Doctor suspended over ivermectin importation, Medsafe threats and vaccine claims

A doctor who tried to import 2000 unapproved Covid-19 treatment tablets, threatened health officials, and sent alarmist vaccine claims to a media executive has been suspended from practice.

Timaru general practitioner Dr Tracy Anne Chandler was suspended for three months by the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal after it found her guilty of professional misconduct across nine allegations.

The Tribunal found Chandler committed malpractice and negligence during the Covid-19 pandemic between August 2021 and August 2022.

Her conduct included attempting to bulk-import 2000 tablets of unapproved ivermectin from India without specific patients in mind, while telling Medsafe she needed them for “an epidemic of patients with parasites unresponsive to usual treatments”.
