‘Civilian Climate Corps’ to be part of Senate Democrats’ infrastructure bill

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Tuesday that a climate jobs proposal called the Civilian Climate Corps will be part of the $3.5 trillion infrastructure bill that Senate Democrats plan to pass.

The move reflects the high priority many Democratic activists place on climate change measures, even as businesses raise concerns about the financial cost of conversion to non-fossil fuels. The furthest-left lawmakers, such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, have long pushed for the “Green New Deal,” which calls on the federal government to wean the United States from fossil fuels and curb planet-warming greenhouse gas emissions across the economy.

“Right now, we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to confront the climate crisis and create millions of permanent good-paying union jobs,” Schumer, a New York Democrat, told reporters Tuesday. “It’s a great opportunity to combine those things. I have made addressing the climate crisis in a bold and strong way, the primary focus of our debate on infrastructure.”

MP Calls for Unvaccinated Australians to Be Banned From Public Places

An Australian MP has called for people who refuse to take the vaccine to be prohibited from returning to their job and banned from public places.

The Independent reports: “Upper House politician Frank Pangallo from the SA-Best party, has demanded that vaccination be made mandatory for workplaces, travel and when visiting public or hospitality venues.”

According to Adelaide Now, Pangallo said unvaccinated citizens must have their movements controlled and restricted in an effort to combat the ever-evolving virus.

“While people might still have a choice whether or not to get vaccinated, what they can do in the community will need to be controlled and restricted,” Pangallo said.

“I understand people will think this is a rather drastic and draconian step, but this pandemic continues to evolve in ways and waves nobody can predict.

“There would need to be a requirement incorporated with QR code information that if you want to travel on public transport, airlines, enter venues, shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes, you will need to show you have been vaccinated.

“It might also have to apply for the workplaces,” he added.

Earlier this month, in what was described as potentially “one of the largest petitions in parliamentary history,” over 300,000 Australians called on the House of Representatives to ban mandatory vaccinations in Australia.

IDF Intelligence warns of vaccine-resistant Israeli coronavirus mutation

The IDF’s Military Intelligence Directorate on Saturday evening published a warning that combining mass vaccination with a spike in infections could lead to a strain of COVID-19 that will resist the vaccines currently in use.

The report recommends requiring anyone landing in Israel to quarantine, even if they have recovered from coronavirus or received the vaccine.

“The mass vaccination program, which is happening at the same time as an active outbreak in Israel, may lead to evolutionary stress on the virus,” the report said, noting that “this situation may cause that mutations offering the virus a certain protection against immunity (whether from the vaccine or disease) will spread significantly among the population, if they appear.”

Journalists could face prison sentences of up to 14 years for stories that embarrass the Government under plans to reform the Official Secrets Act. 

Under a consultation run by Priti Patel‘s Home Office, which closes later this week, reporters who handle leaked documents would not have a defence if charged under new laws designed to clamp down on foreign agents.

The 1989 act is being updated to take into account the impact of the internet age, especially in the area of speedy data transfer.

Human rights organisations and the Law Commission, which drew up the proposals, say there should be a ‘public interest defence’ included to prevent the prosecution of journalists who receive leaked documents. 

But in a paper released for the consultation, the Home Office said such a move would ‘undermine our efforts to prevent damaging unauthorised disclosures, which would not be in the public interest’.

Critics suggested that if the rules were in place now it could have led to a prosecution of the journalists who revealed this month that Matt Hancock was breaking Covid rules by having an affair with his married aide, because it relied on leaked CCTV footage. 

The revelation prompted his resignation and the end of his marriage. But last week the Information Commissioner’s Office faced criticism for searching two homes as part of an investigation into how the material emerged and found its way onto the Sun’s front page.

Swalwell Spent Over $30K in Campaign Funds on Limos, Meals, Alcohol

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., spent more than $30,000 in campaign funds on limousine rides, high-end restaurants, luxury hotels and alcohol delivery in the second fiscal quarter, according to Federal Election Commission records reviewed by Fox News.

Additionally, more than $20,000 was spent at the Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, where his wife has been director of sales since February 2015.

The charges include:

  • $566 on ”food & beverage” through the alcohol delivery service Drizly.
  • $1,151 on ”refreshments” from seven trips to Capitol Hill Wine and Spirits.
  • Nearly $4,400 at two California wineries on the same day for ”catering” and ”refreshments.”
  • More than $7,000 at luxury restaurants in Washington, D.C.

Hundreds of dollars were also spent at 1-800-FLOWERS. The report comes nearly two weeks after Business Insider published photos of Swalwell and Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., posing shirtless while riding camels along the Persian Gulf in March 2020.

The 84,621.59 bill for that trip was picked up by the U.S.-Qatar Business Council, which describes itself as ”dedicated exclusively to enhancing the bilateral business relationship between the US and Qatar.”
