MSNBC host forced to apologize live on-air over false Tulsi Gabbard claims

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle was forced to apologize to Tulsi Gabbard after falsely claiming the Director of National Intelligence praised the ‘good friendship’ between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.

Appearing on her 11th Hour show on Tuesday, Ruhle delivered the apology live on air after repeating what Gabbard’s office called ‘literal fake news’ during the previous episode.

‘Last night we reported on excerpts of an interview between the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, and an Indian TV news network in which she said that Trump was good friends with a world leader,’ Ruhle said.

‘We said that world leader was Vladimir Putin. The full interview shows that Gabbard was referring to Trump and Indian Prime Minister Modi. We’ve cleared that up.’

Guest host Ali Velshi made a similar apology during an episode of The Last Word.

Their apologies followed the Associated Press deleting ‘erroneous reporting’ in a story by David Klepper titled: ‘Gabbard Says Trump and Putin are “Very Good Friends” Focused on Strengthening Ties’.

The report was changed to remove the false statement with the editor’s note: ‘This story was updated on Mar. 17, 2025, to delete erroneous reporting that U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin “are very good friends”.’

‘Gabbard was actually talking about Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi,’ the outlet has since added to the bottom of the article.

The headline has since been changed to: ‘Gabbard says Trump is “looking forward to success” ahead of talk with Putin.’

Gabbard Defangs Ex-Intel Officials

National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard on Monday revoked the security clearances of dozens of former senior officials – including former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, ex-National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and the 51 intelligence executives who conjured up the story that Hunter Biden’s incriminating laptop was the work of Russian intelligence.

All their clearances were X-ed out on “X,” on which Gabbard wrote:

“Per @POTUS directive, I have revoked security clearances and barred access to classified information for Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, and Andrew Weissman, along with the 51 signers of the Hunter Biden ‘disinformation’ letter. The President’s Daily Brief is no longer being provided to former President Biden.”

Gabbard’s move will send a tidal wave through Washington D.C.’s Tidal Basin.  Creatures of “The Swamp,” plus allies in the media and Democratic Party, will raise a din. No matter. The intelligence chiefs who corrupted the profession in which I once took pride had it coming.

[Former C.I.A. agent John Kiriakou told Consortium News‘ CN Live! in February 2023 that while he was at the C.I.A. he often saw former senior agency officials hanging around headquarters discussing current intelligence and political matters. This should be harder to do now without their security clearances.]

Director Gabbard’s action is a clear warning that her boss told her to shut down the deep-state cottage industry of former spies able and willing to interfere in U.S. elections. Besides, a security clearance is a privilege, not an entitlement. President Trump said, “These are people we don’t respect.”

Trump has learned that the hard way – before and during his first term. The abundant evidence of intelligence officials meddling in domestic politics during the debunked Russiagate “scandal” justifies the step he ordered Gabbard to take.

Tulsi Gabbard Revokes Security Clearances From 51 ‘Spies Who Lied,’ Blinken, Letitia James and Deep State Lawyers – Daily Brief No Longer Provided to Biden

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard revoked security clearances from the 51 ‘spies who lied,’ several Biden-era officials and Deep State lawyers.

Joe Biden is also no longer receiving his Daily Brief.

Last month, President Trump stripped the security clearances of at least eight corrupt ‘antagonists’ who worked for Biden or targeted him for ruin over the last several years:

  • Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken
  • Former NatSec Advisor Jake Sullivan
  • New York Attorney General Letitia James
  • Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg
  • Biden’s Deputy AG Lisa Monaco
  • Corrupt prosecutor Andrew Weissmann
  • Deep State lawyer Mark Zaid
  • Norm Eisen – the man behind all the lawfare against Trump

On Monday, Tulsi Gabbard said that, on Trump’s orders, she had revoked all of their security clearances.

“Per @POTUS directive, I have revoked security clearances and barred access to classified information for Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, and Andrew Weissman, along with the 51 signers of the Hunter Biden “disinformation” letter. The President’s Daily Brief is no longer being provided to former President Biden,” Tulsi Gabbard announced on X on Monday afternoon.

Tulsi Gabbard Identifies Biggest National Security Threat, and It’s Not What We’ve Been Told

In a sane political environment, this would have passed as a decidedly unremarkable, albeit not quite one-hundred-percent accurate, observation. The U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, recently warned that “radical Islamist terrorism” is the biggest national security threat the nation faces today.

Well, of course. The top terror groups worldwide are all Islamic. On Sept. 11, 2001, Islamic jihadis carried out the largest-ever terror attack on American soil. Numerous other Islamic jihad attacks have taken place in the U.S., at Fort Hood, the Boston Marathon, San Bernardino, New Orleans, and numerous other places. The Biden regime caught numerous people on the terror watch list crossing into the U.S. from Mexico and released at least 99 of them into the country. Gabbard was therefore making an entirely reasonable assessment.

Gabbard said: “We look at the past four years of open borders, where we had tens of millions of people coming across our borders, many of whom we don’t know who they are or what their intentions are, very specifically the threat of radical Islamist terrorism here within our country is higher than it’s ever been before, not only because of Biden’s open borders, but because of his and his administration’s fear of being called Islamophobes.”

For Gabbard to speak of “radical Islamist terrorism” was not quite accurate, as there is nothing “radical” about Islamic jihad violence. It is mainstream and deeply rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah. And “Islamist” is a phony word that corresponds to nothing in Islamic theology. It is just an attempt to distance Islam from the crimes done in its name and in accord with its teachings.

Tulsi Gabbard to Fire Transgender Extremists and Sexual Deviants Who Participated in NSA’s Secret Sex Kink Chatrooms

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard will fire the transgender extremists and sexual deviants who participated in the NSA’s secret sex chatrooms.

According to Christopher Rufo: Tulsi Gabbard is preparing a memo directing all intelligence agencies to identify the employees who participated in the NSA’s “obscene, pornographic, and sexually explicit” chatrooms and to terminate their employment and revoke their security clearances. Deadline: Friday.

On Tuesday afternoon Tulsi Gabbard said “action is underway.”

On Monday Christopher Rufo and a fellow reporter obtained logs from the NSA’s secret transgender sex chatrooms.

Hundreds of transgender DEI hires in the NSA were using secret chat rooms to discuss sexual fetishes on government time.

Tulsi Gabbard, the Smear Machine, and the Battle for America’s Intelligence Integrity

In a time of growing distrust in institutions and blatant political double standards, the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence (DNI) has exposed the festering rot in America’s political and intelligence establishment.

Gabbard is a decorated combat veteran and former congresswoman. Once hailed as a rising star in the Democrat party, she has since been relentlessly smeared—from being labeled a “Russian asset” to even being placed on a terrorist watchlist during the Biden-Harris administration. These attacks aren’t just absurd; they expose how deeply politicized the intelligence community has become.

As DNI, Gabbard would oversee 18 intelligence agencies with a $70 billion budget. Her pending Senate confirmation—where Republicans hold the majority—reignited the predictable chorus of partisan attacks. But the real issue isn’t her qualifications, it’s that Washington fears what her leadership represents: independence, accountability, and a return to intelligence gathering as a national security mission—not a political weapon.

The Clinton Smear and the Politics of Personal Destruction

The “Russian asset” lie leveled against Gabbard is as transparent as it is baseless. The smear originated with none other than Hillary Clinton, who insidiously suggested in 2019 that Gabbard was being “groomed” by Russia to sabotage the 2020 election. Clinton—a political figure infamous for conspiracy theories and deflection—provided no evidence because there was none.

The sheer recklessness of Clinton’s smear should have made it a political joke—yet much of the chattering political class and legacy media ran with it. CNN, The New York Times, and others breathlessly analyzed Clinton’s remark, amplifying it with vague speculation and partisan spin. The same media that demands proof of election fraud or censorship claims had no problem laundering an evidence-free accusation from a former presidential candidate with a track record of deception.

Gabbard did not stay silent. She fired back, calling Clinton “the queen of warmongers” and exposing the smear for what it was: a desperate attempt to destroy an independent voice that refused to fall in line with the Democrat party’s regime-change mantra.

This tried-and-true tactic of the political class and their media acolytes is as dirty as it is effective. Once told, a lie creates a self-perpetuating cycle—a narrative endlessly repeated and amplified, inflicting lasting damage despite never being legitimate in the first place.

The smear took on a life of its own, metastasizing into a media-approved slander that is still repeated today by Democrat operatives, former intelligence officials, internet trolls, and corporate media lackeys.

This phenomenon is how the politics of personal destruction works. The accusation doesn’t need to be true—it just needs to be repeated. The Clinton machine, aided by its intelligence community allies, set the narrative, and the press dutifully carried it forward, tarnishing Gabbard’s name without substantively addressing the facts.

Senators Peddle Debunked Lies To Attack Gabbard for Supporting Snowden Pardon

Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination as Director of National Intelligence is one of the more hopeful signs that President Donald Trump will make good on his pledge to be a peacemaker.

While Gabbard is not a peacenik, she has fought against some of the worst abuses of the American Empire. She opposed the “regime change” wars in Syria and Libya, the NSA’s mass surveillance of Americans, and demanded a pardon for whistleblower Edward Snowden.

To little surprise, these are the issues that Senators attempted to attack during Gabbard’s confirmation hearing on Thursday. Among the smears were claims that Snowden recklessly disclosed the documents and that he fled to Russia.

The attacks on Snowden leveled by the Senators were outright lies. They shamelessly misrepresented his heroic decision to inform the American people that their government was running a massive surveillance program that violated the Constitutional rights of every American.

Senate Intel Panel Reportedly Considering HIDING Their Votes on Tulsi Gabbard from the American People Following News of Susan Collins’s Possible Opposition to Gabbard

The Senate Intel Committee may be poised to sink Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation for Director of National Intelligence (DNI) without an outside soul knowing how they voted.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, Senator Susan Collins (RINO-ME) may derail Gabbard’s confirmation as DNI due to concerns about Gabbard’s stance on Section 702 of the FISA which gives government permission to spy on supposed foreign targets without a warrant.

Gabbard previously proposed legislation to repeal section 702 due to the government violating the Fourth Amendment by abusing the warrantless spying program to spy on American citizens. She has since tried to reassure senators on the matter.

As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Collins holds considerable power. Gabbard cannot afford to lose one GOP defector since the vote is split along party lines at 9-8.

In addition to Collins, Senator Lindsey Graham (RINO-SC) is reportedly lukewarm on Gabbard due to her previously visiting Syria and calling for charges to be dropped against National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. While he is not on the intel committee, this underscores further hesitation regarding some GOP senators to Gabbard.

Now, Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk, who has close contacts on Capitol Hill, reports that the Senate Intel Committee may hide the vote tallies on Gabbard following Collins’ possible opposition.

If true, this would prove a despicable betrayal of the public trust.

“I’m told that the vote for Tulsi Gabbard might be done privately in a SCIF (sensitive compartmented information facility), – with the vote tallies kept secret from the American people,” Kirk wrote.

“This is outrageous and wrong,” he added. “The American people deserve to know how THEIR Senators vote on Trump’s nominees!”

The Predictable Capitulation of Tulsi Gabbard

Well, Tulsi Gabbard now says she is all for the unconstitutional law that permits the national security state to surveil Americans without obtaining legal warrants beforehand — a law Donald Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence has previously and vigorously pledged to repeal.

As President-elect Trump’s inauguration approaches and his cabinet appointments will be confirmed or rejected in Senate hearings, Gabbard’s in-your-face betrayal of public trust ought to focus our minds very sharply and very fast. Some of these minds, I will say straightaway, have drifted far from reality since Trump began announcing his nominees. This was especially so in the case of Gabbard.

As soon as Trump proposed Gabbard as his DNI, the shared expectation in some quarters, most of whose inhabitants I respect, was that she would — singlehandedly, I gathered from the commentaries — bring the hydra-headed monster euphemistically called “the intelligence community” under some semblance of political-civilian control.

And now this: Professing support for Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act after opposing it for years, Gabbard seems to have shocked a lot of people. Reading this in the large, she has just told America it’s the same old imperium after all.

Shall we join to sing “Up, Up, and Away” now that all the beautiful balloons have fallen to Earth and the world’s not a nicer place and doesn’t wear a nicer face?

Until her stunning volte-face last weekend, Gabbard had been single-mindedly steadfast in her opposition to many FISA provisions, notably but not only Section 702. A lot of people, I among them, put this among the most significant positions Gabbard, the former congresswoman, had taken on any policy question.

Gabbard reverses course on key intel-gathering tool as nomination teeters

Former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (Hawaii), President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for director of national intelligence, is changing her tune on a key intelligence-gathering authority she once sought to repeal as her Senate confirmation hangs in the balance.

Gabbard’s past criticisms of Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act have emerged as a central issue in her confirmation process, leaving GOP senators — including some in leadership — increasingly skeptical about the former Democrat’s confirmation prospects.

In her first public comments since being nominated, Gabbard told us in an exclusive statement that she now supports Section 702, saying the program is “crucial” and “must be safeguarded to protect our nation while ensuring the civil liberties of Americans.”

“If confirmed as DNI, I will uphold Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights while maintaining vital national security tools like Section 702 to ensure the safety and freedom of the American people,” Gabbard said.

In private meetings, senators are questioning Gabbard about legislation she introduced in 2020 that would repeal Section 702.

However, Gabbard now appears to be walking that back, citing Fourth Amendment protections implemented since then to prevent the incidental collection of Americans’ data:

“My prior concerns about FISA were based on insufficient protections for civil liberties, particularly regarding the FBI’s misuse of warrantless search powers on American citizens. Significant FISA reforms have been enacted since my time in Congress to address these issues.”

Inside Gabbard’s Senate meetings: Multiple senators from both parties who met with the former Hawaii lawmaker in recent days told us they emerged from those sessions unsure about Gabbard’s position on the 702 program. During these meetings, senators have pressed Gabbard on her previous public statements on the issue, as well as her votes against 702 reauthorization throughout her eight years in Congress.
