Saying there are 2 sexes is ‘very transphobic,’ Oregon State instructor says

A class instructor reported an Oregon State University student to the bias response team after he argued there are only two sexes in a final course project.

The incident report, obtained by The College Fix through a public records request, reveals that an instructor (or teaching assistant) flagged the male undergraduate student for holding views critical of gender theory.

The incident was among 20 bias reports filed at Oregon State at the start of the Fall 2025 semester.

While specific details, dates, and course titles were heavily redacted by university public records office the remaining narrative makes it clear that the student’s offense stemmed from disputing that gender is on a spectrum.

According to the report, the student was enrolled in an eight-week summer Canvas course within the university’s College of Education. As part of the course requirements, students were tasked with submitting an “action project” designed to identify a local issue, outline potential collaborators, project a timeline, and take an initial step toward a solution.

Despite acknowledging that the student had “consistently done well in the course, and not struggled with any of the other social justice content,” the instructor initiated formal administrative intervention over the final project, writing that the submission contained “extensive examples of transphobia.”

“Many of the claims he makes in his paper, and the sources he uses, are very transphobic,” the instructor wrote in the report, which categorized the perceived motive as involving “Gender identity, Gender expression, [and] Sex.”
