Last week, the United States was considering Ukraine’s request for long-range missiles that could strike more deeply into Russian territory. The Russian government made it clear that this would be viewed as a declaration of war and that it would respond with attacks on NATO countries, including the United States. Ritter explained that had the United States not backed down, World War III could have started.
