How lawfare destroyed liberalism; Democrats abandoned politics for legalism

In Henry VI, Part 2, a character named Dick the Butcher utters one of the more famous lines William Shakespeare wrote: “The first thing we do is, let’s kill all the lawyers.” To return to national power and get things done for the nation, Democrats need to adopt something of the spirit of Dick the Butcher: no, not literal murder of the lawyers who dominate the party — but a departure from the lawfare that has blinded Democrats to what politics is all about.

Perhaps the pace at which President Trump has opened his second term will put them on notice. Trump opened the week with an Office of Budget and Management guidance that would freeze some $3 trillion in federal grants across executive-branch agencies. He also offered federal employees a buyout, in keeping with his plan to downsize the bureaucracy. He used the threat of tariffs to pressure Colombia over deportation flights. He mused about relocating the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by the war in Gaza.

You may not agree with these moves — I certainly don’t — but on some level, you do have to admire the relentless focus of this new administration. The same can’t be said for its opponents. Tangled in legal arguments, mentalities, and procedures, Democrats have forgotten how to fight. Worse yet, they have forgotten what and whom they are fighting for.

It was that lawyerly frame of mind that compelled Democrats to expend an enormous amount of time and energy over the past decade trying to get Donald Trump through various avenues of lawfare: from the #Russiagate craziness to the first impeachment over his “beautiful” phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, from Jack Smith’s classified-documents probe to Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s hush-money case. And what do they have to show for it all? The satisfaction of calling Trump a “convicted felon” on cable news, and not much else.

Democrat Senator Triggered RFK Jr. Wants To Investigate Link Between SSRIs and Mass Shooters

Senator Tina Smith (D-Minn.) became upset that President Donald Trump’s Health and Human Services nominee Robert F. Kennedy Jr. once suggested antidepressant Big Pharma drugs may be connected to school shootings.

Citing 2023 and 2024 interviews featuring RFK during Wednesday’s Senate confirmation hearing, Smith read a quote where Kennedy once noted school children didn’t start shooting up schools until drugs such as Prozac were introduced to the masses.

She asked, “So, do you believe that antidepressants cause school shootings?”

Kennedy responded, “I don’t think anybody can answer that question, and I didn’t answer that question. I said it should be studied along with other potential culprits like social media…”

Senator Smith claimed, “The science shows that there is no link between school shootings and antidepressants, and in fact most school shooters were not even treated with antidepressants. And, of those that were, there was no evidence of association.”

“I don’t think you can say that Senator, because with HIPAA rules nobody knows,” RFK answered, referring to the fact that health privacy laws prevent the public from learning what medications school shooting suspects were prescribed.

The HHS nominee also pointed out SSRI drugs have suicidal and homicidal warnings on the labels.

California Democrat Proposes Legislation to Sue Oil Companies Over Wildfires That Had NOTHING to Do With Them

Scott Weiner, a Democratic State Senator in California, is introducing legislation that would allow people to sue oil companies over the wildfires that have ravaged the state in recent weeks.

This is typical Democrat political sleight of hand.

Oil companies had NOTHING to do with the destructive nature of these fires. If people want to sue someone, they should sue the Democrats who run the state and completely dropped the ball on being ready for these entirely predictable fires.

It’s amazing that this is even real.

From CBS News:

A newly proposed California state law would create a new pathway for victims of wildfires and insurance companies to sue oil companies over climate change.

Democratic State Senator Scott Weiner introduced the bill directly linking the wildfires to climate change caused by oil companies, as part of the statewide response to the Los Angeles-area wildfires.

“Absolutely catastrophic wildfires happening in the middle of winter,” Weiner said. “For insurance companies, they’re going to have to, if this bill passes, they’re going to have to take a very hard look at seeking compensation from the oil companies.”

Republican State Senator Roger Niello is opposed to the bill.

“It will be an invitation for lawsuits,” Niello said. “This furthers the narrative, the false narrative that this is all about climate change. It is of course much more complicated than that.”

This is Weiner. He is trying to place all of the blame for this on climate change and oil companies.

Health experts prep Dem lawmakers on anti-vaccine arguments ahead of RFK Jr’s confirmation hearings

A group of Democratic senators previewed several anti-vaccine arguments during a roundtable discussion, including a claim that vaccines cause autism, several days before Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s scheduled confirmation hearings later this week.

Even though Kennedy’s name was “not supposed” to come up during the hearing, according to at least one of the health experts present at the discussion, his nomination to be the next secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) was invoked frequently by lawmakers seeking answers about how to combat anti-vaccine claims and so-called “misinformation,” including arguments about vaccines that Kennedy has promoted in the past.

One claim the senators asked the public health experts at the roundtable about was whether vaccines cause autism, a claim Kennedy has discussed publicly in interviews.

“This is something that I hear a concern about quite a lot,” Sen. Angela Alsobrooks, D-Md., asked the panel. “What, if any information, can you give us to help us push back against that?”

Democrats Threaten “Righteous Litigation” Over Trump’s Shutdown Of DEI Offices

If a president has the power to unilaterally approve and fund DEI programs within the federal government, then any future president also has the power to unilaterally shut those DEI programs down.  This is how executive orders work, but Democrats think when it comes to Donald Trump legal restrictions apply.

Woke activist politicians are up in arms this week after Trump signed orders effectively shutting down all DEI related offices within the government and placing employees on paid leave pending inevitable pink slips.  The usual suspects including House Minority leader Hakeem Jeffries and Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar held a press conference to voice their outrage over the fast-paced elimination of DEI.

Jeffries arguments in particular were loaded with fallacies in an attempt to rewrite what Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives actually are.  According to the House Minority Leader, America has always embraced DEI.

First we have to clarify that DEI is not and never will be American.  It is a communistic policy which places the group over the individual.  Meaning, the merit of the individual is dismissed as irrelevant in favor of diversity hiring for the sake of appearances.  Inevitably, this leads to the discrimination of certain people (namely straight white men and conservatives), because DEI operates on a victimhood totem pole which places certain groups above others depending on their ethnic or sexual status.

There aren’t enough high level black, indigenous or trans aerospace engineers in the US to fill positions at agencies like NASA.  So, DEI officials hire unqualified or lesser qualified workers by default.

Furthermore, “equity” and “equality” are not the same thing, and Hakeem Jeffries knows this.

Equality is about equal treatment and equal opportunity.  Under equality, merit still applies.

Equity is about forcing equality of outcome and giving special treatment to people based on their perceived or fabricated social disadvantages.  Under equity there can be no such thing as merit because the most useless people will always rise to the top based on who can pretend to be the most “oppressed”.

Democrat Official Arrested on Child Sex Crime Charges.

The treasurer of the Orange County, Florida Democratic Party has been arrested on federal child sex crime charges. Matthew A. Inman, 39, from Orlando, was apprehended after allegedly distributing child sexual abuse material to an undercover officer, according to authorities. The Department of Justice (DOJ) states that he showed interest in boys as young as nine years old and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

According to the DOJ’s criminal complaint, Inman had allegedly saved numerous videos depicting child sexual abuse on his phone between August and October 2024. He reportedly traveled to Las Vegas in October last year, where he engaged in online communications with an undercover officer impersonating the father of a 9-year-old, expressing desires to meet the child for sexual purposes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) seized his electronic devices while executing a search warrant at his residence. Officials noted that Inman attempted to erase the incriminating material from his phone and hid in his attic during the raid.

Another Hoax Blows Up! Democrat Gov Pritzker, Fake News Media Falsely Claim ICE Agents Raided Chicago Elementary School – Here’s What Really Happened

Another day, another hoax.

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) falsely claimed that ICE agents visited a South Side school on Friday to smear the Trump Administration as it carried out immigration raids in Chicago this week.

It wasn’t ICE. Secret Service agents were investigating a threat at the school.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) spread the lie that ICE agents raided an elementary school in Chicago on Friday.

“After a week of Republicans sowing fear and chaos, the first reports of raids in Chicago are at an elementary school,” Pritzker said.

“Targeting children and separating families is cruel and un-American,” he said.

The Chicago Tribune spread the hoax as well.

Rep. Jamie Raskin Hires Psychologists to Help Democrats Cope With Trump’s Return — Aims to Help Improve ‘Emotion Regulation’

As Democrats are still reeling from their incredible defeat in the 2024 presidential election, Congressman Jamie Raskin of Maryland has hired shrinks to try and set things right.

According to Punchbowl News, Raskin hosted a retreat for Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee where they hosted Jim Coan, a University of Virginia professor of psychology.

Another speaker was Hal Movius, a consultant whose specializations include “negotiation,” “influence,” “emotion regulation,” “leadership” and “organizational development.”

The report states:

The purpose of the session, according to multiple attendees, was to counsel Democrats about how to approach conflict and effectively combat what Raskin described as “authoritarian styles of speech.”

Another attendee said Judiciary Democrats were also advised to avoid devolving into partisan mud-slinging — a more common hallmark of the House Oversight Committee, which Raskin previously led as the top Democrat.

“They’re social psychologists, and they were just talking about communication and authoritarian styles of speech in the Trump age,” Raskin told us when asked about the speakers.

“We were talking about basically communication styles during the Trump era.”

Raskin, a former constitutional law professor, hosted the summit weeks after he was chosen as the top Democrat serving on the House Judiciary Committee.

Mississippi Democrat Proposes ‘Contraception Begins at Erection Act’ — Would Criminalize Masturbating or ‘Discharge of Genetic Material’ Without Intent to Fertilize

A bill put forward by a Mississippi Democrat is essentially seeking to outlaw masturbation.

Democrat State Sen. Bradford Blackmon this week introduced the “Contraception Begins at Erection Act,” which would prevent men from masturbating or engaging in sexual activity when there is no “intent to fertilize an embryo.”

The legislation put forward this week proposes fines of $1,000 for a first offense, $5,000 for a second, and $10,000 for subsequent violations.

Blackmon, a first-term senator representing a district north of Jackson, is apparently seeking to hold men accountable for their role in women having abortions.

“All across the country, especially here in Mississippi, the vast majority of bills relating to contraception and/or abortion focus on the woman’s role when men are fifty percent of the equation,” he told local media affiliate WLBT.

He added that the bill, which stands no chance of passing, is more about bringing men into the “conversation” around abortions.

”This bill highlights that fact and brings the man’s role into the conversation,” he continued.

”People can get up in arms and call it absurd but I can’t say that bothers me.”

In another statement provided to Clarion Ledger, Bradmon expanded on his reasons for coming up with such a bizarre proposal.

Trump’s January 6 pardons cause Rep. Cleaver to live in fear

Newly-inaugurated President Donald Trump’s proclamation pardoning more than 1,500 defendants involved in the so-called “insurrection” of January 6, 2021, has elicited a statement from a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (and a former Kansas City mayor) Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) condemning Trump’s actions.

In the spirit of full disclosure, let me make it plain here that I am not a fan of Cleaver, who, as a Methodist pastor, also goes by “Reverend Cleaver.” I have written about him several times before in American Thinker, of which one example can be found here.

Cleaver’s statement about the pardons of those charged in the events of Jan. 6 reads as follows:

January 6, 2021, was one of the darkest days in American history. As the world looked on and Americans witnessed with their own eyes, President Trump incited an insurrection in an effort to illegally extend his hold on the presidency and prevent the peaceful transfer of power. As a result of the chaos and violence that ensued, more than 100 police officers were injured, several died of their injuries, and the U.S. Capitol building was desecrated, with blood, feces, and other bodily fluids smeared within the halls of Congress. As I reflect on the horrors of that day, it is deeply shocking, but not the least bit surprising.
