The family of convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony is promoting a new GiveSendGo fundraiser asking for $250,000 to pay for his appeal, after a Collin County jury gave him 35 years for killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.
Their first fundraising campaign already pulled in $633,908, which appeared to have been used to rent a massive house and purchase a new vehicle.
The new fundraiser, created by Trinicia Ricks with attorney Russell Wilson as recipient, has raised over $33,000.
Donations are supposed to sit in a Wilson trust account for filings, transcripts, investigators, and experts only.
The family, the page says, will not touch the money.
Anthony’s mother, Kayla Hayes, ran the first GiveSendGo for legal defense, a move, living costs, counseling, and security.
GiveSendGo took it down after the June conviction.
The Anthony family’s spokesman Dominique Alexander called questions about a car or a house “deliberate lies,” confirmed a safety relocation, and would not itemize what was left or what the family used.
