ UFO Spotted Over Oklahoma City

An Oklahoma City man captured mystifying footage and photos of a bizarre UFO that he likened to a jellybean filled with plasma. According to a local media report, the odd sighting occurred on January 25th as Chris Frederick and his wife were about to head out for dinner. Their Saturday evening excursion came to a sudden stop when they reached their driveway and received a call from a concerned neighbor who had spotted something unusual in the sky. A buzz soon swept through the neighborhood, recounted Frederick, “before long, we were all standing out in the street and had our phones out.”

What captivated the witnesses was a peculiar glowing object behaving strangely in the sky. In footage captured by Frederick, he can be heard describing the UFO as the sighting unfolded. “I don’t hear anything, and something is moving in erratic ways,” he marveled, “it’s in the shape of a jellybean, but the interior was like plasma.” The couple’s dinner plans were now decidedly delayed as a curious Frederick decided to deploy his drone to get a better look at the aerial anomaly. However, adding another layer of mystery to the case, his UAV immediately experienced a series of weird issues.

“My controller talks to me,” he recalled, “and it said, ‘unable to take off, electromagnetic interference.'” After several subsequent attempts to launch the drone, he finally managed to get the craft airborne to about 1,000 feet beneath the UFO. From there, the UAV snapped three tantalizing photos, because the device’s video capability was inexplicably disabled, before almost immediately running out of power. “It had a fresh battery in it, it has a 35-minute flight life,” Frederick said, “and as soon as I took those three pictures, my controller said, ‘low battery, return to home.'”

House Republicans demand UFO transparency

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and some of President Trump’s most vocal supporters in the House do not agree on much, but they are in agreement that the government is hiding critical information on UFOs — also known as unidentified anomalous phenomena or UAP — from the American public.

Schumer and key House Republicans say that the government must come clean on what it knows about this decades-long mystery, which has seen 80 years of highly credibleconsistentmulti-witness reporting of objects exhibiting extreme performance characteristics.

On Feb. 11, House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) announced the establishment of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), a member of the bipartisan UAP Caucus, will lead the effort.

Comer and Luna sent letters to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CIA Director John Ratcliffe requesting a briefing on all UAP-related records in their possession, with the ultimate goal of “deliver[ing] transparency to the American people.”

Notably, Rubio and Ratcliffe, along with National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Trump himself, have made remarkable statements about UAP in recent years.

Ditto for Schumer. Shortly after Trump signed an executive order declassifying all government records on the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., Schumer challenged Trump to extend the same transparency to UAP.

Brits who took best UFO picture ever ‘vanished’ as MoD insider addresses ‘assassination’ claims

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) insider has addressed claims of a “deep state assassination” after Brits reportedly took the best UFO photo ever before they “vanished.”

Chefs were out walking in the Cairngorms mountains, in the Scottish Highlands, in August 1990, when they took photos of a diamond-like object in the sky as what appeared to be a military jet flew by. But after sending the image to now-Mirror affiliate the Daily Record, the pair vanished without a trace and the image did not emerge until it was published by the Mail in 2022.

A former MoD insider who worked on the department’s UFO desk shared his view about what he believes happened with the chefs. Nick Pope said he believed a “fairly robust” conversation happened with the pair in a bid to keep them from sharing more information.

But he told The Guardian: “The idea that these people were assassinated by the deep state – that’s just nonsense.” He made the comments after a former colleague of the chefs at Fisher’s Hotel, in Pitlockry, told the Mail it was as thought the pair had “vanished off the face of the Earth.”

Richard Grieve claimed the duo had been left “visibly shaken” after they were approached by two people dressed in black during a shift. He said the pair then vanished for four weeks.

It is also not known why the Daily Record did not run the photos. Mr Pope, who worked on the UFO desk for three years from 1991 and previously claimed the ministry “buried” the photo. He told the 2024 UFO documentary The Program that the Daily Record’s article would have “blown our standard line out of the water.”

He said: “Therefore, we wanted to bury this – and we did. All the photographs and all the negatives were acquired by the Ministry of Defence and they were never seen again.”
