Elon Musk just dropped a bombshell that will put a real ownership stake in the hands of tens of millions of American kids.
On Monday, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO posted on X: “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.”
The announcement comes roughly four months after SpaceX went public on the Nasdaq under the ticker $SPCX in one of the largest IPOs in history.
Shares recently traded near $146, and with roughly 72–73 million children under 18 in the United States, the gift is valued in the neighborhood of $10.5 billion based on recent prices.
Musk did not spell out the exact mechanism, eligibility rules, or timeline beyond “next year,” but the scale is unmistakable. He is transferring ownership from his own holdings directly to the next generation.
This builds on earlier action from SpaceX itself. Earlier this year, SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband personally gifted one SpaceX share each to more than two million American children ages 11–17 in lower-income areas (with extra emphasis near their central Texas home) through the Trump Accounts program. That pledge was valued at roughly $325 million at the time.
