AOC Pushes Gun Control After Charlie Kirk Assassinated with Bolt Action Rifle

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) described the assassination of Charlie Kirk as “horrific,” then pushed for more gun control, according to The Hill. 

Speaking to reporters, Ocasio-Cortez said, “This is horrific. This is awful.”

She then said, “Are we going to do something, or are we going to argue over rhetoric? That is my question about this. We have to pass gun safety legislation and stop this.”

Ocasio-Cortez did not say what type of gun control she would like to see passed nor what new law she thinks we need against bolt action rifles. 

During a Thursday morning press conference, FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls announced they had found the rifle they believed was used to assassinate Kirk. Bohls said it was a bolt action and they found it in “a wooded area.”

A bolt action rifle is popular for hunting and typically has an internal, fixed magazine, holding 4 or 5 rounds. The bolt must be manually lifted, pulled back, then pushed forward into battery, between shots, as each round must be manually loaded into the chamber. 

Like a revolver, a bolt action rifle is rudimentary. What gun control would impact such rifles?

Steven Crowder Announces He Has Been Subpoenaed Over Explosive ATF Leak Revealing Transgender and Anti-Fascist Engravings on Charlie Kirk Assassin’s Weapon

Conservative podcaster Steven Crowder has announced that his company has been subpoenaed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) after he received a leaked document from within the agency claiming that a weapon found near the site of Charlie Kirk’s assassination was equipped with cartridges etched with symbols and phrases tied to transgender and Antifa ideology.

The FBI confirmed during a press conference on Thursday morning that the shooter’s gun was found in a wooded area near the campus. The Wall Street Journal later reported that its sources confirmed the markings.

In a post on X, Crowder wrote, “Just received word that my company is being subpoenaed by the ATF. No details yet.”

The original post stated, “This morning my team received an e-mail from officer at ATF. The email included a screen shot from what appears to be an internal message describing a weapon and cartridges located by an ATF and other law enforcement near the scene of the Charlie Kirk shooting at Utah Valley State University.”

The document describes the cartridges as bearing etched symbols including the transgender flag colors and phrases such as “Trans Rights Are Human Rights,” hinting at a premeditated act driven by radical beliefs.

Utah College Student Reported Suspicious Man on Losee Center Roof to FBI After Spotting Him Twice in Two Weeks Before Charlie Kirk Assassination — Says Suspect Matches Person of Interest and Was Confronted by Professor

A Utah Valley University student revealed to CNN that he spotted a suspicious man walking on or near the roof of the Losee Center twice in two weeks before Kirk was assassinated.

Even more alarming, he says the man he saw bears a striking resemblance to the person of interest whose photo has now been released by police.

The Utah Department of Public Safety released four additional photos of the suspected Charlie Kirk assassin on Thursday night.

Earlier in the day, the FBI had unveiled the first batch of images of the person of interest in the assassination.

Actress Amber Tamblyn Mocks the Fact that Charlie Kirk’s Daughter Witnessed His Gory Assassination

Actress Amber Tamblyn suggested that the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was a “public execution” and mocked the fact that Kirk’s daughter witnessed his horrific and gruesome murder.

“Wish granted,” Tamblyn wrote in a Thursday BlueSky post, sharing a February 24, 2024 Newsweek article, headlined, “Trump Ally Charlie Kirk Suggests Children Should Watch Public Executions.”

The actress was therefore suggesting that Kirk was “executed” for the fictitious crime of exercising his First Amendment right — seemingly in agreeance with a murderous assassin.

For context, the Newsweek article cited an episode of The Charlie Kirk Show, in which Kirk and co-hosts were hypothetically discussing murderers who have been sentenced to the death penalty receiving a public execution, surmising that crime may go down as a result.

At one point during the panel discussion, co-hosts shared their opinions about what they believed the age limitations should be for people attending a theoretical public execution — should they exist.

Gun recovered in Charlie Kirk assassination revealed — and ammo bore pro-trans, anti-fascist messages: sources

A rifle recovered in the hunt for conservative influencer Charlie Kirk’s assassin contained ammo engraved with “transgender and anti-fascist ideology,” according to preliminary reports from law enforcement sources.

The weapon — an imported .30-06-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle — was discovered wrapped in a towel by investigators in a wooded area following the killing of the conservative leading light, who was shot once while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, according to the memo.

A source familiar noted that the Justice Department is investigating the descriptions alleged in the ATF memo, but that the agency was unable to confirm that the description matched the evidence recovered at the scene.

Kirk, 31, was struck in the neck by a single shot fired from a distance of around 200 yards while answering an audience member’s question about mass shootings committed by transgender people.

The Killing of Charlie Kirk: 5 Idiotic Responses on Social Media

A manhunt is still underway for the assassin who gunned down Charlie Kirk, the conservative media giant and founder of the influential student activist group Turning Point USA. Unfortunately, the fact that authorities have yet to confirm the killer’s identity, means, and motivations has not prevented countless pundits from issuing sweeping condemnations of various forces to which they are assigning blame for Kirk’s demise: rival political tribes, so-called violent rhetoric, guns, and even (why not) the state of Israel.

It bears repeating that this shocking murder occurred about 24 hours ago. Kirk’s family and friends are probably still in shock, and the millions of people who agreed with Kirk’s views, admired his accomplishments, listened to his shows, attended his conferences, or otherwise regarded him as a fellow traveler—in truth, he was one of the most important conservative media figures in history—are just beginning to grieve. It is far, far too early to start pointing fingers, particularly when the individual (or individuals) directly at fault has not yet been apprehended.

Thankfully, there has also been an outpouring of renunciations of violence from many people who were at odds with Kirk politically: mainstream media commentators, Democratic political figures, etc. These expressions of moral and human solidarity are refreshing. The New York Times‘ Ezra Klein, for instance, praised him for “practicing politics the right way.” Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and other prominent Democrats issued statements of unqualified support for Kirk’s family. That’s all good and can help to de-escalate tensions.

But many others are going off the deep end—and some are even making a mockery of the very ideas that Kirk stood for. They ought to know better.

I wanted to highlight a few of the unhinged responses, because it will be useful to explain why they are wrong, harmful, and sadly indicative of various strains of incorrect thinking.

 Vile TMZ Staff Caught Cheering Moments Before Announcing Charlie Kirk’s Death, Outlet Wildly Claims It Was Over a ‘Car Chase,’ Excuse Obviously Falls Flat

TMZ faced massive backlash after staff of the outlet could be heard erupting in cheers seconds before host Harvey Levin announced Charlie Kirk’s death on Wednesday.

The footage, captured during a live broadcast covering Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University, revealed audible cheers, laughter, and applause from the newsroom as producers relayed President Donald Trump’s confirmation of Kirk’s passing.

Kirk, 31, a beloved husband, father of two very young children, and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck from 200 yards away while speaking on campus, in what Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has called a “political assassination.”

In a desperate bid to deflect the outrage, TMZ issued a statement claiming the cheers were unrelated to Kirk’s death.

According to the outlet, the noise came from employees in another part of the building who were watching a live police car chase unfolding in Temple City, California, not the tragic announcement. Hosts Harvey Levin and Charles Latibeaudiere addressed the controversy on air, calling the laughter “tone-deaf” in hindsight and apologizing for the poor optics during a time of national mourning.

“As we were reporting the assassination of Charlie Kirk, there were some people in the back room away from our news desk who were watching a car chase, and they were laughing and clapping…they were not laughing that way about Charlie Kirk’s assassination,” Levin claimed.

A young woman who witnessed the assassination of Charlie Kirk has posted a video describing how leftists in the crowd were cheering after he was fatally shot.

Kirk, 31, a beloved husband and father to two very young children, was fatally shot in the neck on Wednesday while speaking at a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University.

“I just witnessed Charlie Kirk get assassinated,” the tearful young woman begins. “It was the most awful thing I’ve ever seen in my life.”

She continues, “They shot him in the neck and blood went everywhere.”

“The worst part of it all was that the liberals who were there were cheering,” she said, still very visibly shaken.
