The Deep State’s Triumph: 2024 and the Erosion of Liberty

We have become a nation adrift in a sea of government overreach, abuse and corruption.

The following is a sobering account of the challenges we faced in 2024, which were marked by the government’s never-ending power grabs and relentless assaults on our civil liberties.

2024 saw a continued rise in government overreach and abuse of power. The militarization of police forces continued unabated, with local departments increasingly resembling extensions of the military. Schools, meant to be places of learning and growth, became more prison-like with the implementation of “safety” measures that criminalize minor infractions and create an environment of fear. The right to private property was further eroded, with the government increasingly empowered to seize assets under various pretexts. The plight of the homeless worsened, with cities criminalizing homelessness and implementing policies designed to make their lives even more difficult. Military veterans, once hailed as heroes, were increasingly treated with suspicion and subjected to surveillance.

On almost every front this year, the government overreached and abused its powers.

With every new law enacted by federal and state legislatures, every new ruling handed down by government courts, and every new military weapon, invasive tactic and egregious protocol employed by government agents, we were reminded that in the eyes of the government and its corporate accomplices, “we the people” possess no rights except for that which the Deep State grants on an as-needed basis.

Scott Jennings Drops the Mother of All Truth Bombs on CNN

In an epic exchange on CNN, Senior Political Commentator Scott Jennings delivered a brutal reality check to Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) and the Democrats, cutting through their rhetoric with precision. The moment came after Jayapal launched into a tirade blaming Elon Musk and Donald Trump for the looming government shutdown.

“We already had a bill,” she said. “We negotiated it. Mike Johnson agreed to it. And because, as you said, Elon Musk, a billionaire, tweeted about it — President Musk tweeted about it — these Republicans tried to go around their own caucus, all the work that’s been done, and they are in charge of shutting down the government. Now, that is what’s going to happen tomorrow night at midnight if we don’t come to a deal.”

Jayapall also accused Trump of ceding control to Musk, saying, “I mean, this is a real crisis in my mind for Donald Trump: who’s the president right now… and who’s going to be the president come – come the New Year?” She even posed the bizarre question, “Are we now negotiating with Elon Musk? Is Mike Johnson not the speaker anymore?”

She continued, “I mean, this is abdicating all of the responsibilities of elected officials, whether it’s the Republican speaker or the Republican president-to-be and giving it to an unelected guy. So I am shocked at the speed with which Donald Trump seems to have conceded his power to Elon Musk.”

Jennings, however, didn’t let this hyperbole slide. 

When host Erin Burnett asked him for his response, Jennings zeroed in on Jayapal’s slip of the tongue. “She let the mask slip right at the end. She said, ‘Who’s the president right now?’” he noted. 

Jennings went on to cite a recent Wall Street Journal exposé revealing that Joe Biden hasn’t actually been in charge over the past four years, and that unelected staffers and cabinet members have basically been running the government.

“Joe Biden, who we rarely hear from, The Wall Street Journal reported today has been diminished for the last four years, and we’ve had unelected people running around running the federal government, apparently.”

‘Dumb’ Democrat Sen. Durbin Defends Deep State Ally — Claims Trump ‘Can’t Fire FBI Director Wray’ Before 2027

Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL), the Senate Majority Whip and Chair of the Judiciary Committee, has defended FBI Director Christopher Wray, asserting that President Trump lacks the authority to replace Wray before his term expires in 2027.

Durbin, echoing the talking points of the Democratic establishment, lambasted Trump’s decision to nominate Kash Patel to lead the FBI. Patel, a staunch advocate for accountability and one of the key figures in exposing the Russia collusion hoax, has become a target of left-wing attacks precisely because of his track record of confronting corruption.

On Saturday, Trump announced his intention to replace current FBI Director Christopher Wray. Trump praised Patel as a “brilliant lawyer” and a staunch defender of justice, poised to tackle America’s crime and corruption.

Trump wrote on Truth Social:

“I am proud to announce that Kashyap “Kash” Patel will serve as the next Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and “America First” fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People. He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution.

Kash did an incredible job during my First Term, where he served as Chief of Staff at the Department of Defense, Deputy Director of National Intelligence, and Senior Director for Counterterrorism at the National Security Council.

Kash has also tried over 60 jury trials. This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border. Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI.”

However, Durbin insists that Wray should remain in his position until the end of his designated term, despite clear precedents and the President’s constitutional authority to make changes within the executive branch.

“We already have a FBI Director, and his term doesn’t expire until 2027. Donald Trump can’t be allowed to hire and fire FBI Directors just because they failed his loyalty test,” said Durbin in a statement.

Some Questions to Ask on Thanksgiving

What if the government’s true goal is to perpetuate its own power? What if the real levers of governmental power are pulled by agents, diplomats, bureaucrats, donors, central bankers and arms manufacturers? What if they have power no matter who is elected president or which political party controls either house of Congress?

What if the frequent public displays of adversity between Republicans and Democrats are just a facade? What if both major political parties agree on the fundamental issues of our day?

What if the leadership of both political parties believes that our rights are not natural to our humanity but instead are gifts from the government? What if those leaders believe the government that gives gifts to the people can take those gifts away?

What if the leadership of both parties gives only lip service to Thomas Jefferson’s assertions in the Declaration of Independence that all persons “are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” and that when the government assaults our natural rights, we can “alter or abolish” it?

What if the leadership of both parties quietly dismisses those ideas as Jefferson’s outdated musings? What if Jefferson’s words are core American values that all in government have sworn to uphold?

What if the leadership of both political parties believes that the constitutional requirement of due process somehow permits mothers to hire doctors to kill babies in their wombs, out of fear or convenience? What if the leadership of both political parties believes that the president may lawfully kill any foreigner out of fear, because due process is an inconvenience?

What if the last four presidents — two from each political party — have used high-tech drones to kill innocent people in foreign lands with which America was not at war and claimed that they did so legally, relying not on a declaration of war from Congress but on erroneous and secret legal arguments that claim American presidents can kill with impunity?

What if the Constitution requires a congressional declaration of war or due process whenever the government wants anyone’s life, liberty or property, whether convenient or not, and whether the person is American or not? What if due process means a fair jury trial, not a secretly ordered killing?

What if most members of Congress from both political parties believe in perpetual war and perpetual debt? What if the political class believes that war is the health of the state? What if the leadership of that class wants war so as to induce the loyalty of its base, open the pocketbooks of the taxpayers, gain the compliance of the voters and enrich its benefactors? What if the government has been paying for war by increasing its debt?

Was Russia or the Deep State Behind the 57 Polling Locations Across the Country that Received Bomb Threats?

During and after the 2024 Election, at least 57 polling locations across the country received bomb threats. Was this a targeted operation by Russia, China, or the Deep State?

report from NBC from election night claimed that at least 50 election locations were targeted across multiple battleground states with bomb threats.

Hoax bomb threats targeting polling places and election offices briefly disrupted voting in five battleground states, with the FBI saying the threats in four of those states came from Russian email domains. The origin of the threats in the fifth state was not clear.

The threats targeted at least 50 sites across Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wisconsin and Michigan, authorities said.

…The Russian Embassy in the U.S. said any accusation that it was behind the threats was “vicious slander” and “nonsense,” according to the government-owned news service RIA Novosti.

In Pennsylvania there were at least 13 voting locations throughout the state that reported bomb threats. The threats were reportedly received via email. Most were reported on election day.

An email announcing a bomb threat at the Chester County Government Services Center on 601 Westtown Road in West Chester was sent to Chester County Voter Services on Tuesday night, shortly before polls closed, according to investigators.

Chester County Emergency Officials responded to the building which was evacuated. The Chester County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit conducted a sweep and determined the threat was unfounded. The building was later reopened.

The FBI blamed this incident [email] being from overseas origin. Does anyone trust this guy?

This Is How It Begins: The Deep State Wants to Terminate the Constitution

This is how it begins. This is how it always begins, justified in the name of national security.

Mass roundups. Raids. Indefinite detentions in concentration camps. Martial law. The erosion of habeas corpus protections. The suspension of the Constitution, at least for select segments of the population. A hierarchy of rights, contingent on whether you belong to a favored political class.

This is what you can expect in the not-so-distant future.

Once you allow the government to overreach the restraints imposed  by the Constitution, no matter what that threat might be, it will be that much harder to restrain it again, no matter which party is at the helm.

We’ve seen this played out time and again.

Some years ago, for instance, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Salt Lake Tribune Editorial Board suggested that government officials should mandate mass vaccinations and deploy the National Guard “to ensure that people without proof of vaccination would not be allowed, well, anywhere.”

In other words, they wanted the government to use the military to round up and lock up the unvaccinated in concentration camps.

That didn’t happen, but it so easily could have.

Now the script has been flipped, and it’s the soon-to-be Trump Administration promising to use the military to round up and lock up undesirables in concentration camps.

At this moment in time, those so-called “undesirables” are illegal immigrants, but given what we know about the government and its expansive definition of what constitutes a threat to its power, any one of us could be next up in the police state’s crosshairs.

Once you give the government a taste of that kind of power—to disregard the Constitution, even for a day; to use the military for domestic policing; to rely on mass deportations and concentration camps in order to sidestep due process procedures—it won’t be so easy to rein it in when it runs amok.

And it will run amok.

Deep State Focus On The FBI

It’s becoming more clear by the day that the Deep State is gathering itself for an all out war against Trump 2.0. The attempts at disruptive “leaks”—hoaxes—were just the start, although we can expect them to continue, perhaps at more sophisticated levels. The ATACMS authorization, which was quickly implemented, is a lesson in how far the Deep State is willing to go. How that will work out remains to be seen.

Early on when the first rumors were floated, touting former Congressman Mike Rogers for the Director FBI position, I warned that there could hardly be a worse choice, from a purely Trumpian standpoint. Rogers is totally Deep State and Swamp Dweller, having served as chairman of the HPSCI and now being on the board of directors for the Atlantic Council. Today we got another Rogers related rumor from Sundance:

Reported Senate Offer: We’ll Give You Matt Gaetz in DOJ, if You Give us Mike Rogers in FBI

That says so much, doesn’t it? For starters, you know that if that’s the Senate offer, it’s a bad deal for Trump. And it raises the question of why the Deep State/Ruling Class place such a high priority on the FBI—as if we couldn’t figure this out from Trump 1.0. This tells you that the Deep State view is that controlling the investigative process with regard to USPersons and controlling the flow of classified information is a top priority. It has to be the case, if Thune is willing to tolerate Gaetz at DoJ. There may also be a calculation that Gaetz may be more easily thwarted at DoJ than a tough Director at the FBI. Or that Gaetz could be ousted after confirmation. Lots of possibilities here, but they all militate against Trump’s interests.

All of this fits in with my speculation that at least some of Trump’s announced appointments may be initial bargaining positions. If this rumor is true, it’s a strong indication that the Deep State and the Ruling Class are playing for keeps against Trump. It also suggests that they are very fearful that Trump will prioritize a full airing of the Russia Hoax. One which would implicate large swathes of the Deep State/Ruling Class.

The Very Definition of Tyranny: A Dictatorship Disguised as Democracy

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Unadulterated power in any branch of government is a menace to freedom, but concentrated power across all three branches is the very definition of tyranny: a dictatorship disguised as democracy.

When one party dominates all three branches of government—the executive, the legislative, and the judicial—there is even more reason to worry.

There’s no point debating which political party would be more dangerous with these powers.

This is true no matter which party is in power.

This is particularly true in the wake of the 2024 election.

Already, Donald Trump, who promised to be a dictator on “day one,” is advancing plans to further undermine the nation’s already vulnerable system of checks and balances.

To be fair, this is not a state of affairs that can be blamed exclusively on Trump.

America’s founders intended our system of checks and balances to serve as a bulwark against centralized power being abused.

As constitutional scholar Linda Monk explains, “Within the separation of powers, each of the three branches of government has ‘checks and balances’ over the other two. For instance, Congress makes the laws, but the President can veto them, and the Supreme Court can declare them unconstitutional. The President enforces the law, but Congress must approve executive appointments and the Supreme Court rules whether executive action is constitutional. The Supreme Court can strike down actions by both the legislative and executive branches, but the President nominates Supreme Court justices, and the Senate confirms or denies their nominations.”

Unfortunately, our system of checks and balances has been strained to the breaking point for years now, helped along by those across the political spectrum who, in marching in lockstep with the Deep State, have conspired to advance the government’s agenda at the expense of the citizenry’s constitutional rights.

By “government,” I’m not referring to the farce that is the highly partisan, two-party, bureaucracy of the Republicans and Democrats. Rather, I’m referring to “government” with a capital “G,” the entrenched Deep State that is unaffected by elections, unaltered by populist movements, and has set itself beyond the reach of the law.

This is exactly the kind of concentrated, absolute power the founders attempted to guard against by establishing a system of checks of balances that separate and shares power between three co-equal branches.

Yet as law professor William P. Marshall concludes, “The system of checks and balances that the Framers envisioned now lacks effective checks and is no longer in balance. The implications of this are serious. The Framers designed a system of separation of powers to combat government excess and abuse and to curb incompetence. They also believed that, in the absence of an effective separation-of-powers structure, such ills would inevitably follow. Unfortunately, however, power once taken is not easily surrendered.”

The outcome of the 2024 elections is not a revolutionary bid to recalibrate a government run amok. Rather, this is a Deep State coup to stay in power, and Donald Trump is the vehicle by which it will do so.

Deep State Creep John Brennan Has the Nerve to Question Tulsi Gabbard’s Fitness for National Security Role

Former CIA director John Brennan recently appeared on MSNBC and had the audacity to question Tulsi Gabbard’s fitness for a national security role not that Trump has tapped her for DNI.

Brennan pushed conspiracy theories about Gabbard being in league with Russia and Putin, same old playbook from four years ago. John Bolton is pushing the same lies.

These people have no shame and will say anything to smear anyone connected to Trump.

JOHN BRENNAN: Clearly, Tulsi Gabbard has taken actions and made statements over the past several years that raise serious questions about her common sense, judgment, and political sympathies. Cozying up to Putin as well as to Bashar al-Assad shows she doesn’t have the type of perspective needed for someone who is going to head up these 18 intelligence agencies.

As Tom Nichols said, she doesn’t have any qualifications. The Director of National Intelligence is a serious and complex position that requires someone who actually understands the intelligence community. It’s like an orchestra conductor for all the different agencies and departments involved in the intelligence process. I don’t think she understands the instruments involved in this orchestra, nor has she had any experience at the strategic level of running and leading a large, complex organization.

The Director of National Intelligence is, according to legislation, the President’s principal intelligence adviser, responsible for ensuring the President’s daily brief is put together in a sound and forthright manner.

History of clashes with ‘deep state’ signals Gaetz would bring Trump reform to DOJ

In Congress, Donald Trump’s Attorney General pick Matt Gaetz was at the forefront in challenging the Justice Department and was a staunch defender of the former president, hinting at the role the firebrand could play in remaking the troubled federal agency if he is confirmed. 

Gaetz rose to prominence defending then-President Trump and bashing the Justice Department during the Russia collusion investigation into the Trump campaign, frequently appearing on television and using his role on key committees to challenge the agency, which pushed the long-debunked “Russian conspiracy” narrative. 

After Trump’s first term ended, the four-term congressman challenged the department on its handling of Hunter Biden probes and the investigation into the Trump assassination attempts. 

President-elect Trump undoubtedly nominated Gaetz for these reasons, seeing him as an important defender and loyal ally to head an agency he felt was undermining him at every turn in his first term. 

But, Gaetz will still likely face a tough confirmation battle and his nomination has drawn skepticism from Senate Republicans who will be vital to confirming him to the role. 

When spurious allegations that the Trump campaign had colluded with Russia were being pushed by Capitol Hill Democrats, Donald Trump’s first attorney general, former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions, angered the president when he recused himself and allowed the department to appoint a special counsel to investigate the allegations.
