California’s Regulations, Not Price Gouging, Cause High Gas Prices, USC Study Finds

Gov. Gavin Newsom stands behind his claim that “Big Oil” is responsible for California’s higher gas prices and vowed on April 1 to continue his fight against the industry. The pledge comes after new research put the blame on state regulations and policies for the high prices at the pump.

California’s Democratic leaders have come out strongly against the oil industry in recent years, saying the companies’ gouging was causing record-high gas prices.

“Gov. Newsom has done more than any other governor in recent history to tackle the challenge of rising gas prices—despite what the oil industry and its allies say,” a spokesman for Newsom told The Epoch Times in an email Tuesday.

A new study published March 16 by Michael Mische from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California says the evidence contradicts Newsom. Mische’s research indicated California’s high gas prices were caused by the state’s regulations and policies.

“There is no economic data to support the allegation of price gouging,” Mische told The Epoch Times. “It just doesn’t exist.”

The professor also pushed back against Newsom’s claim that he was an industry ally.

“The data is the data,” Mische said.

Mische has been on the USC faculty since 1997, where he coordinates the business school’s management consulting undergraduate and graduate programs.

In March 2023, the governor signed a “windfall-profits penalty law” to target oil companies. The new law created a slew of regulations and extensive oversight for oil companies.

Newsom’s office said the governor saved Californians billions of dollars at the pump by signing the law.

The measure allows the governor’s appointed Energy Commission to fine and penalize oil companies if they earned profits beyond state-imposed limits.

California’s Gavin Newsom is quietly giving rich residents secret cell phones to call him whenever they want

Governor Gavin Newsom has sent major California business owners secret cell phones with his direct number programmed on them.

Approximately 100 leaders of state-headquartered companies received packages containing the phones and personal notes from the Democrat governor in recent months.

‘If you ever need anything, I’m a phone call away,’ said one note received by an unnamed tech CEO obtained by Politico.

Newsom’s office confirmed they sent out the phones, but did not specify who has received them.

‘This was the governor’s idea to connect more directly with business leaders in the state. The feedback has been positive, and it’s led to valuable interactions,’ Izzy Gardon, the governor’s communications director, told KCRA.

Gardon claimed the gift is meant to show Newsom’s support of the California business community, maintaining the state’s global economic dominance, creating jobs and expanding industries. 

The California State Protocol Foundation, a non-profit organization that has helped cover costs for the governor’s ceremonial events, paid for the phones.

The Golden State has been hemorrhaging its prized millionaires amid soaring living costs, unrelenting wildfires and a bitter political climate.

Report: California’s Gavin Newsom Refuses to Release Texts, Emails About L.A. Fires

Governor Gavin Newsom is reportedly refusing to release text messages and emails to and from Los Angeles city and county officials regarding the recent wildfires, claiming that they are “exempt” from publication.

As Breitbart News noted earlier this week, Los Angeles Karen Bass has deleted her text messages about the Palisades fire. Bass told local Fox affiliate KTTV-11  in a news conference: “My phone did automatic delete after thirty days.”

The outlet also asked Newsom for his text messages with the mayor and with Los Angeles county, and was denied.

Newsom Accused of Secretly Funding His Own Tribute in City Hall: Report

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) allegedly orchestrated the funding of a bronze bust of himself inside San Francisco City Hall while serving as mayor, using money from companies he controlled, according to a newly released book.

The book claims that while Newsom played a key role in securing funds, he later distanced himself from the process, portraying himself as unaware of who had financed the monument.

In “Fool’s Gold: The Radicals, Con Artists, and Traitors Who Killed the California Dream and Now Threaten Us All,” authors Susan Crabtree and Jedd McFatter detail how Newsom allegedly used a system of “behested payments” to channel money toward the project. In California politics, behested payments allow elected officials to request private donations for causes, but they have drawn criticism when the contributions appear to benefit the official making the request, according to Breitbart.

A review of Newsom’s behested payments shows that between late 2015 and early 2016, three private entities donated money to the nonprofit Community Initiatives, designating the funds for the “Mayoral Bust at San Francisco City Hall.” Two of these entities—Balboa Cafe Partners and PlumpJack Management Group—were owned by Newsom, with each contributing $5,000 to the project.

California Governor Gavin Newsom—one of the most vocal leftist champions of the radical LGBTQ+ agenda—just committed the ultimate sin in the eyes of his progressive allies: he admitted the truth.

In the first episode of his new podcast, This is Gavin Newsom, the California Democrat shockingly broke ranks with the far left, conceding that biological men competing in women’s sports is, in his own words, “deeply unfair.”

“I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness. It’s deeply unfair,” Newsom told Charlie Kirk.

Charlie Kirk:
You right now should come out and be like, “You know what? The young man who’s about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports—that shouldn’t happen. You, as the governor, should step out and say no.”

Gavin Newsom:
No, and I appreciate that.

Charlie Kirk:
But would you do something like that? Would you say, “No men in female sports?”

Gavin Newsom:
Well, I think it’s an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that; that’s easy to call out, the unfairness of that. There’s also a humility and grace that these people lack, which makes them more likely to commit suicide, and suffer from anxiety and depression. The way that people talk about vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well.

California LGBTQ Caucus ‘Sickened and Disgusted’ After Newsom Turns on Trans Athletes

California’s LGBTQ Caucus is “sickened and disgusted” by Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) comments calling transgender-identifying male participation on female sports teams “deeply unfair.” 

“We were certainly caught off guard and woke up incredibly sickened and disgusted about seeing somebody who’s been an ally of our community use this language,” Democrat Assemblymember and chair of the California Legislative LGBTQ Caucus Chris Ward told CapRadio. 

Ward added that while he appreciates Newsom’s past leadership on LGBTQ+ issues, his remarks about transgender athletes are confusing. 

“Transgender kids just like any other student – although a very, very small part of the population – deserve a chance to benefit from what sports have to offer,” Ward said.

Gavin Newsom to Victims of California Fires: ‘You Can’t Rebuild the Same, Have to Rebuild With Climate Reality in Mind’ 

Last month, comedian Adam Carolla went viral in a video where he talked about how horrible the rebuild process would be for the victims of the California fires because of progressive policies in the state. Carolla said:

So here’s what’s going to happen. All these people who are deep blue Democrats are now going to have to pull a permit to rebuild, and they’re going to get the 28 year old bitch from the Coastal Commission telling them to go fuck off and then they’re going to vote for Trump or whoever’s Trumpian next.

When they start getting the regulation, they’re going to go nuts. And when they start running into the bureaucracy and the red tape, they’re going to start going nuts and they’re going to vote for Rick Caruso next time.

California Governor Gavin Newsom tried to get out in front of this and said that the red tape would be cut and building permits would flow freely in order for these people to rebuild their lives and their homes.

And yet…

Gavin Newsom just appeared on CNN and explained that people ‘can’t rebuild the same.’ Newsom suggests that there is a new reality due to the ‘science’ and climate change, and that all of that has to be taken into account as people rebuild.

In other words, Adam Carolla was right. Newsom and other authorities in California may be handing out building permits, but it’s pretty clear that there will still be red tape and new rules for rebuilding.

Gavin Newsom’s Bay Area ravaged by surging crime as LA burns: ‘It’s a war zone!’

California residents in the Bay Area are fed up with the mounting crime and calling on Gov. Gavin Newsom to send help as Los Angeles continues to battle wildfires that have destroyed several communities. 

As looting is on the rise in Southern California as communities work to pick up the pieces left by wildfires, Newsom is calling for looting in fire evacuation zones to be a felony after prosecutors urged him to issue harsher penalties.

“Preying on people at their most vulnerable is despicable, these criminals are among the worst kinds,” Newsom said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital on Thursday afternoon. 

Newsom said “looting has never been legal here” and that “it will not be tolerated” as the state continues to battle the ravenous inferno that broke out on Jan. 7.

Newsom’s ‘Answer’ to Hard L.A. Fire Questions Is to Censor People Asking Them

California Governor Gavin Newsom doesn’t want to answer the hard questions about the L.A. fires, so he wants the question askers to be censored. That’s not hyperbole, that’s a fact. And you can watch him do it right here.  

That fact alone should be disqualifying for anyone in or seeking public office, as the current California governor surely hopes to in 2028 when he’ll likely run for president.

Newsom is seen on video twice complaining about how these hard questions make him look bad. The questions come from his voters, reporters, and social media.

The governor was so upset by these questions that he asked the president of the United States to censor the people asking them. 

Newsom asked Biden, who was in the Oval Office sitting behind the Resolute Desk with Jill Biden and Kamala Harris in the room, to clamp down on the hard questions.

I ask you – we’ve got to deal with this misinformation. There are hurricane force winds of mis and dis information; lies. People want to divide this country, and we’re gonna have to address that as well. 

There are several things you can divine from this conversation between these powerful Democrats. First, Newsom felt perfectly comfortable asking the president to do something about the information he doesn’t like and wants removed from the public because it is obviously detrimental to his reputation. Also, it’s de rigueur for these people to control the information flow. Third, he’s fully read-in on how “dividing this country” is a reason to invoke censorship.

BACKFIRE: Gavin Newsom’s Meet the Press Interview Turns into a Major Disaster – Wild Gestures, Word Salads, and More

Gavin Newsom decided to take his PR campaign to national television on Sunday, and the results were a major disaster with notable word salads, wild gestures, and more.

As The Daily Mail reported, NBC News Correspondent Jacob Soboroff traveled to Altadena, a census-designated place in the San Gabriel Valley in California which has been tormented by the Eaton Fire, to meet with the disgraced governor.

Throughout the interview, The Mail noted Newsom appeared defensive as he often clapped and made several other glaring gestures that caught the attention of viewers as he attempted to spin his way out of his disastrous leadership. He looked more like an agitated Bernie Sanders than the calm, measured leader California needs.

During one sequence, he showed he had no clue why the reservoirs in the Pacific Palisades were left completely empty. One of them, The Santa Ynez Reservoir, has a capacity of 117 million gallons and could have played a critical role in stopping the fires as The Gateway Pundit reported.

“Was it pipes? Was it electricity? It was a combination of pipes, electricities, and pumps,” Newsom asked as he rocked and threw up his hands.

“Was that drawdown impossible because you lost seven-plus thousand structures right here anyway and every single structure we lost had a pipe that was leaking, and we would’ve lost that water pressure anyway?”

Seeing Newsom’s mannerisms caused many Americans to wonder what was wrong with him.
